It is important to appreciate that this place is not for everyone - first and foremost it is a health facility focusing on the restorative benefits of fasting and body detox. Therefore, do not come here unless you are committed to their body detox regime and fully understand the routines that are followed here - they are fully explained on their website.

The BioSpa is a well-run and professional operation. This is not a large facility with a max of approx 30 guests at any one time

The accommodation was very comfortable. I stayed in a superior double room which was spacious, clean and comfortable. The room felt recently renovated and had a calm scandi-design feel to it. The bathroom had a shower only, which was more than sufficient for my needs. There is excellent WiFi throughout.

The rest of the faculty includes a number treatment rooms, a pool and extensive outdoor space. When I was there in January, there was significant snow cover across the grounds. Outdoor exercises in the morning were refreshing but walking was more difficult due to ice on the ground.

The program includes a number of daily therapies as part of the package and other treatments can be organised at additional cost. Extra costs are much less than at similar facilities in the U.K., Austria or Germany. I thought all the treatments were well organised and professional.

English is definitely not the commonly spoken language here so it can be hard to communicate with some of the staff. Most of the guests were from the Estonia or Latvia. 

All in all this is an excellent option if you are looking to kick-start a more healthy lifestyle or a general detox.  Certainly it is much better value for money compared to similar program in Austria or the U.K.

For me it was great but  it’s probably not for everyone.

Great... but not for everyone....

If you're searching for a retreat that offers the right combination of curative fasting and dieting, natural surroundings, indulgent massages, health and beauty treatments, a swimming pool, sauna, yoga and gentle workout classes, look no further than Loodus Bio Spa. This year marked my 4th or 5th visit at Loodus Bio Spa , and every time the trip is worth it. 

I especially want to highlight Dr. Natalia, who is an absolute gem. Her expertise and holistic approach helped me gain a deeper understanding of my health issues and develop a comprehensive plan to address them. Her guidance and support were invaluable to my journey towards better health.

Great place for curative fasting and dieting programs

On my approach to Loodus BioSpa I sensed straightaway that the energy of the place was right, I was overwhelmed by the quiet grace of the countryside that surrounds the facility – empty country road lined with various majestic trees, including beautiful linden trees, fields of golden rye interspersed with Estonian national flower- humble blue cornflower, sweetly scented white phloxes that reminded me of my childhood summers with dear late (great) grandmother and by silver birch trees that were humming harmoniously with the birds and crickets. During our many walks, with or without nordic poles, especially early in the morning and late in the evening – in the golden hour, when sun was low, the beauty of this magnificent landscape, was breathtakingly beautiful. Environment matters and it was so peaceful, tranquil and nurturing!

I had booked onto 7 day fasting/detox programme. I was aware of the benefits of fasting and did not need much convincing, as I have been meaning to do it quite some time. Also I was professionally interested, what treatments were on offer etc. I must say I was not disappointed, on the contrary I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of the treatments and excellent customer service. Every team member I met switched easily and rather impressively between 3 languages- Estonian, Russian and English. Interior design was more clinical than I was used to, nevertheless I loved all the houseplants, which made it more homely. Thank you to the houseplant fairy!

I easily lost 4.5 kg, as I result of the programme, however that was just a bonus. My main goal was to rest, that is to really REST in every aspect of the word- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. I wanted to give our second brain, which is the gut, a break, a cleanse, so the microbiome, where our immune system and intuition lives, gets a new lease of life, in order to be healthier and make better choices and decisions. 

What we feed our body/mind/spirit as “fuel” and the quality of this “fuel” and the environment/people that we expose us to, is so important to our overall well-being. I felt this tender loving care emitting from every member of the team at the BioSpa, and I am so deeply grateful. You don’t have to share a room, however, I did and turned out that I had the best roommate ever, fabulous creative inspirational person, salt of the earth, full of life and wisdom that I resonated with immediately! Together we enjoyed the breathwork exercises early in the morning, barefoot grounding on soft dew covered green grass, followed by cold water immersion and foot reflex stimulation. We enjoyed identifying plants and trees during our morning sensory Nordic pole walk. Even found wild strawberries, wild hops, lots of various wild flowers and creatures. What a diverse delight! We swam with the fishes in refreshing outdoors ponds surrounded by reeds rustling in the winds and bright blue dragon flies. 

The place is well run, 24/7 medical supervision, wonderful extensive list of treatments and physiotherapist run exercise classes available, Thank you all! I met some amazing people and kindred spirits. I can honestly say that I have my spark re-ignited, a new spring in the step, full of motivation and tips how to live more healthier life. I feel more balanced, rejuvenated, invigorated and lighter. After all, everyone knows- you can’t pour from an empty cup. I will be back, that’s for sure! I recommend BioSpa healing centre to everyone- you won’t regret it!

Magical healing centre set in beautiful countryside

The rooms were perfectly clean. Homely and cozy atmosphere. Located in the middle of beautiful nature. The staff is caring and professional, they pay attention to details. All the necessary conditions have been created to comfortably strengthen health.

Me, being an active creative person, time to time need to slow down and spend time alone with myself and my health. I need only a week in the naturopathic center of special treatments developed by Dr. Natalia Trofimova to feel much better. 

I am grateful to Dr. Trofimova for an individual approach to each visitor, a lot of my friends follow my recommendations for years to visit the clinic and feel so good after the variety of procedures and the composing with a special detox program. After a week of rest and relaxation at the naturopathic center, I always feel better and have the energy to carry out all the projects I have planned.

Getting more energy trough …starving? 

7 days without food? Yes, this is possible and you will even enjoy it!
Out there is one place, where you can have very different experience.
Fasting. Seven. Days. No. Food.

Loodus Biospa is locating in Estonia, near Tartu. It is unique in whole Baltic and Scandinavia area.

I heard about this place form a guy who told he visits this place every spring to get extra energy. Since he was respected architect, I had no doubt in his mental condition. 
One day I just booked the full package- 7 days fasting. Then I had no other choice than go.

This is not another woo doo place. Dr. Natalia Trohimova, who has been dealing wish fasting therapy more than 30 years, runs it. Sounds like lot of experience.
The place is easily reachable from Tartu. For people from Baltics, it makes sense to come by own car. Tartu in nice town to look around before or after your therapy. If do not have your own car, they offer transfer from Tartu at the beginning of you weekly session and after too.

In spite of it being not far from Tartu, Loodus Biospa is absolutely in the middle of the wonderful nature.

You can chose milder packages too, but I took the hardcore one- fasting 7 days. Well, the doctor actually decides if you are good enough for 7 days or just 3 days.
First thing you get while checking in is a half-liter water bottle with your first name and room number on it. This bottle will be your best buddy for the following 7 days. You have to refill it constantly and count how many bottles you consume. This help you to be on right track. You can fill it at table where you can find also hot water for making tea.

On your arrival, you are given small bag of bitter salt; you dissolve it in the water and drink it. This is the beginning of your cleaning process because in some hours’ time, you find yourself in the toilet and man…all you had in, comes out. Luckily not form mouth.
Which bring us to the very important tip. They are offering different packages- single room, double room, or … more people in one room. Price is, of course, relevant. 
You want to be in the single room, do not chose any other option although cheaper price may be luring.
Why, you may ask? Because you will have enema every morning and every evening.
Yes, two times a day. Do you know what enema is? They pump 1-liter water inside of you. Again, not from the mouth!

After that, you have around 5 minutes to find a toilet, which you will occupy for several minutes. It is much better not to share your toilet in such circumstances! 
You were given a personal bag, which you have to take with you every time you go to enema. Bag contains your personal device they are using. I did not feel I wanted to study the content of the bag more closely.

Sounds like …? Franky speaking, no.
First, you got medical check. Doctor measures you with a machine, which tells you exactly how fat you are, where the fat is etc. Really, cool report! Now you have to hope that at the end of your therapy some figures are better. I can already tell you in advance that they will! Cause you cannot eat a thing! Well, actually. You are allowed to have one cup of broth every lunchtime. Somehow, I missed that information at first day.

They keep you in action through the day. Every morning 8 AM, you find yourself with other fellow “sufferers” outside, doing breathing exercises. After that- Nordic Walking. They tell you should cover around 10 km each day! Surely, they teach you how to do it if you have not done it before. 

Since Loodus Biospa has fantastic surrounding, it also have well-organized trails for walking. Clear colors and arrows do not let you get lost. You can combine the trails to have your desired distance. They told you should do Nordic Walking 3 or 4 times a day.
Loodus Biospa staff keeps you busy through the day, so you have no time to think of food or feel starved. 

Everything Loodus Biospa is well organized. You will find your next day schedule on the white board every evening and you fulfill your personal planner accordingly.
They told the 3rd or 4th day could be most difficult. On 4th day, I had to take a small break and took my kids to Tallinn and back. In total 400 km and I was away from Loodus Biospa for eight hours. In addition, I missed my lunchtime broth this day too. I just equipped myself with plenty of water. 

While I was renewing my water reserves at gas station, girls bought chocolate muffins and ice cream cocktails. Of course, they consumed them in car and I had to cope with that. 
Then it was late lunchtime for the kids because day was long. We went into Lido restaurant, which is known that all food is immediately ready and displayed for customers. I had to stand in the middle of it and afterwards wait kids to finish their lunch. Guess what. Not even single mussel moved in my face. Yes, I felt as my salivary glands worked but – I felt quite nothing. Very strange.

There is one important procedure, which may scare you, but actually, this is quite ok. 
Deep Colona Cleaning. They have sophisticated machine compare to daily enema device you carry in that plastic bag.
They will pump into you around 2,5-liter water. Then if flows out. You and you therapist can see what is coming out. As you have not eaten for several days by now, you can assume this is not the ordinary crap. What you see is why you are here at the first place. You see toxins and leftovers from your intestine. And it all can be washed out. 
They told they have found a coin, which grown up man had swallowed when we was child. A 10 m long ribbon and other interesting stuff. Crazy, ah?

You package contains massage every day for 25 minutes but you can upgrade it to 55 minutes.

Loodus Biospa has sauna, small pool and part of your 7-day therapy exercises are in the water.

The place is not only about therapies. It is also about the education. Every day you will have a lecture, on either live or on TV. Lecture about healthy nutrition and so on.
The range of the therapies are very wide and you can have every day several different treatments. For example, every noon time group gather into hall to have half an hour exercise or yoga. Exercises are not very difficult; some older ladies from then seventies took bravely part of these without no issues.

In Loodus Biospa, You can switch off completely form your everyday life.
If you cannot afford that, they have good free Wi-Fi and you are connected to the real world all the time.

Loodus Biospa staff speaks Estonian, Russian and English, so nothing will be lost in translation.

I am not a doctor to suggest you fasting. I am here to tell you about the place and the opportunity.

Getting more energy trough …starving?!

I’m currently here, on my 3rd day (out of 7) thinking about leaving earlier and the reason is not horrific food, which is kind of expected (but maybe not on such level still). More on that below.

Let’s start with good things. Area around the spa is beautiful and there are many walking paths here, so if you’re into walking - this is a nice place. It’s a shame that I didn’t bring a drone or something like a frisbee with me. Next good thing is procedures - massage is great, so is water treatment and other water activities. The selection is quite big, so I haven’t tried most of it, but what I did was good. And that is likely all when it comes to good things.

The list of “could be better” things is much bigger and it starts with the biggest problem in my opinion - lack of internal processes. Let me give you a few examples. When we moved in, one person told us that we’ll have 5 meals at specific times, another person told us that we’ll have 4 at different times. The information book (which the love to point their fingers to) states 5 meals, and they are much better than what they serve in reality. Reality is 4 meals at 9, 11, 14 and 16:30 in case you’re wondering. Those meals are, well, bad. I get the “diet” treatment while I don’t understand why even carrots and apples need to be turned into baby food. We’re not the only ones with teeth here - I checked. Then there is rudeness coming exclusively from the administrator. Procedures for the next day are shared with everyone at 6-8 PM each day. We saw ours yesterday and once we did - my wife cancelled one. One woman marked it down and haven’t shared it with the administrator, who came over today and almost started a scandal. According to her, you can cancel planned procedures 24h in advance, but that is impossible when you find out about then 16-20 hours in advance. Even though her colleague screwed up by not sharing anything - we’ll have to pay for something we cancelled. Great, isn’t it? No apologies were given too - their issues are our issues. Then there are rooms which haven’t seen any renovation for a very long time. Maybe that’s why they are building a new section right outside our window, so we’re enjoying some heavy machinery sounds as opposed to expected birds. So much for relaxation.

If you like finding out information bit-by-bit yourselves, if you prefer Middle Age style communication (rude) and if you haven’t tried baby food before - you’ll love it.

If those downsides don’t bother you and you simply want to have various procedures - it’s still worth visiting.

But if you are just like me - can’t stand rudeness, lack of any internal procedures (which causes most issues) and when people expect you to run around asking for instructions rather then giving them properly - I void avoid it.

I might come back if I start seeing good and informative reviews. Until then - Austria it is.

Quite decent if you’re into quest rooms and rudeness

Wonderful place to detox both your mind and body. The spa is located just outside of Tartu in a beautiful forested area - great for Nordic walking - and very well kept grounds. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, just note that if you don't want to share a room you must specify this.
