First, the location is perfect. Pretty much on the wall of the Diocletian's Palace, with a busy square full of restaurants just outside. (There's also the best ice-cream I've ever had downstairs.) Second, our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Third, the service was friendly and very helpful - we are even offered drinks on arrival (I had a cold Croatian beer). Fourth, there is a fridge in reception you can use, plus tea and coffee making facilities. All very handy. There are only three or four rooms, so there isn't someone there for you 24/7, but you can phone if you have any enquiries. (They were very helpful making calls to the airport for me after one of our bags didn't arrive.) The apartments are on the third floor, and on arrival you may be disoriented when you open the door to number 6 to be faced with a stairwell and the bins from the food place next door (I certainly was). If you've given them advance warning of your time of arrival, just go up the stairs and they'll be waiting for you with that cold beer.

Stayed in a studio apartment for 2 nights. Fabulous location with balcony overlooking main areas of the palace. Spotlessly clean. Host Nivea welcomed us with a cold beer which was much appreciated after dragging our bags up 3 floors of a spiral staircase . All worth it was the place was fantastic and good value for the fantastic location in the palace. Highly recommend

Great value

I stayed for just one night but was certainly made to feel welcome at this superbly situated property. 

Upon arrival, I was greeted with grapes, sweets and my choice of cold drink (I can tell you that the frosty beer went down really well after a 5 hour bus ride that morning).

There are a number of different room types available and I was in an apartment, suited for up to 4 guests. I can't speak for how the apartment measures up to other rooms and suites, but this was clean and bright with good facilities. The washing machine was a little dated, but it did work just fine and was very much appreciated from one who had been backpacking for the week prior.

As others have mentioned, it's not exactly clearly signposted, but Google Maps actually points you quite precisely to the property if you search for "Ul. Marka Marulića 6, Split". Once in the vicinity, look for the blue and white number sign over the door, go in and turn right, then follow the spiral stairs to the top. The TripAdvisor map is quite accurate, but searching for the address currently listed here will not help you.

The location is absolutely brilliant, tucked into the walls of the palace complex. It's a minute walking to the waterfront Riva, a minute to the Peristil and Cathedral, and surrounded by innumerable restaurants and cafes. If you don't mind walking up a couple of flights of spiral stairs, then I would certainly recommend this as a base from which to explore the very heart of Split's palatial core.

A great place from which to explore Split's palatial core

Stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of May. I agree it can be a little hard to find but if you find the ice cream place your are there. A true little gem staying within he palace walls, makes you realise why we all love to travel. You do feel like you are staying somewhere unique, not just another hotel/apartment. The rooms are just the right size with everything you need for a short break. We had great fun waving to everyone from our shared balcony, as it I located by one of the popular photo stops. Even though it was in the centre of town, you are not troubled by noise at all. Amazing value and well worth it - yes I would stay again. Before I finish it is worth pointing out hat there are no lifts and the stairs are quite narrow. The friendly greeting at the top is well worth it.

A very special stay

Quite quirky place, on top of a restaurant and wine bar.  It was a little hard to find as there is no name on the building that we could see.  Staff helpful on arrival.  Breakfast different with set meals but OK.  Our first morning our waitress was barely interested and we had to ask for everything, at least twice.  Salt (never did get pepper), butter over and over, water etc.  Then we felt very rushed and the plates were almost thrown at us.  Next morning (Tues) different girl, totally different experience.  Had a nice lunch in the restaurant. Would recommend for location, very cool being right in the centre of things, not far from where the cruises come in so could walk from our boat.  Great atmosphere.

Great location within the Palace walls

Very nice apartment, close to everything. Friendly and helpful staff, no lift but that's the price for sleeping in such a historic place. Parking is available at walking distance. There were some welcome fresh fruits, nice surprise! Recommended for a few days in Split.

Nice location

It was hard to find the place because it is in the Diocletian Palace boundary. She came down to help me with my luggage and it is on the top floor. She was so gracious enough to give me something to drink, cookies and watermelon. She handed me a lot of keys from the front to the back which was so very helpful since you have easy access to your studio apartment. You have your own chair and table by the famous archway of the palace. You can just watch throngs of people by the square taking photos. I enjoyed it very much.
