We walked in and were immediately greeted by the staff. They were so nice. Our host spoke English and recommended some great alcoholic drinks and wonderful local food. It is also reasonably priced...I highly recommend this place. Before leaving, the host gave us a map and recommended some great places to see.

Friendly staff and great food and drinks!

We spent four nights in a top floor spacious room with ample light.  The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean.  We enjoyed a casual breakfast in the morning.  The owners were super kind and very helpful to us.  It was interesting to get to know them.  They went out of their way to make everything just right.  This is a centrally located hotel so you will hear city sounds.  That made it convenient to get to everything very quickly. I would definitely stay here again. It was cool inside, restful and you felt the old walls had many stories to share.

Classic Colonial style, comfortable, attentive owners and a terrific location

Lunch was great at this hostel- pretty setting and not busy at all. The food was good and reasonably priced.  My sister and I ordered arepas and my other sister ordered a meat dish. Both were good, and our bill with tip was $27.

Well located

We had booked through Agoda, however the confirmation email had incorrect dates. As we were nearby we popped in. At 3pm the place was deserted, the only member of staff available was part of the restaurant. Eventually we made ourselves understood (language barrier, no fault of the cook she was really nice, just our bad Spanish) and a member of the hotel staff was rung. Through the language barrier we got our dates sorted. The room we were give was huge, with a very comfortable bed. The shower however was a bit scary, with exposed wires running to the shower head from the wall. The rooms are on a gallery above the restaurant, which is open Wednesday through Sunday in the evenings. They blare music out until midnight, which we could hear loudly through the thin walls. We resorted to hanging duvets over the windows and doors and sleeping with ear plugs in. Breakfast the next morning was good, typical Ecuadorean fruit and eggs. When we tried to get the hotel staff to book us a taxi they tried to get us to use a hotel service that was easily twice the cost of the yellow taxi we ended up getting. We ate in the restaurant one exhausted evening, it was not good.

Noisy and disorganised

- when we arrived, the only person working there was about to leave and we were lucky to catch him before. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to enter our room.
- Once we had wifi we saw a mail and a whatsapp message from the owner who wanted to know when we arrived.  How many travelers have permanent internet access? So make sure you tell them beforehand when you come - otherwise you might find an empty/closed hostel.
- booking.com says there is a 'fully equipped kitchen'. However, there were no cutleries and no stove/oven. This was very frustrating since having a kitchen was one of our main criteria for chosing this hostel.
- The note in the room says check out time is at 2pm. When we got back to the hostel at 12.30pm the owner was asking if we wanted to stay one more night and then got mad and claimed that check out time is 12pm, that this is the case in every hostel and that we should hurry up.When we pointed out that the note said 2pm, she snapped at us and just said yeah well it's a spelling mistake ('mal escrito'). 
- wifi doesnt work.

Overall a very bad experience. No kitchen, no staff around, and very unfriendly owner who has probably never heard of the word costumer service. 
We dont recommend it, there are nicer and waaaay cheaper places in the old town.
