Love staying at Amanda's place. Been there 3 separate times. She is super welcoming and will make you feel right at home. The cabinas are fully equipped with more than what you will need. Not to mention the ocean is right in front of the property. The best part of the reef to snorkel is right in front of the house as well. There are fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables growing at the property to use which is nice since I love to cook.

Tours in the area are great. Tino and Abel are both great jungle guides. The horseback riding tour with Raul on the beach was awesome. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed that.

If you are taking a shuttle back to San jose it's well worth booking the whitewater rafting trip. It's only $45 more and you get breakfast, the rafting trip and lunch then they will the you to san jose.

Manzanillio trip

Highly recommend! Lovely host, she was super helpful and friendly! Also managed to find us fresh lobsters to buy from the locals! Had a fab time, will definitely be back!Perfect position next to the beach, really good snorkelling! All in all fab!

Amazing trip!! With Sam the Sloth

Our second stay {23 days} at Casa Del Mar. The casita was very clean, very comfortable and well stocked. We spent early morning hours on the deck watching and listening to birds waiting for the sun to rise. The flowers and trees surrounding the casita are home to many small birds. We had a resident sloth for a few days right in front of the casita. Amanda's herb garden was even better than I remembered. 
 We had Amanda organize a few tours and transportation to & from San Jose for us. Janny pointed out a number of unique and interesting things on the drive to Manzanillo. A tour to the Indigenous community near Bri Bri was excellent. Our guide, Gloria, was extremely knowledgeable of the area, the people and very engaging. I really hit it off with the shaman at the community. 
In Manzanillo, some of the best time spent is with Tino, on a jungle tour. The man is a walking encyclopedia of plant, insects. animals and birds as well as being personable and entertaining. 
I spent a few days with Chun, fly fishing for tarpon near the Sixola River mouth. Tarpon are catch and release only, but we did sample both jacks and yellow tail. we were also able to purchase a couple of fresh lobster.
In front of the casita, there is a stretch of beach a bit over 4 kms long of gorgeous sand. we spent a great deal of time walking on the beach, walking in the jungle,  swimming and snorkling.

Best beach casita in Manzanillo

We spent our first 5 days with Amanda at Cas Del Mar, and really recommend the casitas, and Manzanillo. You couldn’t be closer to the beach, and the walking, down to the Park, or along to Punta Uva, was a great introduction to the Caribbean coast. Great food at Mister Cooks, a little Soda we went back to often. Amanda arranged a half day with ‘Tino, who guided us through the National Park, and was a fantastic host. The casitas are well fitted and comfortable, with a great kitchen and lots of space

Casa Del Mar is a wonderful place to stay, right on the beach in Manzanillo. There are just two cabins (casitas) which include two rooms plus a fully appointed kitchen.  Each has a view of the ocean through the pecan and palm trees.  We made our own breakfasts and lunches and chose to dine out every night for dinner.  The owner Amanda is Australian and was always nearby to help if needed.  She hooked us up with a master guide Tino who took us on a four hour walk through the Manzanillo wildlife preserve, where we spotted a variety of wildlife, including a bright yellow eyelash viper.  The beach can be quite busy during the day (especially weekends) but clears out quickly by 4 or 5 pm.  The town is very quiet in the evening.

I had a wonderful experience on the beach at ‘The Casas’! I took full advantage of the beautiful beach location. The accommodating and knowledgeable Amanda, at check in made my experience all the better as she’s lived locally for almost decade. Wonderful!

Exceptional Experience

This is the best place to stay in Manzanillo, its less than 200mts from the Refugio de Gandoca. Amanda, the host is great and always making sure you are confortable and ready to enjoy. The ocean is 30 seconds aways and you can see it while having lunch or working from the table on the front porch (my fave spot on the casita). I worked during one week and the wifi was great, me and my friends did not have any issue related to connectivity during our stay. The casitas are fully furnished, clean and cosy. They dont have a TV available in the casita, but trust me, you wont even miss it. I have stayed 5 times now, from 4 days to 2 weeks, and every time i bring a friend they instantly fall in love with this place.

Favorite spot in the world!

I am struggling to understand the high reviews. This is what we didnt like:

1. Not cozy. There are so many beds and shelves and absolutely no seating area in the cottage (with the exception of a bar -table and stools in the kitchen). One needs to seat ouside to relax and read at night, which would be all wonderful if not for the voracious mosquitoes.
 
2. Not sure how clean it is. All light switches - the only white thing in the cottages- look and feel very dirty. Even though there is a cleaning person coming regularly, and she does clean, it is an uncomfortable feeling to see the white switches so dirty. The rest is all dark color: bed sheets, towels, floor mats, shelves, hammocks. 

3. Uncomfortable mattresses and pillows that also smell musty and unclean. We all suffered sleeping on them. Hammocks outside are musty and have a dirty feeling.

4. Overwhelming host. At our arrival (jettlagged, tired from travelling) we were treated to a 30-minute " what not to do" monologue. Our host clearly knew what and how needs to be done. Some of it was not an appropriate way of communicating with the adults.  Every now and again we found our personal items reorganized to the way the host felt it correct. While we had nothing of value on this trip to worry about we found it very uncomfortable.

We also didn't particularly like the area, but that's  personal preference.

That said, the owner is quite helpful with the tips on local area. The nature is right outside of the doorsteps, which is also quite special.

Overall, if someone wants to stay for a night, is ok to go hostel-style, and perhaps is very young (and travelling in a large group needing to crarsh the night), this might be the right place. Not for us.

Surprising reviews

Perfectly furnished bungalows right directly at the water (sea) in Manzanillo on the southern tip of the Caribbean coast, in a pleasant little village that houses one of the most beautiful natural parks in Costa Rica, still today away from all major tourist routes - a real insider tip - only a few meters from the impressive nature park, from the bathing beach (with bay watchers) and from the small village center (with mini-supermarket, many small, cozy "sodas", bus stop - end station, means: easy to reach with local bus) removed.

And the hotel owner? Amanda, a friendly cheerful bright Australian, nature lover and professional diver.

A visit is worthwhile and let Amande connect you with the local nature park guide "Tino", he is great, full of nature, plant and animal, knowledge!

Huge Costa Rica Manzanillo/Lemon, Insider Tip

We arrived late in the evening after sunset, following an over-long drive in from SJO. Nonetheless, Amanda greeted us warmly and made sure we were settled in comfortably. Parking was on-site, and the casa (built in the local style), was well-equipped and larger than we had expected, having a full kitchen and three double beds. All was clean, neat, and well-cared for. That night, the rhythm of the waves lulled us to sleep. We awoke to a lovely morning, and immediately headed for the beach - all of a 30 second walk as it's just across the road. A further short walk takes you to the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. During our stay, Amanda was always helpful, and never obtrusive. We enjoyed her company and our conversations with her very much. She's extremely well-traveled, and has her finger on the pulse of the community and the area, generally. Her garden and herb garden are terrific - my wife spent over an hour talking food and herb plants. Me? I just enjoyed the guanabana Amanda gifted us, as it made an excellent smoothie! 
Our time here was peaceful and relaxing, as most of Manzanillo closes up early. Yet, it's just a short drive if you want a dose or two of Puerto Viejo's hubbub. We can't say enough good things about Casa Del Mar, and we recommend it without reservation.
