This place needs an objective summary of the pros and cons on staying:

The Good:
- The guest house owner is a kind lady and though her English is limited, she was always friendly and tried to help us when she could (including meeting us outside at 3am to let us in when our bus was delayed. 

- The pool is great and very clean 

- We found the location to be good. Only a short taxi ride to the old town (3-4 Euros max in an Uber) and had some nice bars and restaurants close by. There's also a big supermarket right across the road. 

- Good air con. 

The not so good:
- The rooms are very dated and ours was a bit cluttered. Some of the owner's own clothes were hanging in the cupboards.

- It was a bit dusty 

Compared to other hotels and hostel prices that we considered for the trip, the price here was significantly cheaper. Don't go expecting the Ritz but it was definitely pleasant enough for our stay.

Nice Enough

I was very happy with my stay here the hosts were very kind and even made my friend and I a lovely lunch one of the days we had a fan and air con I really enjoyed the pool and i highly reccomend as the location is very good :))

Kusalo guesthouse 

My boyfriend and I arrived late this afternoon and only stayed approximately two hours until we could find other accommodation. For starters we couldn’t find the place and when we called the hosts to ask for help they speak little English so could not help us find them, they just told us to park in the post office,this is a small thing which happens in many places so can be overlooked but just be aware. When we eventually arrived we found ourselves inside a very cluttered house. The room had no air conditioning, just a fan, it was very dusty, and the cupboards contained the owners belongings. Our request to change rooms was declined.We spoke to another guest to find out their thoughts about the place and they too were disappointed to find out what they had booked was not what they were given. The bathroom was not clean. Overall we left as we wanted our last two nights in Croatia to be comfortable. Hopefully the hosts can make some improvements as they were apologetic. 

Disappointing, left early. 

I would not recommend this location. It is more of a hostel than a hotel. The rooms are small and ok - nothing great. They do have kitchen amenities. There is no maid service. The rooms center around a small pool. The rooms are part of a larger house where the owner lives albeit I never met the owner and was given the key by the maid. There is little privacy. You cannot shower in your room without everyone knowing. There are allegedly rules of conduct like quiet hours but these are not enforced. The owner seems to rent out single rooms to large groups of people who can take over the place. If you are solo traveller looking for peace and quiet like an afternoon nap at 6pm do not necessarily expect it. Moreover, if the group is a late night party group it is likely you will be woken depending on their maturity and courtesy. This is particularly important if you plan on getting up early. I would not recommend this place to the older solo traveller looking for tranquility. It seems the ownership is not concerned about what type of clientele they are trying to cultivate. It has more of a hostel feeling than an apartment feeling. The only reason I am here is because my travel agent booked me here and pre-payed. I would have left if I could. I spent three nights there. Be warned 

Far from town and no privacy

When we arrived to the guesthouse they were badly prepared. We had booked a 2 beds room with shared bedroom but got a three bed with your own bathroom. They said ”special for you” but it was so dirty and gross so I felt sick just being in the room. They said we was gonna change room the day after.

In the first room all the walls were broken and there was crumbles on the table were the kittle was. The minifridge was dirty and there was mold in it and it smelled so bad!!

The second room was better but not good. Atleast it was clean. But there was no room to put away your suitcase and you werent aloud to have swimsuits to dry in the room and outside there were nowhere to hang them either. 

The shared bathroom you shared with the family who owns the place it was also dirty but not as bad as the first one. 

Even the glasses and pans and mugs was dirty in the shared kitchen

The midaged couple who worked there was really nice. They helped us with directions on the map and brewed croatia coffee every morning. 

If the place would have been clean it would have been a better stay for us. 

And I would NOT recomend this guesthouse

Dirty Guesthouse. 

Would definitely recommend this place for your Dubrovnik base. Great location 10 minute bus ride from the old town and around 30 minutes from the airport.

Hosts are diamonds. We stayed in Room 3 which was fine with all mod cons but it looked like Room 1 is the crème de la crème. Two singles pushed together in Room 3 wasn't ideal. Outdoor pool was superb after a hot day, all to ourselves.

All around lovely hosts,even offering a very nice cup of coffee and cake before our trip home!

Cosy little guest house in good location

I stayed at the Kusalo Guesthouse in August this year with a friend.  We had a twin room with private terrace. The room was very comfortable and clean.  The owners were very friendly and welcoming.  Tea and coffee were provided whenever you wanted which was a nice touch.  The pool is the real selling point for this guesthouse and is immaculately clean. 
The air con in the room was very welcome in the incredibly hot August week that we chose to stay. 
In terms of location, it is between the old town and the large ferry port which was ideal for us.  The bus ride to the old town was about 4mins.  There is a very good supermarket just below the guesthouse and a bakery beside it.
You access the guesthouse up a steel hill and then many steps, so may be a problem for people with mobility problems.  
I would stay here again without hesitation. You'd be made very welcome I'm sure.

Wonderfully friendly guesthouse with a great pool

The hosts of this hotel are very kind and welcoming, however, the stay didn't meet our expectations. The problem was mostly my fault since I booked the two single beds in a room without air conditioning. This room also has a shared bathroom down the hall with the hosts. My husband and I are budget travelers, yet, this room was extremely hot, even with the help of one fan. There was one window, but no screen on it, so if you wanted to attempt to get fresh air, you'd also get bugs. Additionally, the room was right next to a street light. We were very uncomfortable in this room and it's a good comparison to a hostel (all it could really fit was two twin beds). The hotel offers other rooms, which seem to offer AC and be much more comfortable. Perhaps with a different room we would have had a better stay. We had originally booked a two night stay, however, after the first night we had to move to a different hotel. I would recommend checking closely which room you booked and don't book the two single bed room. I would have chosen a true hostel over this room.

Kind hosts, yet the room didn't need our expectations

Stayed there one night on a bike trip. Frendly and easy going owners with ptovision of 100% privacy. Nice privet pool and good location neer city centre. Got a big room with tarace. Recomand the value for money

Good value for money

Our stay here was OK! The pool environment was nice and the rooms are by a decent standard. The owner was very kind and offered us beverages every day. A good place to stay if you’re looking for a cheaper option.
