This is a 2-star hotel. It is a small hotel (maybe 17 rooms). It provides basic accommodation. The location, near the railway station, is fine. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast - additional charge - is (very) basic, and sort of expensive for what you get. The facilities - in the bedrooms, and in 'Le Patio' - are basic. The owners make an effort, which was pleasing.

Basic Accommodation

We stayed here  on the last day of our walk.  It is a small hotel with only a few rooms off the main drags in Ales.  There was a feria in town when we got there, so we were very happy to be away from the crowds!  A big plus is it is a 5 minute walk (at most) to the train station).  Our room was fine, the breakfast in the garden was very pleasant.  No dinner option, but plenty of places to eat in Ales.

The last days walk from Saint Jean du Gard to Ales on the GR70 was maybe the toughest day.  lots of up and down.  But it was around 84 degrees, so that may have been why it was so hard.  Was about 18 miles walking that day...which was our longest or second longest.  Ales was a convenient place to catch a train (we continued to Avignon) but if you are doing the GR70, would recommend ending in Saint Jean du Gard.

Convenient location, quiet, pleasant garden

A small hotel near the railway station. Fairly standard and bland rooms. But family run and run with care and pride. The owners are so friendly. They recommended a good restaurant with extras for visitors of the hotel. If you don’t mind luxury but prefer hospitality and kindness, this is the place. Breakfast in the patio.

Very friendly and helpful

Gorgeous welcome by Hotel Durand's new managers. Though located in Alès station area the hotel is very quiet. The hotel keepers are very helpful in all kinds of respects. Where to eat, storage room for the bikes, change of bedroom because I'm rather tall.
Breakfasts are taken in the patio and are ok.
The owners have started refurbishing the rooms. The works will resume after the high season.
To be recommended.
