La casa de Matilda was my best experience in Ecuador. I was planning to stay one night and I stayed one week. I found there everything I was looking for: a nice place, amazing people, (Ivan the owner is a lovely person, he will make you comfortable and always willing to share with you and improve your stay), stunning view, good kitchen, very good wifi (getting good connexion was never easy for me in ecuador), comfortable bed, clean, etc.
The decoration is lovely, you can notice that this place was made with love.
The thing about this place is that you feel like at home.
If you are looking for authenticity and sharing with local and backpackers that is the place to be !
(And if you like cats and dogs then you’re in heaven)

Authentic, relaxing and good people

I really enjoyed my stay at Casa de Matilda! Mariana and Ivan a so nice and the hostel is very cosy (there is only six beds in total) with a beautiful view. One night we even had a bum fire in the garden. Thank you so much, I'll come back!

Very relaxing place!

This hostel is a great place to stay. The hosts are amazingly kind and helpful. The location is great, about 10 minutes walking distance from the main plaza, quiet, and with a beautiful view on the valley. The accommodation is basic, but the rooms are cozy, and you have access to a fully equipped kitchen. The breakfast at an additional cost of $3 is great and you can choose among american, continental, vegetarian, and Matilda. The Matilda breakfast is a large omelet with cheese and vegetables - incredibly delicious! They also sell home made Alfajores and the Coffee is locally produced and roasted directly in the kitchen. There are a couple of good hikes that start close to the hostel including a hike to Mondango Hill and the Palto Waterfall. 

Cozy place with scenic views on the valley

The bathroom separate from the dorm smelt as if the cats and dogs were also using it. This place is not clean!
The volunteer in charge sat around talking mostly, and often gave negative condescending remarks. Could have been so much nicer, potential there just lacks care!

Missing its potential

Don’t stay here. It was the worst night of our trip. The bed was terrible, the room was not clean and people were partying loudly until 7am. No sound protection whatsoever. Shame, as it is a beautiful spot.
