Trudy and Ivan are the very welcoming hosts of Hostal Cattleya in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island.  Ivan met us at the ferry which was very helpful because we might have had difficulty finding the hostal which is very conveniently located on the same street as the naval base.  It is within easy walking distance of the town, the ferry landing, restaurants and stores.

The rooms are spacious, clean, and ours had a view of the bay.  Breakfast times are flexible and arranged with Trudy who provides cereal, eggs, yogurt, coffee and various teas.  On Christmas eve breakfast she gifted us with cookies she had made from the recipe of her grandmother, Margret Wittmer, one of the original settlers from Germany and author of the book of her adventures titled "Floreana."  We had read and enjoyed the book so we were pleasantly surprised by meeting one of Mrs. Wittmer's descendants.

Ivan was a wonderful source of local information on tourist sites, restaurant recommendations and even took us to his hairdresser so my husband could have a haircut.  

Filtered cold and hot water was available in the shared common area.  There was also a large refrigerator where we kept cold drinks.

We would be happy to return to the Cattleya.  Thank you Trudy and Ivan.

Christmas cookies in San Cristobal

The owners don't speak a lot of English but are extremely helpful and welcoming. The lady laid out a map of San Cristobal when we arrived and showed us various spots which really helped us get our bearings. She also had breakfast ready for us at the time that she'd asked us we'd want it for. You can use the kitchen facilities and there's a tank of water you can refill your water bottle on which I thought was very handy. Overall had a lovely stay here and San Cristobal was our favourite island (we also visited Santa Cruz & Isabela). There's plenty to do and see on your own here which we really enjoyed :)
