It was a terrible expierence, do not book this place.
I was locked in my room for hours, because the door was broke. Nobody came to let us out, and when we tried to open it they blamed us that we damaged the door. The shower was also disgusting and had a weird smell.

Do not book this place

We have actually had a good stay. However, in the end the host falsely accused us of smoking on his property via Airbnb without contacting us privately first. We are very disappointed by this disrespectful behavior.

Not recommendable 

Rooms in the hotel have been recently renovated. our room had a great air conditioning, the shower had plenty of hot water. and was very clean. The hotel is located across from the Jade museum and the national museum of Costa Rica. They serve a continental breakfast every morning consisting of coffee or tea, juice, fresh fruit, and toast with meat and cheese.

Clean quiet and friendly

I really liked this place.  While it was priced in the 'budget traveler' range, I found it to be much better than that.  It pains me to read the prior reviews as I had no bad experiences here.  That staff was wonderful and I was downright impressed with what I got for the price.  The location is perfect.  A few blocks (or less!) to several museums and the national theatre (a must see!).  And a block away from all of the walking streets and outdoor markets.  Close enough to EASILY walk, yet far enough to avoid the noise of those areas.  

It pains me to read some of the prior reviews of this place.  I really liked it here and I think you will too.

Love this place!

I stayed in Palm House Inn in December 2018 and it was great. It is a modest inn but the staff spoke English which is always a big bonus for someone like me who does not speak Spanish. They were so nice that even taught me some facts about flowers that I did not know about.

Great Sfafff!

The Palm House Inn is in Downtown San Jose Costa Rica. It is located a short walk away from museums and Parks and the shopping district. It is quiet and very. The friendly staff will go out of their way to help you. It is not an upscale fancy hotel. The front of the hotel is 3 floors tall with no elevator the back is 2 floors tall also no elevator. The front rooms do not have air conditioning the back rooms have air conditioning.
I found that the cool weather in this part of the country makes the rooms with or without air conditioning tolerable But the rooms in the back that have air conditioning are much more comfortable. We stay there for 4 days and were very satisfied with the room and the service, when we first booked the room we requested an air-conditioned room but upon arrival they showed us a non-air-conditioned room with a ceiling fan, we told them we would prefer an air-conditioned room after confirming our reservation they moved us to an air-conditioned room. Because there's only for air conditioned rooms if you prefer an air-conditioned room be sure to specify it in your reservation. I personally was comfortable with the ceiling fan, but because my partner was here for dental work we preferred air conditioning knowing she would be laid up in the room for a few days after the work was done.

I do not recommend this hotel!!!
Horrible,very few facilities, towels in very bad shape, breakfast industrial and disgusting! The worst of all,someone went through my bag when i was not here ( gift) and suspicion of theft for my friends! This hotel is a joke.
