It was a jail converted and so we were excited about staying there. Owners call it a boutique hotel but don't know why! It doesn't have facilities for the high price they charge. The rooms 6 and 7 only have attached bath rooms, while others have shared bathrooms.
We stayed in room 6. The bathroom was just too small!
The breakfast was simply very poor. Overall not worth the money paid.

Ideal Location Exorbitantly Priced

This place is just neat. It used to be a jail so the rooms are small but full of history. The way the owner designed the rooms is cool with pull out beds and unique seating. The bathrooms are shared which I didn't mind but might bother other people. In general I enjoyed my stay.

Great location and  interesting (in a good way)

I was very excited to be staying in a converted jail and hence was extremely disappointed by my experience.
Firstly, I wasn't staying in an actual converted cell. This may also be my fault for not checking properly, I had a single room with a shared bath, so if you do want to stay in cell make sure you ask. So my room was on the top floor. The room itself was nice enough with a sink, bed was comfortable. But the shared bathroom was not so good. The shower and shelf above the basin had mould and looked like they hadn't been cleaned properly in a while, the shower didn't drain properly, I had to turn it off a couple of times to stop the water overflowing and it had not pressure. Also it was dark at night, and you have to go through a common room where the lights only turned on/off at the end you entered from, I had to use my torch to navigate through.The breakfast, various breads, some which were stale, a couple of juices and coffee, I ended up going somewhere else just to get a cup of tea. So if you like a decent breakfast you won't get it here. There is also no wifi if that is important to you.
But most disappointing  was the Incredibly unfriendly owner/manager who I found to the point of almost being rude (however there was a lovely women who came to let me in and give me the keys). It was almost like I was an inconvenience. First I had problems getting to Ribe, I emailed to let her know, I got there and there was note on the door with a number to call, when I did I felt like I was getting told off. Then the following morning no acknowledgment, good morning, anything. The only time she smiled or acknowledged my existence was when she wanted the key when I was leaving. When I asked if I could leave my bag for the day, it was like the biggest inconvenience. I ended up leaving it at the tourist information office who were incredible friendly and helpful. Ribe is lovely, but I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

Very disappointing

Although a good walk from the station it is ideally situated for sight-seeing. It was formerly a prison and the cells are small but quite interesting . Only 8 cells I think but it was full. Breakfast is served in two sittings but that was fine.   Directly opposite the Cathedral and on a square with many bars,restaurants  . It was ideal for our two day stay . Loads to see around the the area, beautiful old town

Unusual Accommodation to say the least - But Good Location

This is a centuries-old converted building; if you want a modern five-star place rather than a typical older European hotel, look elsewhere. If you want something a little different, consider this.

Anita accommodated our late arrival with a smile. Though we were the only guests our first night, she laid on a full breakfast buffet (see photo) and offered us many useful and interesting cultural tidbits. We stayed two nights and were very comfortable despite the small room (it was once a cell!). I would stay here again.
