I booked this place for my husband and here is what he has written about it:  

"The Hotel Modrá Hvězda, situated right on the main square of Dobřany, was a welcoming place. 

In truth, in such a rural location, there was not much English spoken, but the manageress and the barmaid both had patience with my somewhat hesitant Czech and I was soon checked in and shown to my simple, but spotlessly presented room. The number of rooms was surprisingly large and, where I was staying was actually above the building next door. Admittedly, it was out of season, but I thought that what I got represented excellent value for money and I had a beautiful view of the illuminated town square from my window. 

The downstairs was both a bar and a restaurant and, for once, I half-regretted having had a meal before I set off because all the food looked delicious. The tables were all crowded and the plates were going back empty! 

As there is a brewery on the premises, there was a large selection of beers available. Some of these were VERY strong. I tried the Dobřanská Hvězda 12 degree beer and it was excellent. I slept well in my comfortable bed which had a point winning firm pillow.  

Because I had to leave quite early, the manageress started breakfast half an hour early, so I could have some before I left. It was a simple, but filling combination of the usual “continental”, nicely presented and tasty. I was also provided with properly boiling water for my tea bag, which always earns a bonus point with me. It was a nice little place and I already know where I will be staying next year!"

Welcoming and comfortable

I tried two beers, which weren't bad, and bramboraky, which wasn't bad, the rooms are normal, the maid Edita is very sympathetic.

It's a nice place.

And so, Dobrzany... This township met us early in the morning, perhaps with the colour of the building's empty central square and the welcoming open door of the Modrá Hvězda. As our guide told us, this miniature, which opened in the town's central square in 1998, was one of the first Czech mini-breweries. What this place deserved was the blue name  I don't know exactly, perhaps the colour of the building's empty central square and restaurant (by the way, the entire menu of the beer hall tc stacks, cups, cups, etc. decorated with the blue bar itself around the central square of the town).

Today my wife and I visited this place at noon. Of course we enjoyed a few beers brewed in the house. Simple delicious - especially the dark beer (which is of course a matter of taste). Additionally, freshly made chips with sour cream. Simple wonderful. Service is good and friendly. Especially the bartender and the brewer. You can also look over the brewer's shoulders. Thank you very much and until another time.

One more visit

It's a mini-brewery with a good selection of its own beers. The menu is quite large, but the food is served quickly. The food is simple and elegant, traditional cuisine, lots of meat, vegetarian, there's just something like paned and fried cheese from the pan. My cola was served warm. The rooms are simple and uncomfortable. The menu was in Czech and English, the service was fine.

Very average food (restaurant rating)

The traditional Czech meals are tasty. However, the service is sometimes terrible, e.g. when they only have one waitress on shift. It took 10 minutes for her to come to the table. When asked for the menu, she left but never came back! 

Also, how customers put up with the obnoxious enamel poster of a naked woman with chest exposed, in full view of all customers, including families with children, is a bit surprising. It seems to be a permanent prop in the outdoor dining area. Foreigners may find it offensive.

The beer is quite good, though.

Good meals but bad service and sexist advertising!

A charming little hotel in the town centre, very clean rooms, and despite their lack of English, very hospitable. The big sell on this place was they brew and sell their own beer, ranging from 11% to a mind blowing 23%!!!! We ate in the restaurant for dinner and was happy with the food but had to leave before breakfast started. Not a lot to do in the area, but a charming little stop over

Lovely little place 

For friends of a well-groomed beer, this is a more than worthwhile goal. A wide variety of very light beers (10 degrees) to very heavy almost liqueur-like high-percent (17° strawberries) products.

Mini-breweries of the top class

The homemade beer is delicious. I always like it. The food is average. Typical local specialties can be found on the map. Service is unfriendly and leaves the guest alone. Re-ordering drinks was not possible.

I arrived during a busy Friday evening with several weekend festivals in the area.  At first, I thought I was in luck because there was a room available. I already rode 140 km with a headwind and 33 degrees, on my bike and was looking forward to a good meal and even a better bier.  The outside biergarten was packed and a Bohemian boogie woogie band wailed. It was going to be tough to get some sleep I thought.  Waited nearly an hour to check in, luckily the wifi was down so that my credit card didn’t go through as I was shocked at the 1550 kr. price. The night before I stayed in a touristy town , Karlstejn, in a great pension for 500 kr, which I though is a good benchmark price for accommodations in small towns. We agreed that I’d pay in the morning. Then she took me to an attic room that was super overheated with a single ceiling window that couldn’t be opened. I tried to get the price reduced to reflect the poor accommodations to no avail. I was told that I could open the window in the “luxury” bathroom that afforded no breeze. Clearly this was exploitation, I wouldn’t mind the excessive price if there was air conditioning or at least a way to reduce the furnace like heat. Having nearly an hour left of light, I decided to hit the road. What happened next is another story!
