I stayed here in 2018 and absolutely loved the spa and all the staff.  Must do the spa services.  The pool was soothing. I met a lady who ended up being a dear friend here who was also traveling alone.  We enjoyed some outings arranged by the hotel and had such a great time and experience.  Such a peaceful place to stay!

Beautiful Place - Lovely Staff

Highly recommended for couples. Check out their special room for couples. Room had great view, very artistic finishings, great service and food (I recommend the filet minion or chicken a la plancha). Peter and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful especially during the COVID 19 crisis.

Awesome stay for our honeymoon!

The location is close to the wonderful community of Vilcabamba.  The resort itself has a very good restaurant which includes breakfast each day.  Other meals are available at an additional charge.  The staff are friendly and helpful to all your needs.  It has a large deck where all guests may gather for meals or to just enjoy the most peaceful, beautiful view.  Many rooms have small individual decks.

Excellent in all ways.

Perfect place for a short or long term stay.  Beautiful grounds, plenty of privacy and fantastic views.  The owners and staff were very friendly as well.  We loved the optional SPA services and outdoor dining area.  Perfect place for breakfast and dinner.

Perfect 3 day mini vacation

We stayed in room 19 which is not quite at the top of the hill but the next level down - only 50 stairs to climb! The views were good and worth the hike, the grounds are amazing too, make sure to notice the plant life. The room was clean and comfortable. The wifi was spotty at times, but we didn't go there to be connected so it was totally fine. Some guests were able to work remotely during their stay. The rooms stay cool during the day and the blankets kept it nice and cozy at night. We enjoyed the use of the beautiful pool (it's not heated) once it got hot out, we also played ping pong in evening and played cards in the common area. There are hammocks conveniently  placed throughout the resort so you can find one near people or by yourself when you want to rest or just enjoy the view and the wonderful weather. We had breakfast and dinner cooked for us at the resort. All meals were fantastic,  you may even be able to help plan the menu a day ahead. We were also given great suggestions for lunch ideas. One day we drove out to a local trout farm! The hosts were great, easy to talk to and full of suggestions.

The resort is walking distance to Vilcabamba if you want to visit town and buy souvenirs or walk along the river.

This little piece of heaven is definitely on our list of places to return to in Southern Ecuador.

Awesome place for rest and relaxation!

We are in southern Ecuador for an extended period and were looking for a place to escape and relax for a week. Madre Tierra was recommended to us by a friend and the experience did not disappoint!  

They focus their offerings on folks who want to stay a week or longer and have some guests who have been there for many months.  The place is rustic and quaint, but still has all the modern amenities. We stayed in room 9 at the top of the hill (it’s a hike) which had a nice patio with a table and sweeping views of the valley below—a great location to hang out, play cards, have a snack, or read a book.  The room came with comfortable beds and a hot shower, and the cool Vilcabamba night air was perfect for a great night’s sleep.

They can schedule a variety of spa services on site for very reasonable prices. The property also has a small pool that is fed by a nice waterfall feature. The pool is on the cold side so it is best reserved for particularly hot afternoons.  There is also an activities room that doesn’t seem to get much use but has a ping pong table as well as projection and audio equipment to do a movie night. Overall, the property is lush with foliage and very peaceful, it is just a great place to unwind. For those who need to work when travelling, Internet quality was generally very good.

The personal cook option is really excellent and I would recommend eating most meals on the property. In the morning they offer a bunch of breakfast options and really good coffee.  Dinners are creative, hearty, freshly cooked and delicious!  Basic bar fare is also available.

A mile away, Vilcabamba is a sleepy little town that is good for an afternoon stroll, and there is plenty to explore in the surrounding valley; consider having lunch at the Trout Farm in San Pedro and your fish will go from pool to plate in under 15 minutes. Some food options you might consider in Vilcabamba include: fish tacos at Agave Blu, yucca fries UFO, fudge at Beverly Hills Cafe, and baked goods at La Baguette.

I highly recommend Madre Tierra for extended stays in southern Ecuador!

Great for extended stay

There are times in which you experience something that you simply struggle to explain in words so others understand your experience.  I struggle to find the words to explain our stay at Madre Tierra.  I will do my best but could simply state this: When you arrive, your heart simply knows that you are home.  

My husband and I stayed at Madre Tierra for several days and it was amazing.  When we arrived the first day we said, "it can't get better than this!". Then the next day it got better and the next day even better and by the third day I told my husband that this place was so unique that words could not describe what we were experiencing.

Gail and Pete are simply the BEST hosts one could ever ask for.  Every staff member was warm, friendly, caring and were vested in doing their very best to provide us an excellent stay and experience.  The private chef who cooked our meals amazed us at each and every meal.  The food was fresh and flavorful.  

We were part of a group of 4 couples that decided to escape for a few days and enjoy each others company and little did we know we would find new friends and a further extension of our Ecuadorian family.  

If you are considering Madre Tierra, simply go.  You will NOT be disappointed.  We live only a short drive away from Madre Tierra and I assure you, that we are already discussing our next trip.

Simply THE best!

A really beautiful place to stay with an amazing view to the surrounding mountains. Comfortable rooms which are cleaned every day. Great health facileties with pool, steam sauna and different types of massage on offer. Delicous breakfast and great friendly service all around. Highly recommended!

Beautiful

The place is amazing with a very nice view, the food and the service are ok. It's a good place if you are traveling with your partner and want to rest. The place is not family or kids friendly, the pool is cold and there's no place a kid can play.

Good but not kids friendly

We spent 3 nights at Madre Tierra and found it to be a wonderfully relaxing resort. Peter, Gail and their team made us feel immediately welcome. They were very helpful with arranging transportation into Vilcabamba and for our return trip to Cuenca. The resort grounds are beautiful with stunning views of the valley and mountains. The room was super clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant provided a good variety of delicious choices - all freshly prepared.  If you are looking for a place for rest and relaxation, we highly recommend Madre Tierra.
