We had flown to Cuba and arrived at the Starfish Montehabana (where our booking was made for) the security then told our transfer to take us to a different hotel around the corner (Hotel Memories Miramar). No one had informed us that the Starfish Montehabana was not in operation, no one cancelled our booking.

Hotel Memories Miramar had our booking information (as I believe the hotels are linked in some way) however they made us pay again! We showed them evidence that we had already paid but they still made us pay again as they say the information was not transferred from Starfish Montehabana to their system. We tried to not let this ruin our trip and had nowhere else to stay, so made the 2nd payment thinking that it would all be resolved through the bank and hotels.

The receptionist firstly charged my card £333,358,22 instead of £333.. after much disagreement, her colleague charged the correct amount.

The manager was very unprofessional during the trip. 

We requested multiple times to be sent an email from the hotel that we could provide to our bank on return home to explain the situation, but this was never provided.

Now Starfish Montehabana will not refund our money despite the hotel being closed down (we took images but won’t share here to not confuse anyone looking through all images and confusing the two hotels). Memories Miramar are no help in the matter. If someone could please provide a direct email for Memories Miramar that would be really helpful.

I have no idea what type of system Starfish and Memories are running, but I do hope that I get my money back as I paid twice for one stay, but I am not hopeful.

General review of Memories Miramar

Overall pleasant stay because we try to make the most of anywhere that we visit. There are fairly local restaurants by a pebble beach, and a supermarket. We went into the Havana Downtown which was great, some wonderful locals. It’s a good idea to support the locals where you can.

Swimming pool was very unkempt. The water was visibly unclean. I could see that there was a staff member trying to clean the water but I reckon they need more help.

The hotel room was pleasant and spacious.

The card machines at reception and bar often do not work. The staff did accept cash instead, so take both I’d suggest.

Wi-Fi is temporamental most of the time in the communal areas and especially in the room.

Bar staff, gym staff, dinner staff and shop staff are welcoming and pleasant.

The play on the tennis court was great fun!

There was a good selection of food, including meats and vegetables. The non-alcohol and alcohol drinks are very diluted. 

If you are open minded and can make the most out of a bad situation then you’ll be OK. Life is too short, we definitely made sure to have a great time in Cuba regardless.

I have been coming to Cuba for work for nearly 20 years  -  me or my staff usually come 2-4 time per year.

We have a complete understanding of the challenges that Cuba faces vs other destinations.

The time I have spent at your hotel this week has been my most disappointing trip of the past number of years.

The issues I have are as follows:

1. Lack of English or french speaking staff. the front reception staff are fairly capable to communicate, BUT the Bar and Buffet staff have essentially no english at all  -  I struggled to get basic service and when I did get served I struggled to get the bill for payment. Considering 40% of the total tourism that comes to Cuba annually are Canadian , perhaps some more English or French among the staff would better serve you guests.

2. The room appeared to be clean but the strong lingering odor of perspiration or mold (?) would not leave the room even with my efforts to open the window and air the room out over many days.

3. the air condition was quite loud in my room so that it had to be turned off to sleep

4. During my stay I had to get 4 new room cards. I was told the reason was simply ‘ Complicated’ -  and simply get a new room key daily

5. During Hurricane Rapheal which passed 55 km from Havana, there seemed to be confusion and no preplanning. Water was coming in from various entrances ( which I assume has happened during previous storms and should have been expected) -  but nothing was done to clean that up promptly or barricade the area to ensure safety.

6. The 24 hr lounge was closed with no notice and no explanation at the time. 

7. Then 30 minutes prior to the Buffet was to open for dinner we were informed it would NOT open , and I believe we only were told that because we asked . There was no notices/instruction posted. Other guests continued to try to go to dinner for the next hr , having to then go to reception to be informed it will be closed.

6. After the Storm had passed the island and was heading away to the west at 7:30 PM the hotel staff insisted we go to our rooms for 'safety reasons'  -  which was absurd as the news was informing us the the rain and wind would subside quickly that evening.

The common problem of all the items above stems from the staff and management not not being able to, or not willing to, communicate effectively.

I hope this review will allow you to put improvements in place so future guests can have a better experience.

Staff needs training and better management

We had a great time. The service was very kind and helpful and the resturant had great varity. I loved the pool and enjoyed the well-equiped GYM. I'm looking foward for coming back next year.  We also loved the rooms. The beds were very comfortable and beautifully decorated.

With my wife we went in September for a couple of days and we loved it!!! All very clean and organized as well as delicious food. Very close to many attractions. The attention was fantastic, everyone was very friendly, we would certainly return to my wife. Recommended

I like the Hoel minamar the people here they hospitality if need something hung ask they are help as old friend  so if god will are to travel again memories minamar hotel thank u but I’m mistake my package I got only breakfast  Lunch dinner  out side but it hard for us stranger

A nice trip

We stayed here 2 nights on a Tui Cuba Experience Tour, not all the lifts worked, on levet 3 all windows dirty, landing carpets worn and stained ,evidence of water damage. Our room hadn't been prepared, dirty windows and sand on the floor, bed uncomfortable.
The only meal we eat was breakfast where there was plenty of selection. 

Dirty, sad and disappointing. 

Stayed in this hotel for two nights on a TUI Cuba experience tour. We arrived three hours late tired, hungry and exhausted due to a medical emergency on the flight.  The hotel had not made provision for us arriving late and the dinner included was not provided, after much discussion from tour rep we was given a light snack. The room was very tired and neglected sand all over the floor and visible mould damage and smell. The bed was uncomfortable and required replacing. The corridors had worn and stained dirty carpets unable to see out of windows as too dirty. 
Plenty of variety to eat at breakfast. Pool area was dirty and neglected so did not fancy going for a swim. 
I would not recommend this hotel and have complained to TUI who should be ashamed at putting us there.

Disappointed on so many levels

I’m so excited to visit this hotel, it’s amazing and the breakfast is the best.
I’m with my family and we’re passing a really beautiful days in Memories Miramar hotel.
I really recommend this place to stay because everyone it’s so lovely and friendly.

Beautiful experience

I like the breakfast and the shops with havana club.  You guys have very beautiful fountains and nice pools. I was waiting n the beginning for my pillows but now it's okay and the room service is quality. When I dont have to remind them to come.
