I rated Hostal Latina on my first visit in 2018.  Since then I’ve returned 6-7 times and they never disappoint.  This is a budget hostal, but in my opinion you get much more than others.  I’m a budget traveler and for the price I pay, I get a private room and bath in the room, hot water, a comfortable bed and pillows, good Wifi and it is always very clean.  I’ve stayed by myself (as a single female) and felt very safe.  I’ve also traveled with friends, and they’ve been equally as impressed with the value for the price.  I love the location as well - a quiet neighborhood, but quick direct walk to the main area.  I’m so thankful for a place that I can return again and again and know it will be a consistent experience.  Gracias Milton y espero regresar pronto! :)

Clean, comfortable and consistent

While aesthetically run-down, I thought the facilities were adequate in that the Wi-Fi worked well, the water was hot, and the bed was comfortable. It is also in a nice location a few blocks from the central park. The hotel didn't show up on Google Maps so it was pretty difficult to find at first. I would definitely stay here again for a similar deal which I paid around $10 USD a night. I wouldn't pay the regular $25 a night to stay here as I could probably find a more modern hotel for a similar price.

For the Deal I Got.....I thought it was Solid ($10 per night)

This really is a great place to stay in Cuenca! I originally went and spoke with Mr. Milton about having a room that was quiet and he showed me a variety of rooms. I came back and stayed in my room for 10 days. I kept extending my stay because I really enjoyed my room and Cuenca offered many things to do.
The staff there were so nice, kind, and accommodating. It’s in a great location a block from the main church. If I come back to Cuenca, I would definitely stay in Hostal Latina! Thanks to everyone working there!

Great place to stay in Cuenca!

Very nice hostal on Cuenca

I live in Ecuador on the coast and love to visit Cuenca every chance I get.  I’ve stayed several other places in the past, but this time needed to pay less than what my former favorite place charges.  So based on the reviews and price, I decided to give Hostal Latina a try.  I was not disappointed!  This is a hidden gem in a central location.  Jorge and Milton both do everything they can to give you a good stay.  The rooms are very clean, beds very comfortable and all the staff very friendly.  I stayed in two different rooms.  In one, the hot water wasn’t that great, but the other room it was perfect.  Living in Ecuador, I know hot water can be intermittent, even in our own houses, so that was not a big deal.  You also must realize that all these hostals that are restored old houses are going to have creaking floors and thin walls.  You will also hear some city noises.  That is just part of the charm of staying in the historic area.  I sleep with ear plugs, even in regular hotels, so do that and you will be fine.  I will recommend Hostal Latina to all my friends and will stay there from now on, every time I visit Cuenca.

Won’t stay anywhere else!

Excellent hostel! very well located, in the historic center of Cuenca. The rooms are very spacious, clean, with television, super comfortable beds. The attention of the hostel staff is unbeatable, always ready for everything and have made us feel very comfortable!!! Super recommended!!

This is excellent!

We stayed for 5 nights - great location close to centre of city.
The hostal is an old colonial building with masses of character. Our room was huge - two storeys (spare single bed and bathroom upstairs) with two (small) balconies overlooking the street. Bed was very comfortable. The hostal is looked after by two very friendly and helpful gentlemen, although they speak little English.

Bad: I was the only person allowed up to my room, which is completely absurd. The lady constantly watched me suspiciously like a hawk. I was a totally polite guest and it felt very strict and unwelcoming. Then my friend said the man treated her rudely as she waited downstairs for me to get ready. To get in, you have to ring the loud doorbell and wait for someone to let you in which is very inconvenient and disruptive to other guests. The bathroom & shower were tiny and there's no way to shower without soaking the bathroom. The lamp next to my bed was broken. The antiquity of the building could be viewed as either charming or decrepit, depending on your standards, either way do not expect much privacy. After I checked out I tried to sit in the lobby for an hour to finish some work and at 1pm I was kicked out because apparently I couldn't be trusted to sit in the lobby of my own hotel while the guy ran errands. The worst hospitality I've had in my 8 month trip.

Terrible hospitality

Hostel very well located, you can do everything on foot in the historic center and you are 20min walking from the ground terminal. We had the large room with really spacious mezzanine and facing the street but frankly quiet. The bathroom is a little rustic and the alternate shower between cold water and hot water but clean. The reception was warm and we were given the information we needed. Only a small bemool it is announced on booking a common kitchen... on arrival we are told that no there is no kitchen. What really bothered us then after we finally showed us a kitchen that we were able to use but at the end I really don't know if we really have the right access to it.

I recommend it.

A good hotel with a pleasant reception, a bright patio and well-equipped rooms, well located in the center of Cuenca, close to bus lines, Calderon Square and shopping streets.
