I stayed 5 nights in the hotel, mid December 2023. Issues:
1) booked a package hotel + surfing, the manager refused give me a surf lessons, which I payed for.
2) dirty sheets and even pillowcase with the poop of gecko;
3) terrible breakfast , I was informed about the closure of the break fast cafe one day before arrival;
4) cornice felt down almost to my head;
5) surf school wants to take money and lie about making video/ giving a reduction price. Agreed to have 2h lessons and had only 1h 15 mins including walking to the beach/ exercises in the hotel. Also asking clients out.

They want just to make money not giving any attention to the clients.

Horrible service / lying to get money from clients

LaNegra Surf Hotel is the perfect spot for your stay in Nosara. The rooms are impeccably clean and I slept very soundly each night on comfortable mattress. The staff at the hotel were super responsive and friendly always greeting me with a smile. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. Fresh fruit and fluffy croissants and the lattes are perfect! Finally this location cannot be beat - a quick walk through the woods and you are at the best break in Playa Guiones. I without a doubt, will be planning another trip to LaNegra!

Perfect stay from start to finish!

I did a week of surfing with Juan Carlos at La Negra and had an awesome time. He had a training plan for each day and I made a ton of progress throughout the week. We also had a day where he got someone to video so I could see my surfing and the areas that I needed to improve. I would definitely recommend doing a lesson or a week with him if you are in the area. He also showed me good breakfast spots and we had a couple meals together after a morning of surfing. Great guy!

Surfing with Juan Carlos

Great Surf School & the best location in town for access to the beach.

I booked La Negra for its location and its on site surf school. Neither disappointed. The hotel backs onto the forest through which you access the beach meaning a 2 minute barefoot walk from you room and you are on the sunning beach with one of best surf breaks in Costa Rica.

The room was spotless and the breakfasts spectacular. (The lack of five stars is because unfortunately, the noise and congestions from the major construction project opposite the hotel, undoubtedly detracted from the experience. But the project appears to be nearing completion, so I would expect this problem to disappear soon.)

The daily surf lessons from Juan Carlos were fantastic. His focus on nailing the foundations of surfing meant he had to 'un-teach' some of my bad habits, but was patient and encouraging throughout. His love of his craft is clear and infectious, and his relentless attention to detail had me riding the waves of my life by the end of the week! 

Great Surf School

Staying at Le Negra Surf Hotel turned out to be a lovely experience at a location that was just a short hike to the beach. Upon arrival, we learned that free breakfast would not be possible due to the adjacent restaurant that provides breakfast not being opened yet. Although we would have appreciated this being communicated by the Hotel prior, they offered us discounted surf lessons due to this inconvenience. This turned out to be well worth it. We were able to meet and take lessons from Juan Carlos at Le Negra Surf and had a wonderful time. He was a great teacher—very thoughtful, thorough and generous. My friend and I loved working with Juan Carlos and would recommend him and his surf lessons. We learned quite a bit in a short time while having so much fun!

Great Experience with Le Negra Surf School and Juan Carlos

We had reservations to stay for three nights, ended up only staying for two as they did not have our reservation that we had booked and fully paid for two months prior. I had even called and confirmed our reservation after booking. They ended up having a room available for us to stay in as the rest of Nosara was booked, but was not the same room we had booked, so decided to leave but to be fair I do believe it was a honest mix up and the staff all felt bad about it as it was our anniversary.  The manager was so sweet and made it up to us! The location of our room was a bit loud being next to Destiny Restaurant who starts around 5:00am each morning, it is pretty loud but the breakfast at this restaurant made it worth it, best food of our trip and drinks! The location of this hotel can't be beat, steps to the beach, we rented a board from the hotel which was great, pool was nice and rooms were clean. Thank you La Negra for being so accomodating

Great location, excellent staff

La Negra is an amazing hotel. It's a beautiful space super close to the beach. If you want to surf, this is a great place to stay since you just walk down a path to Giuones. They have a surf school, too, and surf boards to rent. They have a pool and great spots to sit around and relax on a hammock or comfy chairs. Breakfast at Destiny (downstairs) is soooo yummy. It's my second time staying at la Negra and I plan on staying here each time I visit Nosara!

Best hotel in Nosara!

Had an amazing time at la negra. Very clean rooms and excellent vibes everywhere! Destiny has the best breakfast in town. Had a great time surfing with Juanca and Marco - both excellent surf coaches! Highly recommend staying here and doing surf classes with Juanca and Marco 

Best surf spot in town

We stayed for 6 nights at la negra and it was great the room was spacious, beds were very comfy, A/C worked great and the place was immaculate.  The restaurant downstairs- Destiny Cafe, was Outstanding- the food was the freshest, and huge portions- lots of vegetarian and healthy choices. 

My wife and I both took surf instruction- 1 on 1, with great instructors- very easy to set up right at the hotel- board rental at the hotel. 

they even did laundry at no extra charge.

look at all the rooms online first- you can choose your room- ours did not have a hammock, (room 9) other rooms have hammock and private outdoor space

Great place  to stay by the beach, especially for surfers

I recently spent 4 nights at la negra with my husband and two boys (11 and 14) and cannot wait to return!  La negra is ideally located with just a 3 minute walk through the jungle to the beach and a 5 minute walk into town.   The accommodations are charming, safe and very clean, the people are warm and the food at the associated restaurant, Destiny, is amazing (breakfast included in your stay)!  
We took advantage of the surf lessons offered at La Negra Surf School with Juan Carlos 3 days in a row and everyone greatly improved.  Some learned good habits and some fixed bad ones:)  I have beginner and intermediate surfers and juan carlos brought the right boards and instructors for each level.  La negra will put you in touch with juan carlos directly via whatsapp so that you can discuss what you want from the lessons prior to your stay making the most of the 1.5 hour lesson time.  Juan carlos set my more advanced son up with an instructor that was able to take him to the outside and help him understand surfing strategy while juan carlos hung with my husband and younger son on the inside a bit longer to review the basics.  Everyone was surfing the outside the last day and looking good!  We also took advantage of the wellness offerings by Bharu.  He took us through Qigong, tai chi and meditation right at the studio located at the hotel.  I highly recommend including these classes in your la negra experience as he is very knowledgeable and the classes were fantastic!  The food at Destiny is fresh, healthy, creative and incredibly delicious.  We will for sure be returning to la negra the next chance we get!
