This hostel is the perfect place for a Caribbean stay at the top! it is very well located, halfway between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, not far from Cahuita, the hostel is served by buses. It is a warm place where you make nice meetings, with other roommates, never very many it creates a real friendliness, but also with the owners who are incredibly kind and generous. Mayo and Vida and their children are adorable, they will always be there to help you discover their culture, make you feel at home. The common space is made up of a kitchen, equipped with the necessary, the dining room, as well as a relaxing area like a small canals, so you can enjoy the beautiful beaches of the jungle and the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica, which you can enjoy in a total of 200 minutes.

Friendly and charming hostel, very well located

We saw the photos from vida sana hostel at booking.com and decided to stay two nights. Instead of giving us a room that we saw on the photos they gave us a place that was like a storage room under the roof with only one uncomfortable bed for 40$ a night without breakfast and one open window that couldn't be closed. We also couldn't lock the door (that was more like a wooden frame with a net) so our things of value weren't safe at any time. There was only one bathroom for all of the guests and the shower + tap were only dripping water and sometimes it didn't work at all. The shared kitchen equipment was in a very bad condition. In other countries you would pay a maximum of 10$ per night for a hostel like that. We talked with Maya (the owner) about our issue but she was showing no sign of understanding for our case. We had to pay the full price and she was not willing to offer us anything as an excuse.

Overpriced room

Affordable, charming and well-maintained. The common space is simple but offers everything needed for a pleasant stay. Very warm welcome. Maio and Maya were generous and available to answer my questions throughout my stay.

Charming place held by people of heart.

I stayed here for 2 months whilst volunteering in the area. 
For a very reasonable price I got a spacious private room and access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. Everything was clean and well maintained.
Maio and his family are very kind and helpful, always happy to help answer any questions and its really nice to be involved with such a kind and friendly family. 
Plus there was access to delicious bread from the bakery and the opportunity to rent a bike. 
It is about a 40 minute cycle/$10 taxi ride from Puerto Viejo so not ideal of you're looking to do a lot of partying or want to spend a lot of time in town. But its equidistant from beautiful punta uva and playa Chiquita and a short ride from the Jaguar rescue centre, ara project and manzanillo.
