The location is good, close to the center and the building has a nice view. I met friendly travelers but I didn't feel very safe. I found the manager a bit gross. He was there all the time and he was staring at my... back each time he was behind me. He also never stopped inviting me to have beer or wine even after I told him I don't drink alcohol.

Strange vibes

I had a lovely stay at Poets' Corner. The staff are amazing, and the hostel couldn't be more cozy. Great location within walking distance of everything in Olomouc. Good stopover between Prague and Krakow, but you're doing yourself a disservice by only staying one night!

STAY HERE!

Of all things one ought to do in one's life, the most important one might very well be to embark at least once on a genuine and meaningful journey.

"Where" doesn't remotely matter as much as "why" such an adventure would be undertaken : it seems very possible that traveling to a small and neighboring town could contain infinitely more meaning than venturing to the grandiose edge of the world with little purpose and an empty heart. Not unlike the "hero's journey", the journey that calls one out on the roads of the unknown at a certain moment of one's life is just as much a journey of the mind and soul as it is the crossing of a physical, material distance.

It is perhaps something that we forget all to often in this day and age where technology and the industry of mass tourism have shrunk the vastness of our world to ridicule, rendered what were once fabulous quests to uncharted lands absurdly affordable and converted trying, hardly comfortable and exhausting travels into an all-too normal part of life. 

It is a contemporary peculiarity that seemingly great amounts of people these days can casually cruise across half of the world within a year or two of "sabbatical break", until they eventually make their way home, with a nice tan, a bunch of trave of anecdotes in mind and infinite entries on their instagram account, but for the most part unchanged where it most matters : within. 

Why this lengthy and tiresome rant as on opener of a hostel review, you may ask ? It seemed relevant to me, in order to accurately formulate my thought, to make a point about how a meaningful journey far outweights a hollow one and remind that appearances - as always - are deceiving in this regard.

In short, you wouldn't expect a two day stay in a pretty yet peripheral city within the czech republic to offer much that a trip to the gorgeous and not-so-distant Prague or even Budapest wouldn't. It doesn't seem likely that coming to Olomouc would, in any kind of way, constitute a journey far outweighing the oh so traditional touristic pilgrimage to the crown-jewel of Bohemia.

And yet ...

To say that Olomouc has been a meaningful part of my own, personal, hero's journey would be an understatement - it might very well be the place where my interest for traveling shifted considerably after years of much wandering. The town had its part in this - it is, after all and as previously mentionned, a very cute and active town with much merit - but it is chiefly the welcome i first received upon crossing the threshold of the Poets'Corner and the human links that would be woven henceforth between I and the people I met there that would be responsible for that : the slow discovery of my own purpose and overarching meaning in life.

I dare not go in too much - and additional - lengths about what and how is the place itself : it has been accurately portrayed by previous reviews and what impression it leaves is perhaps hard to describe in many words. "Home" is what it feels like. A cosy, old-fashionned and peaceful home. Nothing less and little more - but what else could you ask for ?

Peace was all I ever asked of life. And I always longed to have an out-of-a-tale inn to settle down for a while midway to a distant place. 

A year passed since i first stepped into this little world of its own, and I never once regretted it - in fact, I couldn't be more thankful to fate for bringing me here, one summer afternoon, for I have since returned  many times, with the sole wish to retrieve this peace once found amongst friendly faces and wihin the warmth of these four walls. 

In the grand scheme of things, and within the frame of our respective journeys on this lowly world, it seems we regularly forget how much good reside within smaller - or seemingly smaller - things. Or smaller places. Olomouc would be one such place : not so much of a destination but rather a transit station on way to bigger and greater places, barrely worth any consideration at all. 

I'd urge you to reconsider this common idea and to heed my advice to venture to this small corner of the world, for it might surprise you with what it has to offer, and who it might put on your way. I know it surely surprised me then and has continued to surprise me since, every time I walked my way to its streets and settled for a while - long or short - at the Poets' Corner, a real life resting inn for the strained traveler on way to a better known town.

A transit station perhaps; but an important one ... And what a start really, for the journey of a lifetime.

As I depart once more and life resumes its course, I reckon that I'll see this place and its faces again before long - and I cannot help but recall these famous words whose author's name was lost to time : "in every travel a purpose and its beauty lying not at the end, but within the journey itself."

There and back again ...

I really liked my stay.
After a nice welcome, let's your bags on your bed and pay your bed, the fun begin.
The owners or an employee give you a map of the city and take around 5-10 minutes to explain the attraction, some places to eat and the city in general.
Nice kitchen, old furniture but nice and cozy. You feel like if you're in an apartment with friends. 
Free coffee and tea in a bonus :-) No breakfast but you're at home, so make your own food if you want.

Go there, unless you want to regret it!

Très bonne auberge. Vous êtes comme à la maison. Situé au 4e étage, vous y serez confortable et dans le calme. Le propriétaire et son équipe sont très sympathique.

Vous pourrez peut-être aller prendre quelques bière avec certains et d'autre voyageurs sur une magnifique terrasse.

Endroit paisible. Ville a recommander et auberge un essentiel à y aller.

I liked the atmosphere, but it doesn't need to fit everyone's expectation. The location is good, and the same goes for the hospitality of the hostel. Staff was very nice, with perfect English, and willing to help. From the point of me being a guest, I can not complain. If you like this old style, I believe you might enjoy your stay at this place.

Nostalgic place where you will feel like vising your grandma

Simply one of the best stays I've ever had.
The hostel has an incredibly home atmosphere and, since the beggining, I found my self in such a comfortable and welcoming place. Even if I had to take 4 floors of stairs to get to the hostel, all of that was worth it considering the incredible stay I had there. The staffs were really nice, helpfull and treat us like a familly and the entire hostel seems to be incredibly clean and organized with some really cozy rooms. The kitchen was fully equiped and perfect for those who enjoy cooking.
The perfect place to spent an overnight or to pass sometime exploring the charmfull Olomouc.
Hope to get back there sometime.

Cozy, welcoming and friendly.

For taking the Universities admission test I had to spend 2 nights in Olomouc and Poets Corner was the best choice I could've made.
The owner (I guess) greeted me personally and super friendly and showed me everything I needed to know. The room (I had a private room) was clean, big and furnished with lovely old stuff, just like all of the hostel. Also the cities beautiful center/old town is just around the corner and it's easy to get to the hostel from almost everywhere in town.
Would've loved to stay longer, I'll come back when I visit Olomouc the next time! :)

Very relaxed Hostel in perfect location and nice staff :)

Poets Corner is ideal for an overnight stay or as a base to discover the beauties of Olomouc city and the region. The atmosphere is friendly, the facilities are good and a total breath of fresh air as opposed to soulless hotels.

Central, friendly and great value.

I pride myself in being a connoisseur of hostels having used them around the world for many years and Poets Corner Hostel in Olomouc is currently my favourite! Centrally located with large airy rooms, very comfortable beds, a kitchen which is conducive to camaraderie and the sharing of food, and a living room which is seductive to pleasure, inviting one to become engrossed in reading and, during the five days that I was there, I was lucky enough to overlap with a concert pianist from Hong Kong who bathed us in delicious music from the old piano—How they got the piano up all those stairs is beyond my comprehension!And the staff made everyone feel like family. My only regret is that it is not wheelchair accessible as I have a young friend whom I would love to bring here but it is an old beautiful building and I hope you have the opportunity to stay here. And when it is hot it is not too far to immerse yourself in a fabulous lake....

Poets corner hostel

I spent 5 nights here. Very nice place next to the main square in Olomouc. It's clean and you have a feeling you are at home. Very good hosts, Ian, Klara, Martin and Tamara, helping you with everything you might need at any moment. Very friendly atmosphere made by hosts and other guests as well. If you like music on the background, it was very relaxing. Hope to see you next time again.
