We stayed at this hostal this past weekend and had the worst rest of our lives. Granted the room was clean and the hot water worked. The bed/pillows made our back and heads hurt. There was a rooster and a dog howling all night. The walls paper thin so you could hear everything. The front desk guy was super nice and let us check out after the Ecuadorian soccer game to which on Sunday the owner said “checkout is at 12” and we responded that the front desk guy allowed us to check out later because of the game. And she responded to “well that owner is me” just plain rude. Would absolutely not recommend this place.

Noisy and lack of communication

Travelled to Olon to experience the beautiful coast, and I found this beautiful little paradise of a hostal online. I stayed for a month and couldn't have chosen a more lovely, peaceful and safe place to stay. The Hostal is run by a lovely Italian couple, Patrizia and Nicola, that dedicate themselves to making sure everything is running smoothly and ensuring the customer has a comfortable and peaceful stay at their hostel. Both went out of their way daily to make my stay more special and were always smiling, open to having a chat, recommending trips and places to visit, and welcoming me every time I returned to the hostel from the beach. Both honestly radiate a lot of warmth, I would definitely return in the coming years to visit the two of them (and their adorable pets). 

All the personnel definitely added a lot to the overall experience and made me feel at home - they were always smiling and very caring.  Everyone at the hostal went out of their way to help and make my stay perfect. I had to unfortunately change the duration of my stay due to COVID-19 (one month instead of three) and the personnel there went out of their way to help me organise my trip back home (something I did not expect them to help me with) - very thankful to Patrizia, Nicole and Jorge (the hostal's admin). 

The hostal's rooms surround a beautiful garden filled with palm trees, flowers, and plants, with comfortable hammocks and hand-crafted wooden table and chairs - the perfect place to sit down and relax in the early hours of the hot afternoon or after dinner. My room was on the 3rd floor and had 2 double beds, it was spotless and spacious with a big tiled bathroom, comfortable double bed, and a balcony with stunning views of the sunset on the sea. Breakfast is not included in the price however is definitely worth having at the hostel - with fresh tropical fruit salads and smoothies available every day. 

Overall, the hostal is gorgeous and beautifully crafted, it genuinely exudes this tranquillity (something I find key when travelling abroad for such a long period) and peacefulness. Patrizia and Nicola made my stay very memorable and joyful, I would go again for the hostel itself but more so for the people there.

"Exceptional experience and stay at Hostal La Mariposa"

We stayed here for 5 nights. The rooms are simple and comfortable, and the whole place is spotlessly clean. There is a lovely garden with hammocks and seating - a perfect place to relax. The owners are warm and friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

Lovely hotel in peaceful Olón

Patrizia at La Mariposa is an exceptional person.  She is more than a great host.  She goes out of her way to help people out of the goodness of her heart.  The care she shows people extends to the loving and artful touches she puts into the beautiful hostal that she and Nicolas have created, you can even see it in how she treats her animals.  They make you feel at home in a way that is memorable.  The place is gorgeous, but the people make it a must-see.  

True Care

A friend of mine visited from the US and we did an overnight in Olon.  Stayed in a room on 3rd floor with two double beds and a fan.  The facilities are very clean and lovely.  Owner and staff very friendly and helpful.  Everything was great except - the beds.  I’m used to firm beds in Ecuador but these were downright HARD!  I tossed and turned all night and each time I woke up, I was more and more sore/stiff.  By morning I was exhausted and could hardly move.  Took me a while to realize it was the bed.  I felt like I’d slept on the floor.  My friend woke up and gave the same report.  I’ve stayed in many hostels in various places in Ecuador, and never had a bed be so uncomfortable.  Maybe it was just the room we were in, but I could not have spent a second night there had we planned to.  I really should give 3 stars, because after all, your night’s sleep is the most important part of a hostel.  But the people and facilities were both so lovely, I stuck with 4.  However, not sure I would risk a return experience.

All good, but one thing

I have spent almost one week at Mariposa Hostal in January 2020 and I was very happy with my choice! Everything is very clean, my room had a ventilator (which in olon is very welcome) and the breakfast is nice! Very good value for money!!! And the Italian owners are also really nice with theirs guests!

Very Nice!!!

Incredibly friendly staff that helps you even before you can ask a question. A very warm, welcoming and atmospherid place. The hammocks in the garden are great to relax and the tables (with plugs nearby) provide a great working space. Prices are really fair when you consider what you get in return. 5 stars!

Excellent

Very clean place, friendly atmosphere. The owners are always aware of the customer's needs. We use to have breakfast everyday, and they were always waiting for us, with a smile and a good spirit. Thank you Patricia, Nicolas and Team, for giving us a place to feel home everyday in Olón!

A hostal like home...

Stayed with them for three nights and will definitely come back. The owners made me feel like family every moment.  Nice rooms with great AC. Caring staff great location a minute to the beach and next to restaurants.
Best hotel in Olon.

Comfortable oasis

We came here to spend one night and move on. We spent our one night and quickly decided to stay a week. The owners of the hotel are so welcoming and made it feel like home away from home. Definitely the best place I have seen around this area. The owners speak English, Italian and Spanish.
