The hotel is extremely dated. It needs a major upgrade. The room was small and basic. Large bed with side tables, table & 2 chairs and a tv. No amenities like mini-fridge, iron, tea station, wardrobe etc. Noisy AC! The bathroom again was old school with shower curtains. They did have hot water in the shower but not in the sink. And no counter space in the bathroom. No blackout curtains in rooms and automatic lights right outside the windows meant the room was still bright at night time making it difficult to sleep. The pillows were also very uncomfortable either too soft or way too firm making our necks hurt.

The one amenity in the room (the TV) did not work for our entire 5-day stay which we promptly informed the staff on day 1. They then had to inform the manager (who was not present). There was no urgency by the hotel manager to have the problem resolved as we checked in on Friday and were told that the technician would come on Monday evening! We checked out Tuesday and the problem was still not rectified. 

The other staff (trainees) seemed unable to make any decisions without the manager (who we only saw on the last day of our stay).

Breakfast was also started really late at 9am which would not do. Rebecca who started work at 7am would assist us by making breakfast for us before the kitchen opened at 9am so that we could head out to our tours. She also helped us by calling around to find labs to do an antigen test to return home.

The staff need better housekeeping skills/ training as the beds were not made properly (still rumpled) and covers were not folded. No comforters on the bed, only a thin sheet. There was trash (empty snack packs & bottles, cans etc.)  left on the table that they did not remove. 

On evenings Thais was also as helpful as she could be but still not a lot that she could do but very pleasant. 

The location of the hotel is excellent. Right in the center of the capital with stores for shopping, restaurants and sites to see all in walking distance and the bus stop is near by. 

If you are looking for just a place to sleep and somewhere with easy access to the town and don't care too much about comfort then this is a perfect option for you as its affordable. Otherwise, I would find somewhere else with more comfort. 

One positive was good strong wifi throughout the hotel!

Very basic hotel

We booked the hotel in a TUI-package for a very cheap price. We expected the least and were more than surprised to get here. First of all, we're both rather hostel-experienced so we didn't expect any luxury or too much comfort. But we were really happy with the kig sized bed and the spacious room. The room is not fancy or anything above average but still quite comfortable. The bathroom is lacking space to put your things, shelves or anything alike. But it suits your everyday needs.
It is very conveniently located in the heart of Punda and in walking distance to all the restaurants and shops.
The staff was really friendly and helpful, always in a good mood and up for a little chat in passing.

So if you don't expect a fancy room with room service and are easily satisfied with a basic room and basic amenities this is the place to be!

We were surprised by the hotel and the staff

Checking in was fast and the hotel staff are friendly. The appearance of the hotel can definitely use a face lift as it is somewhat depressing on first impression. The rooms are small but comfortable but it is fair for the price charged. The bathroom takes some getting used to as it is cramped and very dated in appearance. In my room, the hot water was not functioning which was very inconvenient. The location is excellent as it is near lots of restaurants and stores for shopping for clothes, jewelry etc. If you are looking for a budget hotel and a room mainly to sleep, this hotel would suffice.

Convenient location and fair price

Academy hotel is reasonably priced accommodation in Punda area of Willemstad.   It is unique in that it is a training hotel for hospitality students.  The hotel is located in a historical building with fine flooring.   The staff we students who did a good job in the reception and housekeeping.  Hotel and area around is pretty safe.   The bed is comfortable and I had a large King room.   The rates are pretty reasonable compared to other hotels in Willemstad.   The location is wonderful, it is close to all the attractions in Punda and Otrobanda area.  A bus station is located within a few blocks from the hotel, and it is an easy and very cheap access to the airport, all the popular beaches and maybe other touristy places in Curacao.  Why pay very expensive fares for taxis or rent a car, when the bus is pretty convenient.   Around the hotel are many good local and chain restaurants and bars.  The hotel is secure through the night.  Check on the reception as there did not seem to be a reception person late at night, only a security guard.   The wifi is only available in public areas of the hotel and not in the rooms.   A minor inconvenience.

Good Location, Easy Access from airport

We ended up at the Academy Hotel after our flight was cancelled.  We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights! The staff here is made up of young people learning skills on how to work in the hotel business. It was very interesting! 
The woman (don’t remember her name) who runs the hotel was very accommodating and helpful! Thank you to her for making our stay pleasant!
The hotel is located in a good spot in Willemstad.  It is in walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the floating bridge.


Academy Hotel

The history of the hotel goes back to the 19th century. The hotel maintains the atmosphere of a colonial hotel. It is now a training centre for students who will become receptionists, waiters etc. All trainees are very friendly and always good humoured. One must take into consideration that they are learning and forgive the minor mistakes. The rooms are small and there is no hot water (which is not a problem in the local climate). Breakfast is served and the selection is modest. The strong point is the location, next to Mikve-Israel-Emanuel Synagogue (the major attraction of Willemstad) and close to all local sights ( all within a 10 minute walk). There are many restaurants and cafes nearby (best on Wilhelminaplein). Another advantage is the low price, a bargain by Caribbean standards.
