Stayed here for 5 nights and loved every minute of it!! The pool was nice, with shaded tables to hang out around, the breakfast was good and the showers were not salt water!! The room was clean and big and we even had a private balcony. It does get busy on Saturday and Sunday but still a very enjoyable experience. We had a very relaxing time in this lovely fisherman village, very low key, just what we needed!

A perfect getaway

Although it's easy to call this place the best choice due to lack of options, the staff are warm and inviting which fills the gaps for me.

Under new ownership (2 years) the general state of maintenance leaves a little to be desired but the site is neat and mostly well groomed.

Make sure you specify air con if you require it although you will sacrifice the sea views as the upstairs units only have fans.  The AC is perfect.  

The pool is well maintained although heavily brominated.  

I Rated this place a 4* but set your expectations with the idea that this is a fishing village (a little rough but everything you need).

Best choice

Our stay at the Village Lodge was ok. 

We initially intended to stay at Casa Garrobo but when we checked it out, the pool was empty and covered with algae, so we looked for other options and found the Village Lodge. 

We stayed for 2 nights. 

The room we got was pretty basic. It had 4 single beds, AC, 2 ceiling fans, and a basic bathroom without hot water. 

The beds were pretty comfortable but the room wasn’t overly appealing so we spent most of our time out by the pool. 

The hotel’s wifi wasn’t fast but worked most of the time. The wifi was only available out at the restaurant/pool area and not in the room. 

The pool wasn’t super clean, but not too bad, and HEAVILY chlorinated. The kids loved it nonetheless. 

The restaurant has a very small menu and the food ranged from very good to very bad. They didn’t have a few of the items on the menu due to lack of ingredients. 

Breakfast wasn’t very good. The typico was super salty and the French toast was the worst meal I’ve ever eaten. The pancakes were the best of the breakfast options. 

The rest of the food was pretty good. The grilled chicken and shrimp ceviche were both excellent.

The hotel is right on the beach but the water out front is littered with rocks and all the fishermen’s boats are tied up making walking the beach nearly impossible due to all the moving ropes holding the boats to shore. 

Swimming is nice at low tide and when the wind is calm (in the morning). At high tide the waves crash very hard on shore and you can splash in them but swimming would be dangerous due to the surf and number of sharp rocks lurking below the surface. 

On the weekend the beaches are very busy with locals but during the week it’s a VERY sleepy little fishing village. During the week most of the businesses on the waterfront are closed so you almost HAVE to eat at the hotel. 

Ok stay in Los Cobanos

They have rooms and dorms, the price is average on the location but the dorms are very afordable comparing on the area, so don´t think twice about this place. Also in low season you can talk to the manager and negotiate the price, they where really cool with us, and provide us nive food and acomodation for a good price.

Relaxing time at Los Cobanos

We didn't stay here but booked a deep sea fishing expedition. It was amazing! Boat wasn't what we were expecting but still
Had a great time. Saw huge pods of dolphins, numerous sea turtles, huge jumping eagle rays and not to mention catching over 30 blue fin tuna!! Was an indescribable day, loved every minute!
