I booked directly and a year in advance as I thought that was the best thing to do.  Unfortunately, my husband broke his leg and we were unable to fly.   It took several emails before they responded. They wanted, and did, keep the whole £5000 (or there about) and refused to move the booking to the following year (even with an uplift).  It never occurred to me to check the cancellation policy as I have never cancelled a holiday before.  Make sure you are happy to lose your money before booking this hotel!   There are loads of other wonderful properties offering the same experience with decent cancellation policies.  Think twice before booking this one.

Very nice hotel, with various accommodation options. We tried several during our week as at the time of booking, the hotel was already almost full (do it well in advance if you want to increase your chances to have the same accommodation for your full stay). During the first part of our 7-day stay, our daughter was in a Wilderness Single Room, in the main building. Plus: the room is sufficiently spacious, well decorated and you don't need to put on your winter clothes to go to the restaurant. Minus: insonorisation is poor. 
My husband and I stayed in the Superior sauna room. Plus: huge room, bathroom and private sauna. Good insonorisation. We could honestly have all stayed in this room without walking on each other's feet.  Minus: can't think of any. 
The rest of our stay, we were staying all together in an Aurora Cabin, with a glass roof. This is - to my opinion - more an "influencer's type of accommodation". It is very trendy on Instagram but not very practical. It is fun to wake up at night and see the sky above your head but if you are more than 2 people, forget it. You won't be able to open your luggage in the room. Bathroom is very small, with no mirror. For two people, for one night, it can be fun. 
What makes Muotka amazing is the friendly staff and the perfectly organised activities (we booked the Winter Adventure Week package with winter overall, gloves and boots included). 
The food was excellent and varied. Not served at the table. It is a buffet. Muotka is in the middle of nowhere (which makes its charm). Don't expect to go shopping in the near village. Saariselkä, the closest place, is a 15-minute drive and is not worth it. So take the full board option. 
Wifi is only available in the main building. But who cares? This is such an amazing place that you don't need it!

Amazing Muotka

Great experience.  Very friendly and helpful staff.  Food was very good and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed the Lapland winter activities including snowmobile rides to see a reindeer reserve, dog sledding and of course viewing the Northern lights!

Interesting and fun getaway vacation spot

Just arrived at home after five days at Muotka with five activities. The entire trip was amazing. Fantastic hotel, food and especially the very helpful and nice staff made the stay something we will never forget. Did never see northern lights, but that was due to the weather.

Amazing experience.

Most of our family just spent six full days at this resort and had a wonderful time. I want to start by saying that the food was delicious and we always looked forward to the different menus. I would like to make some suggestions.  We would have liked to have seen the breakfast menu vary a little more.  Also with the lunch and dinner meals the prepared salad selections didn't have very good seasonings and seemed rather bland in flavor. We loved the Reindeer meals and the rotation of fish for the meals. The rooms that we stayed in were the glass windowed cabins. It was wonderful seeing the sky at night. The bathroom showers were not to our liking. Water from the shower would get all over the floor and there was not much area to keep our bathroom supplies in the cabinet. The room does not have any closets to hang clothes so everything we had, had to be put in the couple of drawers provided. The lighting in our cabins are poorly lit. The activities that we signed up to do were awesome: Reindeer sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, aurora lights were all great. The only activity that we didn't really enjoy was the ice fishing but it was still fun to be out in the snowmobiles. Our guide for everything but the ice fishing was Justin and we couldn't have been happier having him. He was like family to us and we so enjoyed his company. He always made us feel so welcome and he would check in with us often to make sure we were all OK doing the activities. I know I provided opportunities for improvement with our stay but I still gave them a 5 rating because we had such a wonderful time. 

Wonderful family vacation

We stayed in the aurora cabin, it was beautiful, clean, and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights from bed! 
The meals were delicious and there was lots of choice with dietary intolerances catered for. 
All the activities were very well run, lots of fun, and all the staff were lovely!

Amazing stay

Highly recommended. We spent 3 wonderful nights at this amazing destination. The location is spectacular, the staff were friendly and helpful, the excursions were great, the accommodation was comfortable, the service without fault and the food was scrumptious. An unforgettable and amazing experience!

A highly recommended and unforgettable experience.

Great location away from any town, but still close enough for options. Right on the cross-country ski trails with options for short or long loops in a beautiful national park. The Aurora cabins are quite small, but the view of the lights from a warm bed is worth it! The Panorama cabins are big and very nice.

The people in the Aurora cabin next to us had their brightest lights on until 1:30 AM one night, making it impossible for us to see any Aurora lights if they were there. I don’t know if there is a way to prevent people from using cabin lights so late.

Great visit for viewing the Northern Lights and cross-country skiing!

Stayed in the panoramic cabins. Cabins super spacious, comfy and warm. No Wi-Fi in cabins, a bit disappointing as my roaming cost is very high. The food was excellent, buffet style, plenty choices and delicious. Was lucky to see the lights once. Wonderful winter experience.
