This was a wonderful Spring Break in the Dominican Republic. The Iberostar Star Waves Punta Cana did not disappoint at all. The service right from check in was excellent. Got our room no problem. It was a nice room, cleaned well every day, had a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. The resort is large, and split between the Iberostar Waves Punta Cana on the west half, and the Iberostar Waves Dominicana on the east half. You had access to both. East of the Dominicana, you have the Iberostar Selection, which is condo units that you can always buy into. The gym was there, which you also have access to. We did not have any sales pitches to go to a presentation, but they were definitely there - all you need to do is say no if you’re not interested. The à la cartes were very good. You booked them at the front desk no problem. Some you didn’t even need to book (ex. La Marimba steakhouse) - you could just line up in front of the restaurant at the designated time and they let you in. It was the easiest system we’ve had in years. We found the Pagoda (Asian) to be the least desirable one of the six we did (steakhouse, Asian, Star Rock Cafe (American), La Sibila (French), Mexican and Italian). There were lots of deck chairs everywhere by the pools. Normally I get up at about 6:30 am to reserve mine, but here you can wait until about 8:00 am to safely do it and still get where you want (beach or pool). The bars all did great jobs at getting your drinks - you just have to remember that knowledge of English is varied amongst the staff everywhere (who were all wonderful, by the way), so having a translator app handy is definitely a good idea. The beach is beautiful and they run a tractor over it every day (I could see from my room) to clear off the seaweed as best they can. The entertainment every night at both the stages on the Punta Cana and Dominicana sides were good. The buffets on each side were also very good (Higuey on the Dominicana side and Hispaniola on the Punta Cana side). Overall, this is definitely a resort I would return to. This is my second Iberostar resort, and I would say it is a great company - they do things right.
