My experience at hotel Majestic 1 was excellent: clean sheets, great matress and a very relaxing shower. The staff was very polite and helpful. The location in excellent, I got a room in the first floor and couldn't here anything that was happening outdoors, as I'm a light sleeper this is gold for me.
The only thing that I didn't like much was the breakfast because I'm a vegetarian and half the dish was made of meat, but it's the typical continental breakfast for hotels in Ecuador, so..

Charming and comfy

The problem was not the infrastructure (it's an old habilitated house and even the flight of a crude fly) but that was the least. At 1:30 am the doorbell rang and the reception, a bunch of people (maybe no more than 6 but it felt like 20), arguing with the manager, then chatting and running at every volume between them and doing a roundshow around the place until 3:30 am. The manager was obliged to ask them about the noise and it was obvious that he didn't.

Poor experience

The place is very well decorated and welcoming, it is close to the historic center at 3 blocks... it costs me 18 c/night including breakfast.

Buen hotel 

Nice location seems to know Cuenca, the owner is friendly and the beds are comfortable, but it has a deficit in bathrooms and noise insulation, since, as it is an old house, the central hall is separated from the pieces by walls with windows, so you get to know everything that happens outside. It has no breakfast, but you can have breakfast nearby. The restaurants are about 5 square feet and there are several bars at that same number of square feet.

Good location 

We stay here in october 2014. We have pay 40 $ for one double with private room. This is clean but there was very musty smell. The sleep was impossible, because all the night the guests ring the bell to enter (they don't have a key and the reception is close in the night). In the morning the allarm is at 07:00 because we could hear the noise of the kitchen and blenders for fruit juices. Breakfast is poor. The wii fii is good. We went out the next day.

Bad sleep

This used to be the Hostal Paredes in the 2006 Lonely Planet guidebook but has changed owners, as I found out using the old guidebook. The rooms are located in a colonial mansion a couple of streets to Cuenca town centre.  From the outside, it has an inviting lobby and on the inside the rooms are clean, the beds have very comfortable sprung mattresses, most of the floors are wooden or wooden laminate, rooms have antique furniture or a mix of modern and antique furniture, rooms have modern bathrooms with warm/hot showers, tv, a bottle of water, and fast wifi.  The front rooms have windows but the backrooms don't although the doors have glass paneling above to allow natural light.  The roof of the hotel has a large skylight so there is a lot of natural light during the day.  I paid $18 for a single person, room with private bathroom and bathtub and it comes with breakfast (juice, coffee, bread, scrambled eggs, jam and butter).

The only disadvantage is that the tv downstairs is on all day playing music videos but they switch it off at night. Since it is an old building, the noise echoes. I only saw one other guest while I was here.  If you want to experience staying in an old colonial mansion then this is it.

good value, nice rooms in cuenca

I arrived in Cuenca without any hotel reservations. I just had a cab take me to Parque Calderon, which is the main square in Cuenca and walked around until I found I place I liked. I stopped at 3 other hotels before I ended up at the Majestic but I thought they were too expensive for the quality of the room. The room I ended up in at the Majestic was almost as nice as the rooms in the more luxurious hotels but it was 1/5 the price at only $21. 

The room I stayed in (room 203, a tipo A room) was huge, with hardwood floors, beautiful dark solid wood furniture, a nice inlaid painted ceiling, a balcony, tv, a minifridge, two sitting areas, three beds and recently renovated bathroom featuring 24/7 hot water and a glass-enclosed whirlpool bath. The hotel also provides free fast wifi and cheap $1.75 breakfasts and lunches. The hotels does have three types of cheaper rooms but I cannot comment on the quality of them. 

The hotel is located about 2.5 blocks north of Parque Calderon and there are plenty of ATM's, restaurants, grocery stores (there is one right next door), bakeries, and public transit nearby. The hotel staff are nice, although they speak very limited English, offering to store my baggage for me for a few hours upon my departure and giving me directions to various sites. As an added plus, check-out time is not until 1:30PM. I actually walked from the hotel to the hat factories and then to the airport (this is a first for me anywhere in the world) it took about 20 minutes. 

My criticisms of the hotel are relatively minor. The floor in my room was very squeaky when walking on it. They do lock the front doors at night and you must wait for a staff member to open them. The room did not have a trash can so I had to go tot he common areas to dispose of trash. The hotel is almost eerily empty, I saw one other guest the whole time I was there (three days). That is pretty much it. 

I give the Hostal Majestic 4-stars, 2 thumbs up. Its a good deal in Cuenca.

Awesome for the Price

I stayed in Hostal Majestic for several nights. I had a single room with private bathroom, 11$ per night with no window. The venue is quite weird (seems like a ghosted building) but I liked the atmosphere. You definitely get a different experience compared to the regular backpacker hostels.
It is located 2 blocks away from the cathedral, and there is a supermarket just around the corner. It is quiet, but my bathroom was not very clean (hot water 24/24). The Internet connection is very fast too.

Recommended for the somewhat strange experience :)

Kinda weird but nice place to stay

I stayed there for 6 weeks. 1 week in a $10/night room and 5 weeks in the best $21/night room after American Airlines found my baggage. The  $10 room had no window and was very basic. The $21 room had a window overlooking a main street downtown, a refrigerator and a large glass enclosed shower. The people were very friendly and helpfull. The manager drove me to the bagage claim location across town, he helped me find an excelent barber and sold me a good used watch to replace one I lost. He cashed large bills for me when the banks were closed. Because I stayed so long, he gave me a discount on the room. The room prices were per person, not per room. The hostel is located 3 blocks from the center of the city. Breakfast was good soup, fruit juce, popcorn, usually chicken w/ rice and a veg, for $1.75.
