Our group of 8 stayed here for 4 days. Super clean rooms, owner/staff are really helpful. Private setting near all Monteverde attractions, very reasonable price. The rainbows at sunrise and the view over the hills to the Golfo Nicoya at sunset are unparalled.

Amazing views

The Sunset Hotel is a basic, no frills hotel on the outskirts of Santa Elena.  We paid $73, which is a good value, but amenities are lacking. Rooms have nice floor tiling and woodwork on walls and ceilings, but the size of some rooms is very small.  Towels and bar soap are provided, but not shampoo or washcloths.  Bed sheets and towels are clean, but very worn.  The owner and staff are very friendly, and that in itself makes the stay memorable.  The view of the distant gulf and sunset are extraordinary.  Most guests sit out each evening to view the sunset. Breakfast is provided, and is typical for CR hotels, with fruit, eggs, toast, and beverages.  Credit cards cannot be processed on site, so be sure to prepay or have cash on hand to pay any balance.

The trip to Monteverde is really interesting with stunning views. I would suggest a 4x4 as the tarmac roads disappear and are replaced by loose stones and gravel, drive very slowly and carefully for those 25km. 
The hotel has stunning views from the veranda and a very friendly host. That I’m afraid is where the good news ends. 

The rooms are very small, the decor is very tired, the bed was too small, the linen and towels are too old, it is extremely dusty throughout, the rooms are noisy from the traffic, the bedside lamp was falling to pieces with woodworm, the mattress had seen much better days and there is neither aircon nor a fan. The breakfast consists of eggs with white bread and fruit, no local offering at all. 
However it is VERY cheap!

Great sunsets & very cheap. 

the place on top of the hill is beautiful. an amazing view and awesome place for sunsets.
the owner is very nice and friendly. he will answer all yoir questions and help you book tours. he also make a good breakfast.
the only down size was our room just next to the kitchen which is noisy if you want sleep in in the morning and the mattress of  that room at least need to be update.
overall it's a very nice place to go. you won't regret

beautiful place

The staff were really friendly. However, in the rooms the water quality and showers were weak. Also, the wifi only worked in certain rooms and the eating area. Breakfast was good, but the food was the same everyday. Overall, it was a good experience. We got to view the sunset over the ocean everyday.

Our visit to sunset hotel

Had a nice stay at the Sunset and the host Vitalis was very helpful and informative. He even helped me to fix a minor issue with my rental car. As well, the hotel is close to town and just down the road from the two activities I had picked out. And then there are those sunsets, beautiful.
