I spent 3 nights in this hostel, everything was perfect, cheap price, good staff and Jorge is really nice to talk with.
The hostel is near to lots of bar if you are into that and is not far from museums old town and botanical gardens!

Friendly and cozy

I have no idea how or why this place has such good ratings. We had a terrible one night stay here and we were so glad it was only one night.

The showers were ice cold and the bathrooms were so mouldy and in need of repair. None of the bathrooms had soap in the dispensers. I know it’s only cheap but come on, that’s basic.

The bedrooms. Wow. Where do I start. Our 4 bed mixed dorm was very small and there was no air so it was so muggy. The beds were arguably the worst I’ve stayed in after traveling South America for 2 months. They squeaked so loudly whenever you moved an inch and the mattresses were unbearably uncomfortable. They also shook from side to side whenever you moved, and I had someone sleeping in the bunk below me so it felt like I was on a small boat all night. You don’t get a duvet, you get 2 thin blankets so we were very cold all night. They also weren’t long enough for my 6ft3 body.

The noise from the room is also just silly. The hostel is located near a main road and all the traffic noise blasts through the thin windows. We didn’t sleep a wink basically all night. However this wasn’t helped by a staff member sat on his phone outside the room all night, coughing so loudly every 30 seconds. It was only at 4am when I lost my temper, moved off the squeaky shaky bed and told him to move to somewhere else.

We paid $2 for breakfast. Here’s a tip - don’t. It was a wet omelette on an un-buttered piece of bread with a slice of avocado. Not worth it whatsoever.

The only upside we saw was that the staff are quite friendly and I suppose it is super cheap. But there are definitely 100% better hostels to stay in Quito (Secret Garden, Community) which are better value for money.

All in all, don’t stay here.

How on earth has this got good ratings

I am really surprised by the high ratings of this hostel. What I nice about this hostel is that it is clean and it is located very close to Plaza la Foche. 
What I didn't like: the standard of this hostel is low. The whole place is old and outdated, the standard of the room is low, with old carpeting, the whole place have a pretty odd layout. The Internet is slow and spotty. I was staying at a different hostel and there was no problem with the internet so it is not a Quito thing. Most people who work there are very nice but don't speak English (except of the lady who seems to manage this place, and one of the employees). They were not able to provide much information about the day excursions, something that I value the most when I travel and stay in different hostels. Within first 30 minutes of being in a hostel I can find out about all the best things to do, and all the excursion available. Not here. I asked to order a taxi in the morning, the employee didn't schedule it, and then in the morning (5am) the number he had was not responsive and he didn't know what else to do. I ended up catching one on the street, not a big deal, but there are a lot of things happening here that in a non-issue in other hostels. 
There are so many fantastic hostels in Quito: Community Hostel (great common area, very nice standard, internet, very good food, organized trips); also other travelers were very happy with the Secret Garden and Selina. I wouldn't have chosen this place to stay if I hadn't paid for it over the internet and couldn't get a refund. This place may get high ratings for location (you can hear a lot of honking cars at night) but that's about - in my experience

There are much better hostels in Quito

Had a great stay at colour house petit, private room was lovely, breakfast was cooked each morning and every morning was different - delicious!

The main man Jorge could not have been more friendly, suggested spots we should check out and advised us when to be careful going out around Quito.

Can't recommend this hostel enough. Love you Jorge!

Fantastic hostel - Jorge is a legend!

Ideally located near a town square with a lot of bars, restaurants and people. The people at night can be a tad dodgy. Staff is fantastic. Will do anything you need. Rooms are average. The bunks could be in a little better shape, but it is okay. Wifi is not very strong and annoying. All cash, and had an issue with accounting on check-out, so be patient.

Solid Spot

Spent a few nights here, lovely staff really helpful and cheery. Nice simple breakfast, so drinks for sale. Nice comfortable bed and clean bathroom in a private room. Would definitely stay here again if I visit Quito. Close to lots of bars and restaurants in a safe neighbourhood. 

Great place!

I stayed here for a night when I was in Quito. The guy that works there who is from Venezuela was very nice and friendly. He made sure I got everything I needed and gave me tips when he saw me leaving the hostel to go explore. I also got to meet a few people at the hostel and we went to a nice club literally 2 mins away from the hostel by foot. The guy from the hostel gave us wristbands that got us I nto the club for free and we got a free drink! 

Overall, great experience. Bathrooms were clean, breakfast was alright, and the bedrooms were fine.
