We have now  visited the hacienda on 5 different occasions with visitors.   The former hacienda is an "undiscovered" mature, beautifully landscaped oasis with ponds along the river.  Swimming pool, tennis courts, jacuzzi, sauna, conference rooms, historic exhibits, a church, and much more on many hectares of history. 

We along with friends have dined here each time.  The restaurant serves fine quality food and is well know for providing the service, food, and hospitality for any special occasion.

The grounds are lovely. That's where the plus points end. On arrival we were put in a very basic room, not really the "superior" room that was supposed to have balcony, bath etc. The room was very dingy and as there were very few customers i showed the staff the booking. They "upgraded" us to a marginally better room. There was no hot water and the bathtub failed to work. After a few hours of asking a staff member begrudgingly came and spent half an hour running a luke warm bath that had all kinds of crap floating in it and claiming the problem resolved. 

The facilities are, well, crap. Sure if they worked or were on then it would be good. With only maybe 10 guests, the sauna and pool and turco were default off. Due to their large size it takes over 3 hours to heat up and never reached a temperature that would make anyone comfortable.

The food was probably the biggest surprise and also the biggest down point. I read some reviews and here talk of wood fired pizza and special dishes. I think maybe if you hire this place for a large function and use extra staff then it may be ok. However, the standard menu is sub-par cafe food at crazy prices. Very little vegetarian food. The stuff they do have is served like warm and often close to un-edible....no joke!! The $9.00 veg burger, comes out on a giant plate. In the middle is a kinda yellow pattie. That's it!!!! No chips, no salad, no bun. This was for a 4 year old kid??? On mentioning this, we received two tiny pitta breads, about the size of a large coin. They were rock hard and at this point i must confess to seeing if they bounced off the pillar the staff could not see. They do! and dont break :S We one made the mistake of asking for room service. 3 hours....no exaggeration, the "food" arrived. After eating half we put the tray outside our room and contacted reception. The next morning we moved the same tray to the table at the end of the corridor and top of the MAIN stairs. When we checked out the next morning, we took a photo of the now PILE of empty plates from guests that just sat there like a fly covered monument to the total disregard for customers well being and total lack of care. In total our 2 night stay was $570. We paid for the best style of room, the photos looked great. They just did not exist. It was shocking. Very shocking. If you are attending a large private function...you may get lucky. Otherwise prepare to be very very disappointed.

We discovered we had left our credit card. They found it. 5 hours later another charge for the whole amount was attempted. Only Barclays in the UK prevented them double charging us. I had paid in full in cash. On video thankfully.

Overall it was a really bad time. Not relaxing, workmen starting at 7am etc. Staff often acted very arrogant and would take ridiculous amounts of time to do even the most basic requests. Breakfast is a waste of time. You get bread and eggs, and charged $20!

Suffers from it's own size, not enough staff, terrible food.

This is a great place for a relaxing lunch not far from Cuenca.  The grounds are beautiful, and if it is a nice day, eating on the patio is refreshing.  When they have a buffet, the selection is adequate, and the setting is hard to beat.
