Lot to like for this place.  Great location steps from the cathedral and central square, restaurants and markets too.  Lovely old rooms with tall ceilings, french doors/balcony, kitchenette with fridge, microwave and sink, and good filling hot breakfast each day. And what a view of the cathedral domes, beautifilly lit at night!  But that central location means it's noisy, sometimes on the weekends until pretty late at night.  The shower was a bit wonky too.  However, a great price, probably would stay here again

Great location, but you pay for it with some outside noise

The hotel is located in the middle of the main square, with an excellent location. It is a colonial house with few rooms. The house is beautiful and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The room is spacious, with a comfortable mattress. It even has a small kitchen. Bath with hot water. Free and fast WiFi service. We had breakfast but could not enjoy it because we were ready. The management of the reception staff is wonderful. Hotel 100% recommended.

Don’t stay there if you plan to sleep at night. The place is so noisy that it seems like you are trying to sleep in the park. 
You can hear the chirping of the crosswalk light, and cars and motorcycles speeding next to your ear. You can understand people talking outside while lying on your 3rd floor room!
Good location but nothing matters if you can’t have a decent rest.

Worst night ever.

The hotel is very nice and cheap, and the rooms are quite big and clean. It is also very nicely located and some rooms have a view on the cathedral. The breakfast is not bad as well.  All that is eclipsed by the fact that the hotel is very noisy and at night you can hear everything and it makes it very hard to sleep. Moreover, the room was quite cold and there was no heater. One last thing, we had no wifi in our room. Overall, very nice rooms but it could be a lot better.

Nice hotel but very noisy

The property itself is a beautiful colonial style old building and therefore it’s understandable that it has no elevator. Its convenient location in the city center makes sightseeing on foot easily. Good view from the room. The staff is the best of all! From the junior who took our luggage up to the room, to the lady who checked on us everyday to see if we needed anything, and to the bilingual chef who went an extra mile to call our next hotel in Peru to help sorting out a booking problem, they are all super nice! One minor issue we had was with the cold nights and because the place has no heating system, we need to ask for an extra blanket!

Love the place

A hotel in good condition located in the historic center of Cuenca, very good care, totally recommended. the room in perfect condition, a nice balcony and we had access to a restaurant directly on the ground floor, excellent.

It is excellent.

We stayed two nights and really waited a little longer for this luxurious hotel. The room we had was large but dark and the windows could not be opened. The bathroom without ventilation and with an unpleasant automatic environmental deodorant very chemical. The beds were badly made, saunas loose, etc. It is on a 3rd floor without an elevator. Below is the Café del Parque, where breakfast is served. It is a fairly rich breakfast. Nothing to say. But the kindness of staff to/with the guests is zero. They did not know to give us tourist information and even appearance of displeasure that we asked for... Like Cafe, Super. As Hotel and space for tourists, it leaves much to be desired and is totally overrated.

We were hoping for more.

The room and the location are the only things that are recommended, otherwise both the staff service and the breakfast are very bad; the noise of the street and the adjacent rooms does not allow you to rest well; the reception does not exist, catering to the same guys in the cafeteria who do not cooperate with it.

 Disappointing.

63 stairs up to the rooms. There is no elevator. The building is a very old, original Cuenca house converted into suites and rooms. Rooms are huge, beds very comfy, spotlessly clean. Price includes breakfast which is humongous! 1 block to the main square of the historical center of the city. Lots of restaurants and interesting sites in this area. Floors are original wood and creak unashamedly when walking around.

I stayed in a single room.  It was 'budget' which may explain why some other rooms got good ratings.  But, there are some things even a budget room should be done better.

There was no chair to sit on (only the bed). The very heavy antique chair there had a loose back, but too heavy to move anyway. No table to sit and use a computer at or to eat (after all there IS a kitchenette!) and there was plenty of space to provide a small table for 2 and cafe-style chairs.

The chandelier (main light in room) had only 2 bulbs in it out of 5. I understand wanting to conserve energy, but either put low watt bulbs in all sockets or at least put them opposite of one another so the light doesn't look lop-sided (see photos).

The 'hot tub' shower had a broken hose for the foot massager. It was difficult to determine which position to put the shower handle so it would only spray out the hand held sprayer when you turn it on.  If you didn't have it in the right position, you got blasted with cold water and while the door is open!  Plus, not knowing the position for hot or cold, it took forever for the hot water to show up.  Even after you climb in when the hand-held device is now putting out warm water, when you change the mode to other jets whatever water has been sitting in the other regions of the unit blasts out cold for the first few seconds. Minimal instructions were posted on the vanity mirror but not very helpful and should be posted on the shower unit itself.  I didn't know it was there until afterwards.  Not a very pleasant experience.

Only one waste basket in the bathroom even though there was a kitchenette.

The wooden door at the bottom of the TV cabinet came half way off when I opened it. The upper hinge was not attached at all.

It was 62 steps to my room. Not fun if you have a heavy bag and/or you're affected by the 8,000 ft altitude. But, that's what you get in old patrimonial buildings that never had elevators.  Plus, the handrails at the bottom level were very dirty and should be wiped regularly.

All in all, a charming hotel in a great location that doesn't empty your wallet.  However, management needs to pay more attention to detail or risk losing business due to these types of reviews/feedback.
