Rios Lodge has a beautiful location right on the Pacuare River. The waterfall pools are great! We also loved the food. The servings were generous and the meals were simple and delicious. Go in May; we were the only people there.

Our 3 day trip to the Rios Lodge (formerly Rios Tropicales Lodge) was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica.  The Class 4 rafting was exhilarating but always felt safe, and the lodge is lovely set amidst waterfalls.  We took the optional horseback ride to the village to have lunch with a family which was very special.  We also learned a great deal about the lodge's extensive conservation work and toured some of their reforested areas.  

Rios Lodge - Amazing 3 Days

A great overnight stay while rafting the Pucuare River. The beds were comfortable, the room clean. We had a great view of the river. The meals were delicious. There is a small bar. We only had wine, but they were prepared to make cocktails.  We especially enjoyed watching four varieties of hummingbirds flitting about the gardens from one of the several platforms that overlook the river. 

A Peaceful Rest along Pucuare

The lodge is in an incredible place, that can be reached only by the river. Rooms are essential, but clean and very comfortable and generous in size. Staff is professional, amazing and made us live an unprecedented experience. It was my first time ever rafting, so I was initially concerned, but I realIy suggest it, I would do it again and again. I will treasure this experience for many years to come.

Absolutely a MUST!!!

Besides is stunning location, the exhilarating ride down Class III rapids to get here, and the pure thrill of staying in the rainforest, the high point is the all male team of five guides/chefs/rafters who oversee your Rios Tropicales experience.

Yes, its isolated which is all part of lodge's endearing charm. You can choose to join the guides on their conducted forest walks, including bathing in rock pools, or do your own thing on the local trails. But the lodge team do provide an indepth insight which you might not other wise enjoy.

The daily 'happy hour' is a real hoot. Every meal was prepared with great care and highly enjoyable. The team do cater for food allergies but the options are limited. The well laid out lodge is a real wow. Basic rooms and cold showers, but the sound of the river, at night, made it all a wonderful experience.

This is great opportunity to spot sloths and very many of the array of colourful birds. On day 3 we all left and rafted out towards Siquirries down Class IV rapids in the safe hands of our very accumplished guides/rafters. A totally awesome ride along a stunning backdrop of river canyons and wild forest. The highlight was running though the rapids and gorge! (Picure are taken of your expereince [$20] but a water-proof is what you need.)

Can't recommend this place enough and the endearing Rios Topicales team. It was one of the highlights of our amazing Costa Rican experience.

It's your loss if you don't stop here. An amazing place.

Stayed here with my G adventures group. SO MUCH FUN! It was my most favourite thing to do and I also did canyoning, zip wiring, mountain biking and other stuff.The raft guys are also the chefs and work so hard to prepare varied, delicious meals. So impressed and stunning setting too.Go go go!!

Fantastic rafting and Fantastic guides/chefs. The food was outstanding and they even accommodated my food allergy by making me different food. The lodge was beautiful and really comfortable. We had so much fun and loved this part of the trip the most. Would 1000% recommend this if you are going to Costa Rica.

Best part of the whole trip!

We'd only flown in from UK the evening before so our rafting experience, or rather the stay at Rios Tropicales, was an immediate wind down.

We had to repack our bags at Turrialba, just needed clothes etc for 2 nights, whilst the rest of our holiday luggage was kept safely in storage.

Max was our guide throughout, also our cook, host and all round good guy! Georg was our support kayaker and took great photos too. 20usd for them all on a stick or by email at the end if you want them. 

The lodge location is a real wow and though our room was basic it had all we needed, except hot water, though it was so hot outside we didn't mind. In the mornings before breakfast we walked to neared waterfall for a dip instead! 

Great locally sourced home cooked food, eaten in an open sided kitchen/dining area overlooking the River. Great opportunity to spot sloths and birds, as well as wave at passing rafters. 

Max took us on two hikes, the second slow and long though we loved it. He is so passionate about birds especially and always carried his well thumbed guide books, we were privileged to spot a couple he'd not seen before! 

Day 3 we rafted out to Siquirries. A full day of exciting rapids and a stunning gorge too. A Stopped for home prepared lunch by all the crew.

Can't recommend Max and his crew highly enough, it was quite simply the highlight of our holiday 😊👌

Just the best start to our Costa Rican holiday

We started our honeymoon in Costa Rica by entering Tortuguero, where we spent two nights alone, with at least 15 more couples. After that, the group spread, as each couple had a type of trip contracted. Of all, we were the only ones who made the package called Aventura Tropical, something we will never regret. At first we were a little scared because we were the only ones who made this trip, as we were alone in the car with the driver and the guide, Christopher. After that, we took the group away, as each couple had a type of trip contracted. We were the only ones who made the package called Aventura Tropical, something we will never regret offering. After that, we began our first experience with the river, something we forgot about. In addition to enjoying the river, we were more than a typical of Costa Rica, and during our first trip to the forest, we were able to get acquainted with a few of the best things we could do in the past, and we were able to get acquainted with a few of the best things we could do in the past.

Fantastic rafting experience! We rafted 45min to Rios Tropical Lodge after good instructions from our guide. To sleep at the lodge you can bring only the most important stuff with you, which will be packed to dry bags of the Rios Tropical Guides. After arrival we were surprised with a very good snack and drinks. 
Our room was a shock, clean bathroom but dirty sheets on the bed. Next day after waiting for one group to leave (because they needed help from our guide) we started a very beautiful and exciting 2 hours walk trough the jungle with our guide, but usually we prefer starting a walk sooner than at 11 am at such temperatures. The guides did their best to make us fell comfortable and feel safe again. Next day packing our staff at 10 am into dry bags and again waiting for ca. 2h for another group to come and raft together. It was a very cool 2h hours rafting tour to siquirres!
The guides we met were all speaking spanish and english, very nice people and they cook all the meals which have been very tasty!
The lodge is after several months of shutdown not the same shining star and needs a decent cleaning and reapire closets.
All in all we would definitely recommed the rafting. But we wouldn't plan a stay at the lodge again because the jungle walk is not worth the 2 nights at the lodge. We needed 3 days for a 1 day programm (activities: 3 hours rafting, 2 hours walking). Because of the not so welcoming facilities and don't forget the loud river we weren't able to chill in the meantime, but it felt more like just waiting to leave again.
Important to know for guests: no connection, no wifi.
