The room was comfortable 308 with a lovely bathroom but at the back of the hotel facing close up to what looked like a cliff edge so no view.did look in one of the sea view rooms which was lovely.  The lift which takes two is inadequate for the size of the hotel. At Breakfast it was near Impossible to call the lift.  The food buffet style was good  although a little rushed. Staff very efficient and friendly. Not suitable for disabled guests as very steep steps up to the hotel, not wheelchair accessible.  Overall our stay was great but wouldnt  recommend it to anyone who has poor mobility.

Absolutely loved our stay here! The hotel was spotlessly clean, the food was lovely and the staff couldn't have been more kind or attentive.
Our room was really spacious, I'd highly recommend staying here! We would definitely stay again! My only tiny gripe is that we were above the kitchen, so the room was unbearably hot at times plus the staff were very noisy outside around 6 a.m each day! But other than that we couldn't fault it.
Immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and really comfy beds.

Absolutely wonderful in every way!

Bed room suberb  Bath room Suberb  Breakfasts superb  Evening Meal  very good to Good.    the only problem was the large steps at the front of the house  the arkell bitter was 10p more expensive than in the queens Pub just down the riaD


the hotel was very confortable

We went on a coach trip and did not expect the room to be so spacious.  We also had a sea view and were on the first floor.  It was very clean and tidy.

The staff could not have been more attentive and helpful throughout our stay.  We would definitely stay there again.

A great place to stay while in Douglas

I have just returned after a five night stay with a coach party at the Rutland.  I had a really nice time.  The staff and the food were great.  My room was a decent size with plenty of storage and nice en-suite shower room.  I was at the back of the hotel so had no view so if I went again I would pay for a sea view, definitely would be worth it.  My room was very warm even with the windows open and fan on.  The only negative, but the group was warned, was the steps up to the hotel at the front which are steep and quite treacherous.  It was a nice walk along the prom to the centre of Douglas though a little far for some of the party.  Good place to stay when visiting the island.

Great hotel in ideal position

Hotel is mainly catered for coach parties so as a couple it didn't really suit us.   Hotel has the smallest lift I have ever seen,  big enough for 2 people at a push... as long as they don't have any luggage!  Used the stairs once, we were on the 4th floor and the corridors are very confusing, no signage to point you in the right direction ...  could be very dangerous in an emergency evacuation.  Room itself was comfortable and clean, complimentary toiletries not the best and the fans from the kitchen came on just after 6am which were very loud so not much peace and quiet.   Evening entertainment definitely an acquired taste  ... suited the coach parties I guess but glad we went out in the evening to be honest.   Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, although eggs were a bit dry after being under the heat lamps too long   Coffee a little on the weak side.
Nice enough hotel on the whole but won't be our choice when next visiting the Isle of Man 

Nice enough  but not for us

Stayed 5 nights on a coach trip & was very pleased with everything at the hotel. The staff ( & there were plenty ) were friendly, pleasant & efficient. We had a lovely sea view room with the usual tea making facilities, biscuits, iron & board & much needed fan as it was very hot weather. The food was very good & always hot, entertainment 4 nights a week. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

O complaints at all!

Lovely hotel,lovely staff,lovely room, all spoilt by the room, along with many others being over the kitchen fan. It makes a terrible noise not far off a jet engine and is on from early morning to about 9pm. Also the hotel has 4 floors and one two person lift which is not enough when you are in a coach party and all turn up at the same time. Shame really because it is a nice hotel.

Rutland hotel

This is 3 a star older terraced hotel catering primarily for coach trips. For this they are well set up. 

I would not choose this hotel if travelling independently. There is no on site parking and promenade parking is restricted. There is no garden, it provides the essentials. 

There is one small lift for 2/3 persons. Like some other hotels nearby the front steps are steep with risers 11-12”. Never seen this before, it is NOT suitable for people with mobility issues.
The corridors are narrow and it’s a bit of a warren inside. Our emergency exit door had a sign saying use an alternative. 

Our Room was clean and of good size as was the en suite shower. Our Bed was very poor just 5” foam flattened in places on a cheap solid base.

The Corridors and upper rooms can be  surprisingly hot. 
The Internet is up to 50mbps which is really very good for a hotel

Staff are multi national - they are not in career jobs.

Food at dinner is quite good though i think it is loaded with salt, we got very thirsty afterwards. One option is a simple carvery, gammon etc
An English breakfast is served quite acceptable. ( No muesli ). Tea is weak, coffee instant. 

Overall if you have no disability its not a bad hotel to roll up to in a coach trip. Just be realistic in your expectation.
Location wise its about a mile from the shops in douglas so allow 25-30 mins to walk up.

There is a bar which has a bit of music though there are a few alternatives within walking distance. Hotel wine runs at £20 a bottle , its a cheap plonk but ok as a table wine.
You never see a manager which i reckon is always a bit of a bad sign when they keep out of sight.

Why two star rating?, well if you have a sub standard bed and when you report it you can see it’s a familiar tale to staff and nothing is done…

Older hotel aimed at coach tourists

Lovely Hotel, with a warm welcome. The bedrooms for single person are good, clean fresh and welcoming. The meals, breakfast and evening meals are good, and you can have as much or as to little of the meal. This is a carvery resteraunt. There are steps up to the hotel entrance, take this into acount if you have mobility issues. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and issues contact the reception desk.
