Case Lima B&B is a hidden gem within the city of San Jose. The tranquil environment created here is second to none. Having breakfast with waterfall sounds in the background along with the tropical plants is serene. Nelson is a phenomenal host who went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience in Costa Rica. That's not coming from an inexperienced traveler. I have been traveling for over 20 years, 5 continents, and over 10 countries with multiple visits to many. This place exceeded all my expectations and I can see how this business is thriving and will only do better in the future. My mobility scooter was damaged by the airline while coming to Costa Rica and it was a big issue, to say the least. My wife and I tried to find tools and such on our own but had no luck. After talking to Nelson about it, he took it upon himself and proceeded to fix it during our breakfast no less. During our breakfast, of the best banana pancakes we have ever had in our lives, he succeeded with the scooter. The scooter was running and he did an amazing job of securing things to make sure it didn't happen again. It was never his problem and he would have been an incredible host without doing so, but he still went out of his way for us. He saved our trip in more ways than one. We will definitely stay again and even if they were full we would visit just to see him, the amazing lobby, and to have breakfast. I would recommend 10 out of 10 to anyone.

Best authentic experience for the cheapest price.

This was the worst experience of any hotel we've stayed in! We showed up in the evening when nearby restaurants were closed, so we ordered pizza at the hotel. It took an hour to get our food and it was terrible (all bread, hardly any cheese, etc) and expensive. 

We then went to our room (a family room) and were crawling into bed when my teenage daughter complained about there being a clump of someone else's hair in her bed. I also noticed other people's hair on all the other beds too. When we pulled the sheets down on the larger bed, there were bugs crawling and swarming in the sheets! Needless to say, my husband said "that's enough" and went to speak to the front desk attendant, who's name I think was Alex.

Alex went to show us into another family room and, as he was pulling down the covers in that room to check for bugs, I saw him picking hairs off one of those beds as well. Nope! So at 11:30 pm, we went scrambling for another place to stay. 

Alex was nice, but he had no power to give us a refund and told us we'd have to speak to the manager the next day (Nelson Ruiz). After going back & forth through What's App a few times, he told us he'd give us a refund for part of the charges, but he wasn't going to give us our money back for the taxes.  I felt this was unfair since he didn't deliver a clean room, but I was tired of dealing with it, so fine. He said the only way he'd give us the money was either in person (we weren't going to be back in San Jose) or through a Costa Rican financial app called mobile sinpe. He refused to do it any other way (Venmo, Paypal, credit card refund, Zelle, Wise, Payoneer were all offered). When I tried to get set up on that app, I realized it wouldn't connect with US banks or phone numbers. So, not only was he being extremely difficult, but he then started to "ghost" us. He stopped responding to our What's App messages and they would hang up on us every time we called, I'm guessing because they saw it was our phone prefix. 

We are now disputing this through the credit card company, but I would not recommend this place to anyone. I wish I could give it negative stars. 

BUGS & OTHER PEOPLE'S HAIR ON THE BEDS!!!

We have stayed at Casa Lima for years.  The location is great since it is walking distance to our family's house.  But this stay was not pleasant.  We stayed in 2 room family suite, which we have stayed in this room type before (but received a different room).  There were cobwebs everywhere throughout the 2 rooms.  I am talking large, draping cobwebs in all the corners, it was dirty.  These could have easily been removed with a broom.  The room did not feel clean and our youngest was not comfortable.

We had arrived late at night and had been communicating this to the hotel all along.  It didn't seem like they were ready for us, the owner/manager was grumpy and seemed irritated when we asked for some water.

The main 1st room had a double bed and a fold out couch.  The bed was comfortable, the couch was not.  There was a wardrobe to place your things.  The fridge did not work.  The adjacent room, had three twin beds, no windows.  There was nowhere to put anything, no closet, no wardrobe, not even space for a suitcase.  The adjoining door did not close unless you deadbolted it, not too comfy for a family with young kids.  The bathoom door in the twin room didn't close at all, it would slide open, and most definitely didn't lock.  The TV in that room didn't work either.  We did report that the fridge didn't work, but they didn't do anything about it.

The courtyard, as always, is amazing.  It is like a jungle in the middle of the city with a ton of plants, trees, flowers and colorful rocks.   There is a coi pond with a couple turtles and you can feed them if you ask for some food.  There is also a large cage with a bunch of birds, which adds to the ambiance.

The breakfast is simple, but good.  The servers are awesome.

I feel like the last 3 stays at this hotel have gone considerably downhill.  i also feel like the price was a lot higher than we paid in the past.  We will be looking for another go to hotel in the future.

What a disappointment...

This place was perfect for my purpose. I was visiting for conferences and for a single traveler or couple I’d recommend. Above average for the price. Kept clean and staff was very nice. Beautiful courtyard were I spent the days writing. Please give this little place your consideration if coming to Costa Rica. Very safe and homy feeling.

Nice little B&B

The hotel has a Great location in a safe area and it is within walking distance to stores. Super friendly, hard working staff. Room was very clean with nice bead. Clean restrooms.
The restaurant is good with some option including pizza!!  The breakfast was great!

Great option near Rhormoser/Pavas area.

I was very surprised to find such a quiet peaceful garden guest house in San Jose great for a layover especially with the family and if you're trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy San Jose area the rooms are very basic  not very clean as the bathrooms are moldy  and some of the rooms does not have a proper window the complimentary breakfast is very basic juice coffee and bread but if you are on a budget I guess it's okay for a quick stay over

Quiet garden guesthouse

This B&B was recommended by the dentist I came to Costa Rica to see. The host and staff were incredibly helpful arranging everything they could help with. The garden with small parrots and very friendly Koi fish is charming and my apartment very comfortable. I would love to come back!

Wonderful hosts!

We could not have chosen any better! If at first we booked it just for its position, already after the first night we realised we were in the perfect b&b place. Rooms are silent, nice, clean, with daily housecleaning and change of towels available. Breakfast is simple but great: every morning we were offered fresh fruit, always a different freshly made juice, bread butter and local fresh jams, and of course coffee (or also eggs for whom wanted to). Staff is extremely kind, professional and smiling, and makes you feel every moment at ease, like at your own place. Of note: the beautiful tropical garden in the middle of the court, so well kept and organised that you might feel like in the middle of a jungle just in those few squared metres. We found out that it is also included among the hotel where you can be picked up for daily trips (at least with the companies we chose). In conclusions: absolutely recommended! Should we be back, I'll for sure book it once again! 

BEST CHOICE EVER! 

Nelson is an excellent host. I had one of his small apartments for almost a month. It was very comfortable. It's a very safe neighborhood right near the US Embassy. It's also only 10 minutes from the center of town by Uber or bus. Really enjoyed my stay there and the hospitality

Excellent comfortable place

We tend to stay at Casa Lima in the beginning of our trip because it is close to the airport and family.

We had requested an early check in and was told it would be ready but it wasn't.  This was not a big deal.  They let us store our luggage, change into shorts and we walked around the neighborhood and went out to lunch while waiting.

Our room this time was a 2 bedroom apartment.  It was on the ground floor with a living room and 2 couches (one a fold out) a kitchenette and 2 bedrooms one with a full size bed and one with 2 twins. Each bedroom had a TV but the picture was pretty bad. There weren't any windows in the bedrooms and the apartment was pretty dark.  It worked for us but we would have preferred a 2nd floor adjoining room like we had our first stay.

The staff were friendly.  We love the garden, turtles and Koi.  The breakfast is simple but we always look forward to it.  We will be back but will most likely get a an adjoining room next time over the 2 bedroom apartment.
