Lovely old house with modern renovation, right in the historic old area. Great garden, common space, breakfast.
The bed in our room was up a narrow steep stair in the room which was fine with us, but might not suit someone with bad knees or who has to go downstairs to the bathroom multiple times.
We enjoyed three days without getting in a car, just walking around the old city and visiting museums, cathedral and other things on foot. 
Breakfast is excellent but mainly sweet/plain so we bought cheese nearby to have with bread and croissants. They provide baguette, croissant, fresh orange juice, coffee, tea and homemade yogurt, jam and granola/muesli. 
The proprietors Valerie and Pauline are very helpful, although at least one has limited English.

Lovely for walking right out the door

Le Jardin de Marie is a lovely 17th century building with a private garden, rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the living room/breakfast area is charming. Breakfast was delicious-- the best croissants, homemade yoghurt and cakes, bread and jams. The breakfast area/living room is available all day with a refrigerator and assorted teas. Marie is the perfect host, both welcoming and full of helpful information about sights to see and restaurants to visit. It was an ideal stay.

Loved this BnB! The family who run it are super nice and very helpful and their garden is a beautiful and quiet escape from the city. We loved our room. Breakfast at their place was totally lovely. However, on Wednesday it’s outsourced to a local bistro who aren’t particularly accommodating so if you want so
something other than croissant make other breakfast plans that day! (Ojus on town is great)

What a wonderfull welcome we had! We felt right at home...a peacefull piece of heaven...Well hidden in the narrow streets of Aix...combine this warm welcome with a great location, beautifull private garden and a copious breakfast and you got yourself a success formula...don't change anything!

Comming home

Great location in the Mazarin quarter, quick walk to Cours Mirabeau.  Spacious and relaxing common area & garden.  Very friendly and helpful staff. About a 15 minute walk from the Marseille airport shuttle bus stop at the Gare Routiere.  About a 2 minute walk to a stop for the bus going up the hill to Cezanne's studio.

The entry area has a low ceiling.  At just over 5'9" I was okay, but I would not want take taller people there. The upper level bed area of my room also had a low ceiling, and the stairway up is narrow.  Both my tall friends, and my wider-bodied friends would not care for this arrangement, although it was fine for me. The breakfast is usually available at 9 a.m. (With advance notice, some food will be set out the night before for those wanting to make an earlier start to the day).  For people traveling by themselves, please note that there is no overnight staff on location, although there are phone numbers that you can call if there are any issues.

Convenient, quirky, enjoyable stay

Perfect location in a very quiet neighborhood filled with gems, those 17th and 18th century elegant townhouses with lovely large and private gardens in the back. This area was originally built for the nobility and wealthy merchant class near the center of town. Visitors chez Marie are encouraged to relax in the garden as well as in the spacious but cozy living room where the abundant breakfast is served.  Marie, also a tourist guide, is a generous and  knowledgeable hostess, with extensive tips about the treasures of the town and the region. The Caumont Art Center and Granet museums are nearby as is the remarquable Planque Collection of 20th c. painting (part of the Granet, but exhibited in a nearby refurbished chapel). The small rooms are cleverly designed with a cozy downstairs sitting area and the sleeping loft accessed by narrow stairs. The loft ceilings may seem low to some, but it's due in part to the large hand hewn beams that are part of the structure of this 17th c. home. The modern bathrooms are very charming and functional. Highly recommended.

Wonderful, secluded b & b, a few minutes from the center of town

I had stayed at Marie's for two nights in February but decided to go again this September, staying there for 8 nights.
I was in Aix for work this time but added the weekend for pleasure.
The week was fabulous!

Marie's place has three rooms for guests, therefore it does not feel too crowded, - the rooms are lovely, with modern furniture, enough space to work a little (small table), and a mezzanine sleeping level. The place is clean and they are helpful with extra bedding or other requests. 

One small remark: I always left my window open during each night - on Friday and Saturday nights, the street can be a little louder because students might be walking home on the parallel street; maybe close the window those evenings ;-)

The whole place is still more like a proper chambre d'hote - allowing guests to have breakfast every morning. You can have this early (then Marie prepares everything in the evening) or you can join everyone around 9 o'clock to have a chat with other guests over fresh croissants. Breakfast also offers a lovely range of other things (jam, grilled baguette, yoghurt, cereal...)

There is a kitchen in the big living room where you have breakfast. However, you can also use the kitchen to prepare other food if you want to have a snack at home - though otherwise I would of course recommend the city with its great and wonderful range of restaurants, offering something for every taste and mood.

If the weather is nice, you might even want to sit at the table outside in the back garden of Jardin de Marie - a secluded gem. I sat there to get some work done in the evening sunshine (I can recommend chilling a bottle of wine before in the fridge, then everything writes itself so much easier).

Maris is a wonderful host, easy to chat to and very helpful, but she also respects your own space.

She will give you great recommendations in town, not only food-wise but also sights and vicinity... 

I can recommend the Drole Endroit restaurant, and the Entre midi et deux.
Also I went to the musée Caumont and the Musée Granet - check what exhibitions are on! Over the weekend, you can also take a bus towards the Montagne Sainte Victoire and walk among Cezanne's landscape... lovely.

I had a thoroughly wonderful stay - and would go again - also for such a long time!

Wonderful week at Jardin de Marie

Marie provides a very friendly welcome and will help with any questions as well as making some very helpful suggestions regarding your trip.  The house has a very attractive lounge, kitchen and garden and you are encouraged to treat these rooms and their facilities as your own.  Breakfast is normally provided by Florianne who is really charming and cannot do enough for you.  I feel that the location is perfect for a visit to Aix-en - Provence, being in a quiet spot and very close to Hotel Caumont and Musee Granet.  Would definitely recommend Jardin de Marie.

Very friendly accommodation in a house built in 1680

Would definitely recommend this place as it's a little gem. Marie is welcoming and very helpful, answering any questions or providing tips on places to visit. The garden is an oasis after a long day of sightseeing. 

Lovely stay

We stayed for two nights in February and it was the most beautiful experience. The rooms are lovely and functionally furnished but stylishly decorated. The main room (for breakfast and to linger) is giant and comfy with access to the garden (too cold in February but very inviting). Breakfast is superb - I want to go again! Merci Marie
