Friendly place. I turned up quite early, they had a bungalow available and checked me in early.

The three bungalows are basically on the beach (set a little back), huge and well appointed. Faultless.

The beach itself, whilst not spectacular  by DR standards, has a natural beauty and is empty other than for guests and day-visitors to the property. It has some seaweed and rocks however is kept free of rubbish.

Restaurant prices are high ish for DR however portions are generous and the quality super.

I was stopping for one night on the way to Samana however if you want a peaceful stay on the beach it's certainly worth longer.

Superb property highly recommended 

I am writing this review from Playa Paraiso ..literally watching and listening to the waves roll in, with the warmth of the Dominican sun and breeze surrounding me.  Sipping a hot cup of coffee, made to perfection, I reflect on how lucky I am.  I am so grateful to have discovered this piece of paradise. 

We arrived on a beautiful sunny Tuesday afternoon.  The drive was simple and signage was great.   I was a bit nervous when the description on the website said they can be hard to find.  But that was not our experience.  We followed the signage and it was absolutely no problem navigating our way to Paraiso.  It’s about 1.5 hrs from Puerto Plata depending on the traffic through Sosua and Cabarete.  And about 15 minutes from the town of Gasper Hernandez on route to Rio San Juan.  And absolutely worth the beautiful coastal drive!!!.  

When we arrived we presented at the beach restaurant, a rotunda of open concept kitchen & bar with tables and lovely dining space.  We were greeted by numerous members of the staff with huge smiles and energetic salutations.  We were invited to have a seat and relax for a moment while they checked us in.  Within a couple minutes we were being escorted to our bungalow cabana.  Let me just say the pictures do not do it justice. 

Accommodation: Each Cabana is a perfectly appointed, Large, open and airy bedroom with private bathroom and includes a large closet and windows surrounding.  Each has a TV with cable box, fans, wifi, fridge, sitting area and mosquito net over the bed (we never had to use it but definitely was nice to have the option available). 
The king sized bed was very comfortable, with sheets that are uber soft and luxurious. And big plush full size towels in the bathroom.  The bathroom was not super fancy, but had everything we needed including toiletries, hot water and was extremely clean.  
Each bungalow cabana has its own private covered deck outfitted with comfortable bamboo furniture and a hammock.  And although the cabanas are side by side you feel like you have total privacy.  And there is nothing like walking out the door and being directly on the beach.  

Restaurant:  The staff are typical Dominican amazing!!  Their hospitality and client care is top notch!!!  We were treated like royalty….as were all the guests.  We enjoyed eating at the restaurant for every meal.  We had brought some of our own food and drink to have in the room with us as each room is equipped with a fridge but we ended up eating each meal at the restaurant because the food was sooooo good and was very reasonably priced.  Example:  Pasta Bolognese is $500 pesos ($11 CDN) and it was a huge portion of deliciousness. Linguini pasta covered in a beautifully seasoned meat sauce.  
You can dine inside the restaurant or outside at any of the many palapa covered tables or if you prefer direct sunlight or to sit under a tree they will happily place a table and chairs in the location you desire. 

We also enjoyed the Pasta Carbonara, Seafood entrée which was loaded with big beautiful shrimp, scallops and lobster – sautéed to perfection and served in a gorgeous cream sauce with rice and salad. For breakfast we enjoyed fried plantain with grilled picked onion, omelettes and a fried cheese pastry that was to die for!  And the coffee was fantastic and bottomless, which for this Canadian is a luxury …not only to have the incredible coffee of the Dominican but also to have it served hot and endless.  And the pasta was so delicious…I can’t eat pasta in Canada because of gluten issues but I have no problem in the Dominican and for me that is an extra special treat to have great pasta. 

Beach:  The property is gorgeous with beautiful palms and tropical plants.  The beach is pristine with loungers and chairs available across the beachfront of the property.  The water is clear with very little rocks…it is almost completely sandy to walk out in the water for at least 50 feet.  And if walking the beach is your thing you will love strolling along the beautiful almost white sandy beach for as far as you’d like to walk.  

Whether you are looking for a place to spend a night, a week or more …or just go for a great meal and enjoy the beach…Playa Paraiso is a definite must.  We will be back many more times.   And if you are planning a small destination wedding and don’t need/want the expense of a big resort I would highly recommend Playa Paraiso.  It is the perfect setting and accommodation.  In fact you could have a big’ish wedding there with other guests staying at close by hotels as there is only 3 bungalow cabanas onsite.

I’m certain they could accommodate any size of party for a wedding or event, regardless if overnight accommodations are required.  And it is definitely a place I would recommend for a romantic honeymoon.  And equally enjoyable for families with kids of any age. 

My spouse and I stayed one night and had 3 meals for two plus drinks and it was about $150 CDN including tip.  This is now on our list of favourite places in DR and we will be back over and over again ….even if just to do a day trip for a great meal at the beautiful beach.   

Playa Paraiso checked everything on our list …amazing staff, very clean, on the beach, great linens, comfortable accommodations, great food & drink …and did I mention how incredible the staff are!!! 

We can’t wait to go back ! And are grateful to have discovered Playa Paraiso.  We are grateful to all the staff for making it a very memorable experience in Paradise.

Playa Paraiso – this is truly Paradise Beach !

Beautiful location, with the bungalows located right on the palm-fringed beach. The ocean water was really warm, quite shallow, and the waves weren't very big - it was great for enjoying the water. 

The grounds were kept very neat, the beach was clean (only natural material such as seaweed), and the spacious bungalows were rustic but kept very tidy. The staff was friendly (they only spoke Spanish, but we managed to get our message across with our basic Spanish skills), and the breakfast included in the room price was superb.

The location was quiet and we had the beach (and the beach loungers) mostly to ourselves. It didn't feel unsafe though, as there was personnel present at all times. We were initially woken up by the fishermen arriving/leaving on mopeds at night (and the guard dogs reacting to them), but got used to it. 

The secluded location meant that there were not too many facilities (e.g. shops) nearby. For eating, there was the property's own restaurant and multiple good food huts at the other end of the beach (ca. 1km). All of them were good and decently-priced, and this worked well for our stay of 4 nights (incl. day trip to Rio San Juan), but maybe for a longer stay the selection might get repetitive. 

A special place; highly recommended instead of boring resorts. Pack insect repellant though, for lounging out at evening time.

A very special, secluded beach stay

Beautiful resort situated just outside the town of Magante. Walking distance from The town via a seldom travelled road. Property consists of a apartment complex; on site restaurant with bar and 3 bungalows facing the ocean. The bungalows are private and face the ocean. They come with all the amenities including a small bar fridge; full shower and towels. Restaurant is reasonably priced and offer a complete breakfast in the morning with stay. Try the land and sea Creole style; you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend for a nice getaway to relax.

Nice Little Getaway

My husband and I stayed for week at the playa in a cabana and it was amazing! The view is simply out of this world. It’s literally on the beach, you don’t get a better ocean view than this anywhere! The water is calm so we spent most of the time lounging on the water with our floaters. And the beach loungers they provide are perfect. There’s no morning scramble to get one because the beach is secluded. Unless you consider a dozen people at the most busy.. you can walk either way on the beach for miles. The restaurant has fabulous food thanks to Wendy the local cook! The staff are all family and are super friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for a super relaxing and slow pace vacation away from all the tourists this place is a must!!
