The place was very relaxed and beautiful, full of nature and with hammocks. Good breakfast and they offer very interesting activities. We were able to surf and we enjoyed it very much. I recommend taking the class in case you have never practiced it.

Relaxed place & good vibes

Amazing place, gorgeous and great vibes. Attention to details, great service. Excellent location. Stayed in the Grand Cottage, very spacious, well distributed,  loved the decor.. Fantastic breakfast too, highly recommend and will definitely return.

Best lodging in Encuentro

I liked it very much, there is sure ways to improve as always but all in all i would go there again. Its close to the Beach, Breakfast is great, the Staff is very nice. If you want to surf you have to go early, very early. Getting to another city is not the easiest task.

Nice Place to stay

Pros: 
Walking distance (12 min) to the surf beaches. 
Connected to a great surf school. Well organized, fair pricing, great instructors overall.
Arranged a car/driver for us to and from the airport and he was very reliable. 
Scrambled eggs were good and fruit was good with breakfast.

Cons: 
We paid (a lot) for the largest accomodation and while it was large, it was dirty and felt overpriced. The toilet was DISGUSTING and the place needs major updates to charge what they charged. See photos.
The host was not only unavailable, she was unfriendly and unwilling to help when we had issues. Issue number 1 was a blood stain on the sheets the first night when we were tired after a long day of travel. She tried to tell us it was rust from the wash. As a woman, ya know blood when ya see blood on the bed sheets. It took  2 hours to get someone to come change the sheets and I spent about 45 minutes of that time arguing with her on WhatsApp about it being blood versus rust. 
Issue #2 was an extremely loud group of people screaming well into the night as it approached 11:30 pm . I whatsapp'd her to ask her to please have someone come have them quiet down as the public area was directly outside our accommodations and we were surfing at HER surf school the next morning at 7 am. I got no response after the first two WhatsApp communications and nothing was done. 
Breakfast each morning was 8-11 but eggs and other items were rarely available until 8:30 and then you had to ask them to put out food if you went for breakfast after 10, which was awkward and they made you feel like an inconvenience. 
Kitchen was very dirty and shared by the cleaners who also do breakfast prep as well as everyone staying on the premises. 
Screen to door was broken so bugs were constantly getting inside. 
Lock didn't work on the room so our room was never locked. No one helped with that issue. 
No safe in room, so our stuff never felt completely safe. 
Front door to the whole property doesn't close properly so it was constantly left open by guests 
One lousy plastic table and chair was left for our use outside our cottage.
Pool is freezing. No one used it the whole week we were there. 
Owner is constantly trying to tell you that her "babies" are sick or asleep or she can't do this and that because of her babies, but then all day long her babies are running around the beach while she surfs. 
Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. there are much better places for a fraction of the cost!

Not the best experience

The atmosphere is really good, great location walking distance to Encuentro beach and the food park. It includes a nice breakfast and beautiful gardens, as well as a yoga studio, The rooms are cosy and the staff is super helpful with providing information, help and tips.

Great stay in Encuentro

Had an amazing time staying at Surfbreak and can't recommend enough. Great rooms, breakfast and Jero and Eli were extremely helpful throughout my stay. It's also a great location for access to Encuentro beach or Cabarete.  Thank you and will be back for sure. 

Amazing place to stay in Cabarete

We had the BEST time ever! 
All of Surf Break staff are super nice and helpful ! 
The accommodations are truly confortable and much more nicer than the pictures! 
Breakfast is the best part! Lots of fruits and vegetables, spongy bread and nice spot to enjoy it beside one of the swimming pools.
The room was always clean which we really appreciate.

We really enjoyed peacefully every day and rested as much as we could! 
We where steps away from Encuentro Beach where we could practice surf during the mornings and some afternoons with Wave Soul Retreats (check it out!).
We're definitely coming back soon to keep enjoying Cabarete with spectacular people and great places!

Truly GREAT experience !

Beautiful place with great hosts. We had a very warm welcome and our rooms were awesome. The breakfast was fresh and everything was offered to have a great start for the day. We also were renting some surfboards and got help with daily activities or restaurant advices.

Beautiful place with great hosts

This place exceeded my expectations in every way. I picked it for the pictures and the cottage vibe- but the pictures don't do it justice.

From the moment you walk in the door, it's like a hidden tropical oasis. A beautiful stone path leads you through an immaculately maintained garden to the common area where there is a well maintained pool, eating area, hammock, and a communal kitchen. There is also a stack of coconuts and a machete so you can open one up to have some fresh coconut water. Also there are a couple of kittens guarding the food area, who were also very friendly. 

My cottage was down a short path through the garden. Despite being close to other rooms, it felt very private and the view of the garden out the front door every morning was amazing. The aesthetic was spot on while still having modern amenities. I would recommend bringing shampoo and conditioner as that was not present. Also a refillable water bottle would be a good thing to keep in your room for drinking purposes. I opted for a room with AC, but despite it being summer I barely used it. The high ceiling and fan did plenty for cooling and at night it dropped to mid 70s due to the wind so it was quite nice out. 

Both sections of the property are completely walled off from the outside world which makes it feel very private and secure. Most nights I didn't even bother to lock my door since the property itself is inaccessible without a keyfob, and on the main section I believe there was only one other room. It's also in a fairly nice neighborhood, a short walk from the beach, a bakery, and the main road where you can ride the motoconchos into Cabarete or Sosua. There's also a gorgeous ocean frontage road which is a nice way to get into town if you don't mind walking.

The owners are very friendly and often present in the common area at various times of day. Sometimes they cook communal meals (we had homemade wood fired pizza one night), and they invited me to participate in various activities they were doing. They also operate a surf school which was both nearby and very reasonably priced. I had already booked my kiteboarding lessons, or I would have considered going through them for that as well. I really felt like I was part of the family and enjoyed that aspect a lot.

I am so glad I picked this place, it really enhanced my enjoyment of my vacation and I felt like it was far better than having been in a standard hotel or resort. I will definitely go here again over any other place in Cabarete when I return.

Exceeded all expectations

I am (was) a total newbie traveling solo but always wanted to learn to surf while also staying off the beaten path away from the all inclusive scene.   I researched several places and finally landed on Surf Break.  I was a little worried that not being right on the beach would be  an issue for me but walking through that door for the first time almost immediately put me at ease.   The grounds and atmosphere are exactly what anyone could want if looking for a tranquil, rejuvenating vacation.  The place is kept immaculate and the fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare food from the local markets.  Breakfast offered is great and offers eggs, fresh rolls, fresh fruit, cereal and great coffee daily.  The staff is so welcoming and always available to assist with any needs or area suggestions and information you may require to make your stay incredible.  Pizza night is a must as not only is the pizza awesome but it allows you to interact with the other guests.  I quickly made friends from around the world that will not soon be forgotten and hopefully extend long after just my week at Surfbreak. Note, this is not a party hotel and outside of pizza night, everyone kinda shuts down from 8pm onward depending on the night.  being a solo traveler, a few extra interactive evenings would have been welcomed but I was lucky enough to meet some great people to venture into Cabarete (15 min drive, taxi) for dinner and live music.  The walk to the beach is short and many walks down to the beach I was greeted along the way by roaming horses and even cattle.  There were moments it felt kinda majestic, especially close to the beach.  What I loved about the area was the unspoiled trees and foliage that lined the beach.  At times of the day if felt Ias though had my own private beach and didn't feel like a tourist beach.   During the morning through mid day you will find the busiest time with avid surfers.  There are many different places along the beach offering surf lessons, I used Wave Soul (affiliated with surf break) and highly recommended.  I received a lesson and board rental is available daily through your visit.  Places to eat are plentiful in walking distance from the food park 5 min walk, a few places scattered along the beach area and close to surf break (surf roll rooftop restaurant around the corner).  Anyway, without writing a book, it is no secret I highly recommend Surfbreak for solo, couples and friends looking for paradise for an exceptional value but beyond an even greater travel experience.  I expect I will be back in the near future and without doubt I can say that Surfbreak is the best place in the area so there is no need to decide and simply book your ticket to paradise.
