Amazing value in this fresh (if basic) hostel. No TV in the room was a plus because it meant I "had to" spend time in the lively bar ;D The delightful receptionist and barkeeper Ivy was run off her feet but was always ready with an awesome Czech beer and a smile. I hope I'll be back!

Fantastic staff and value, both the hostel and the bar!

We spent one night in this hostel. There is a bar on the ground floor so you would expect some noise, but it was Tuesday so we thought it would not be that bad. Well it was. People were smoking outside and then leaving the bar around 1a.m. and the shouting and noise kept us awake. It was really unfomfortable although we were in the attic room and we closed our window. The room was clean and OK, but we didn't get much sleep there and it influenced the following day.

Pretty loud place at night

We passed by because we thought this is a nice cocktail bar. Surprise, it is not! The bartender ignored us for about 15 minutes and did not even care to say hello or bye as we left. There are much nicer places in this city!

Ignorant staff

The hostel is centrally located - about ten minutes' walk from the train and bus stations, and five minutes from the main square.

We had two double rooms on the top floor, and both were large, clean and light, with large en-suite shower and toilet.  The shower was a good size, now always a feature in hostels. The double beds in both rooms were big. The bed in one room was low - we slept about a foot (30cm) above the floor, which may not appeal to everybody,  though we were happy enough.

Breakfast was not available, though the kitchen/dining area was large, clean and well-equipped.  There were several shops very close by, so it was no problem to cook our own meals. There was a small balcony for smokers.

The Cuba Bar on the ground floor was a pleasant place ro spend an hour or two, especially if you like rum - they have about a hundred different rums!

The staff were friendly and helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and will definitely say there on our next visit to the town.

Excellent hostel

The place was quite good to stay for a night or too, everything was clean enough and pretty comfortable. The only trouble that we have was the noise from the common kitchen but you should account to things like that staying in hostel.

Fine place to sleep not far from center

Firstly, this hostel is very easy to find, less than 100m from the main shopping street and in definite walking distance from the train and bus stations. Staff were brief in their introduction and left me to orientate myself, and with whom I had minimal interaction with during my stay. The 6-bed dorm is light and spacious. Comfortable bunk beds and towel provided at no extra charge. Kitchen and bathroom facilities were clean and contained all necessary features, including a washing machine to do one's own laundry. 

Unfortunately my stay was tarnished by two aspects. The first being my fellow dorm mates; one guy liked to rotate beds several times a night including my own, another who seemed to spend the whole day smoking and masturbating had terrible personal hygiene and spread his stench to the communal areas and corridors. I appreciate there is little hostel can (and should) actually do regarding the calibre of guests who pay to stay, especially relating to this particular issue. Perhaps recognise the issue during the cleaning round and ensure areas are well ventilated?

The other issue that impacted on my stay, which the hostel could've done more about was the level of noise throughout the night. The hostel is above a lively bar, therefore I was willing to accept there would be some noise from below. I was not, however expecting the noise from inebriated patrons of the bar to continue to beyond 6.00am, well after closing time. I actually observed them happily drinking away as I walked past to catch my 7.00am train. If the establishment must insist on having a 'lock-in' after it has closed, perhaps it would be courteous to ask those involved to keep noise levels to a minimum for the sake of other service users?
