If you want to be off the beaten path and still have a delightful place to stay, this might be the hotel for you. We stayed at this property for just one night on August 6, 2016 and could not have been happier. We wished later that we would have planned several days here in Banos. We didn't have time to experience much with the hotel but the setting was charming. We got in rather late as our drive from Cuenca had taken longer than we expected. Be aware that the property is not easy to find...we ended up stopping at a restaurant in Banos itself, calling the hotel, and asking them to come for us, which they were happy to do. It is WAY up the mountain but worth it in our opinion.

We were tired when we arrived and one of the staff built a fire in the fireplace for us in our room...sleeping to a fire is so cozy. The next morning, we awakened early to a rooster crowing and we got up to go to the hot mineral baths around 6:00 a.m. We really enjoyed that experience along with the cold plunge of the waterfall, and 30 minute massages for $10.

We didn't have a chance to eat at Las Orquideas but we did enjoy the short stay and the beautiful views!

Charming, quaint hotel

Hotel is almost on the top of the hill, so not to close to Banos center, which is good! you can quietly rest after daily attractions. Rooms are simple, but clean and nicely painted. A lot of flowers everywhere, benches to seat down and rest. If the weather is good you can have breathtaking view of the Tunguragua volcano. Local restaurant has very good cheap food and freshly made juices from local fruits. Staff is very friendly and helpful, specifically the hostess who even took us for a walk to see local lamas! There is no TV in room , but very good Wi-fi.

quiet, nice place

Pros:

1) Very clean, very comfortable.
2) Fireplace that can be lit at night if you request it.  They are very generous with firewood.
3) Quiet, quaint location, feels like a farm stay.
4) Food was very tasty, we had dinner and breakfast and it was great as well as a good value for $.
5) Close to casa de arbol, you can walk for 20 mins to get to it.
6) Family very nice and welcoming.

Cons:

1) No shower curtain so bathroom floor would get very wet when showering.
2) Location is $8-10 taxi ride away from town or 45 minute walk downhill (we never went uphill).

Good hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights mostly because of the chef, Olivier and his mother, Clella who served an amazing dinner to us three nights in a row.  Breakfasts were also hearty including fresh fruit juice, coffee that was not up to par for our standards but acceptable, wonderful scrambled eggs, and bread and cheese.  They dining room always had a warm fire in the fire place, and Olivier and his mother could not do enough for us.  Such wonderful folks!!  Dinner was grilled chicken, that was tasteful and fresh french fries plus 2 amazing salads.  A must order is the volcano salad.  Rooms were modest in decor but comfortable.  We stayed on the second floor and slept with our windows open at night enjoying the cool mountain air.  Definitely would go back here to enjoy the fine, warm hospitality as well as the amazing food.

So when headed to the site of the hotel you should make sure the Taxi knows where its going as ours said he did then on route, he "realized' it was further away and wanted to hike up the initial rate.  
FYI, from the bus terminal to the Las Orquideas you shouldn't pay more than $25.
Once we arrived, we decided to eat at the restaurant and the food was great, the view from the window was amazing.  After lunch we hiked up the road to the "La Casa del Arbol" it was a bit cloudy by then and most of the panoramic views were blocked, oh well still got some cool pics.
Once back at the hotel we settled into the hammocks and had some beers, once it got chilly we warmed up by the outdoor fireplace.  My one complaint is pretty big: bed bugs, yup, both of us later realized the marks on our backs and arms were not because of mosquitoes, as initially though, but BED BUGS.  
Guess what, if you can't sleep at night, you won't have as much energy in the morn, which will shoot down your fun level the next day.  So if nothing else, eat at the restaurant but stay the night some where else.
