We stayed for two nights and had a great time. Obviously the lodge is isolated which is part of the experience so make sure your transfer driver is aware of the terrain beforehand! Rosa and Christian are super friendly and helpful and our guide Luke was great fun to spend time with. We are not ‘twitchers’ but appreciate all different forms of nature so really appreciated the whole experience. We especially loved all of the hummingbird activity and hikes at different times of day. The ladies in the restaurant are charming and warm..thankyou.
Our room in the German house was as expected..only a new shower head would improve it. We would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Ecuador.

Unique experience

We were a party of 8, including 3 kids who can be picky eaters at home but absolutely loved the food and rated each meal better than the last. The hikes were well paced for our diverse ages, kids, parents and active grandparents. The viewing stations attracted many different birds, hummingbirds.  Two tayras (giant bushy tailed weasel/badger) stopped by to grab a banana from the bird feeding station. We also saw a kinkajou and of course, the olinguito visited each night. We stayed in the new Montane Vista units, very clean, spacious and comfortable - a little piece of paradise high on a ridge in the middle of the cloud forest. All of the staff were accommodating and pleasant.  Transportation from Quito to the Lodge was included in our price. The roads are winding at times and the last portion is rough - we were extremely pleased with our excellent driver. Could not have had a better experience - the kids all said they hope to come back again someday!

What an amazing experience! The lodge is stunning, the guides are incredibly knowledgeable and all the staff go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. I felt like I’d stepped out of this world and entered another one for my overnight stay. Just an incredible place and congratulations to Richard and his team

The Most Beautiful Place

We spent two days here and it’s a beautiful location for nature and birds , the guided walks are so good and knowledgeable so many different birds.
Credit to all the staff who are so helpful and feeding the hummingbirds was such a privilege.
The lodges are wonderfully located taking advantage of its natural environment and the food was delicious

Wonderful Location

Wonderful few days in peaceful surroundings. Fantastic guided walks and amazing birdlife. We spent 3 days here up in the cloud forest. So peaceful and tranquil. We were lucky to have such a brilliant guide who was incredibly knowledgeable and great company!

Wonderful location with fabulous wildlife

Actually we were there February of 2018 - but I can't find my review that I thought I wrote after our visit, so adding one now because Bellavista is such a special place.  The hospitality and staff were the best!  The nature walks and birding was excellent.  The food was great.  The people we met while we were there were fun companions with whom to see the sites.  I highly recommend Bellavista!  As a prelude to our 9 days in the Galapagos, these two experiences together car my best trip eve! 

I love Bellavista!!

A remote lodge in the middle of the cloud forest northeast of Quito. Guides are very knowledgeable about birds, insects and plants you encounter.  Good and staff of the hotel are very good and helpful. The perfect place to see birds and other wildlife (giant earthworms!)  especially in the rainy season (not now in July). Not far from Mondo which has many fine tourist activities. The only caution is that the road to the lodge is an easily driven bumpy gravel road not suitable for anyone who might get carsick.

Cloud Forest Experience 

After a gruelling flight to Quito from Bombay, and the drive straight from the Airport, Bellavista in the Cloud Forest was a welcoming haven!
The place is lovely, beautifully and thoughtfully appointed; the staff wonderful, the food delicious!
Hummingbirds hum around, adding considerably to the charm of the beautiful place!
I saw a Masked Trogon, actually managed to get him on my cell, Toucans, also the elusive Kinkaju!
There are naturalist guides to guide you on hikes around.
The owner, Richard Parsons is charming, helpful and very knowledgeable.
A wonderful welcome to Ecuador, thank you!

A welcoming Haven 

Pros - fantastic location and views, great birdlife and wonderful walking trails.

Cons - the lodge is looking tired and clearly has had little refurbishment/investment over the years. We had arranged a private bird guide from a separate company who came / stayed with us - had it not been for him we would have found the experience impersonal as the staff did not go out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

The rooms are ok BUT make sure you take adequate clothing as the room does not have central heating and they only allow you to use the small fan heater provided for 2 hours at a time.

Food very average.


Great for cloud forest experience but...

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at BellaVista Lodge. Our room was a new room which we were the first to stay in. The view out into the forest from the room was stunning. It was lovely to just sit on the balcony and enjoy the Birdlife. Another highlight was sitting watching the hummingbird feeders which were constantly busy with hummingbirds. The cock of the rock trip was amazing and well worth it. We saw so many and the noise of the birds was incredible. Our guide was Luis who was great at providing information about the flora and fauna of the area. Would thoroughly recommend here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
