it's a good option. well located, no stress for check in. some "BUTs": though stars, specially if you have luggage. it's one bathroom for about 4 rooms. My room was 'inclinated'... I didn't have the breakfast - don't recall if there was not or was my choice. No front desk. It's not a real hotel, it's more a B&B - but I would be there again - nothing facing at all - very simple. But I didn't have problems with the shower so, ok.

it's a B&B but it's ok

The 8 rooms are basically clean but need a very good duster. The shared bath and toilet are ok. There Is no reception, you are attended by the waiters from one order at the table to the other...if you are lucky. I thought It would be nice in Ribe to sleep in such a characteristic old Place.....if we only could have slept. By 6.30 the morning after we were all waken up by heavy drilling noises in the wall. No one has told us (I woudn't have spent the night there) that workers would start drilling and repair the front wall at 6.30 in the morning. Got up and left in the middle of dust and workers everywhere with no one from Weis Stue. NEVER AGAIN!!

Sorry to say never again

Weis Stue began as an inn hotel in 1704, and when you check into the rooms above the restaurant, you step back into time. You open your room door with a huge, old-fashioned metal key, and set it down on an old iron room stove repurposed into a lamp table. Some of original wood wall panels are still in place, coated with hundreds of years of paint, and if the furniture isn’t original, it at least appears to be very old (Mattresses are new and fresh, however). Out the window is a wonderful view of the old Viking town’s main market square and historic Ribe cathedral, built in 1150. 

That said, this is not an inn for divas: the (clean, modern) bath and shower are shared, and noise insulation is non-existent. There are heavy wooden doors slamming all over the place, the restaurant downstairs is open until 10pm with outdoor seating in the summer, and the bells from the cathedral next door begin at 7:45 am. During the long Danish winter, the rooms are rather dark. 

That said, as a history lover I found it to be a fun and memorable experience. 

This inn is also a great place for solo travellers, as the inn has rooms for one at a slightly lower price. 

People with mobility problems may have trouble getting up the steep wooden stairs.

I also recommend the restaurant downstairs, which somehow manages to be touristy but still very, very good. I like the fried fish platter with Danish rye bread, and in summer the restaurant also serves excellent homemade lemonade. Book a table during the busy tourist season if you want to eat there.


Fun experience for history lovers; great for single travellers

I reviewed this place when I reviewed the restaurant.  The building dates from 1600 and we had views of the wonderful 12th century cathedral out our windows.  The interior has been well maintained and kept clean, but it is a historic building, not a glitzed-up copy.  As their website says, with typical Danish humor: "No flat screen TV, shower and toilet in the corridor, but low ceilings and lots of creaky stairs".  I would also add that pulling a suitcase up the steep, narrow stair way would be difficult for some folks.  Still,, we loved it for its immense charm, and not just because it is 1/2 the price of other places in town.  We would go back instantly, and hope to.

Open both for lunch and dinner. Great menu with some of the favourite dishes of Denmark. Friendly service. Reasonable priced for a Danish standard. Pan fried  fish/prawns on Rye bread is my favourite. Credit accepted. Located right in the town center. Very popular.

Great traditional lunch

This ancient and homely pub/restaurant is perfectly situated slap bang in the middle of town, right next to where the  town crier starts his round. The staff was very friendly and informative. It's on the corner of the Cathedral Square. Just have some wine and watch the world go by!

Danish Hygge

Both the hotel and resturaunt are very charming. It will put you about 300 years in the past. Ribe was also very charming, with two small, but very nice museums as well as a  cathedral. Lovely place for a relaxing stay.

Lovely 300 year old hotel with excellent food in central Ribe.

Went there for date night ;) very old and small, but we had a wonderful time, and ate very good food! Wasn’t that expensive either. 
Service was very good and its a special kind of feeling sitting in such an old house.

Wauw - if you want to go back in time and you’r in one of Denmark’s oldest towns, Ribe in the western part of Denmark, and you want to stay at a great place I can recommend Weis Vinstue in Ribe, DK.
It’s amazing and the service is excellent- but beware of the hight of the rooms- I’m a tall guy so I had to bend all my limbs but I survived:)
Give it a try - and you’ll have an experience for life.
