The Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys committed fraud against my wife and I, and when I asked for our stolen money to be returned, the hotel manager accused me of blackmail and claimed that I routinely stayed at hotels without payments. Such statements are dishonest lies.

My wife and I traveled to the Loire Valley in France with a tour operator who committed heinous crimes against us. That operator stole more than $29,500 from us and illegally threatened to have me jailed if I did not pay another $5000. This attempted extortion and jail threat occurred in the lobby of the Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys. Although Luxury Tours France (Riverloire Loire - Valley Day Tours) was the lead criminal in these extensive frauds, the Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys committed further crimes against my wife and I.

Since my wife and I were suddenly without a place to stay in a foreign country, we then double-paid to stay at this hotel. The hotel had contracted with the tour operator, and I previously had not been allowed to contract directly with the hotel.

Since the contract was originally between the hotel and the tour operator, and I had paid twice for the same stay, I asked the hotel to return our money. The hotel refusal to pay back this money constituted theft.

When I asked the hotel to return the stolen money, the hotel manager accused me of blackmailing him, and stated that I was a manipulating specialist who refused to pay hotel bills. That is, he accused me of theft. This libelous statement is a blatant lie. I have paid every hotel bill for every hotel stay in my life, where I have traveled four to ten weeks a year for nearly twenty years. There was no blackmail, which was proven by the fact that an FBI (Consumer Fraud Protection Bureau) investigation resulted in the return of this money stolen by the hotel ($1018) to my wife and I, and this lack of blackmail was further proven by the return of more than $23,000 from the tour operator.

FBI reports, bank records, and internet OpEds that I wrote thoroughly document these crimes. Copies of these reports and Op Eds were sent to the Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys and the Content Integrity department of TripAdvisor. Tripadvisor had blocked my trip review publications, and when these documents were provided, TripAdvisor allowed me to publish trip reviews. TripAdvisor does not endorse my statements per policy, but I have presented the facts.

The Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys will steal your money and then accuse you of blackmail and theft.

This is a quaint hotel in beautiful Amboise, The staff was wonderful. We loved our room (patio suite room on 1st floor). We had a fantastic view of the chateau from our terrace, where we enjoyed wine and cheese each evening. I highly recommend this room which is huge and had plenty of closet space. The hotel is so walkable to many restaurants and shops and the beautiful Chateau de Amboise. Wished we could have stayed longer as this place felt like home.

Hotel Le Pavillon Des Lys was exactly what we had hoped for in Amboise

We really enjoyed this hotel.  The location was excellent - an easy walk to the sights and cafes in town.  The room was large and the a/c worked well during very hot weather.  Free parking was fantastic!  Breakfast was great and the staff was super helpful in booking us dinner reservations especially on Sunday and Monday when a lot of places were closed.  Thanks so much!

Lovely hotel in a great location

Very happy with our one night stay. The 'tradition' room was big enough and good value. The hotel lists the room sizes on the website, so no excuse for grumbling! The bathroom was nice, everything was clean. The bed was big and very comfortable. The central location is exceptional, and the on-site parking was easy and convenient. Our car is 1.8m wide and we didn't have any problem with the gate width. 


Location and parking are excellent

The photos looked beautiful.  Unfortunately it is nothing close to the photos.  The rooms are cramped, damp and need a renovation. We could not believe this was the same hotel which had looked so charming.  Union e testing the room we noticed the water bottle was half drunk.  Not a good sign.

Don’t believe the reviews- this is a 2 star hotel

Beautiful boutique hotel in an old manor house in a great location right in the centre of Amboise.  Superbly located for exploring this pretty Loire town.  Convenient private parking just near the entrance.  Large comfortable room with ensuite bathroom.  The breakfast was delicious.  The hotel lounge and dining room on the ground floor were decorated for Christmas (see photos). The hotel manager was extremely friendly and helpful.  We booked an excellent restaurant for dinner, right next door to the hotel.

Beautiful hotel

Welcoming staff, cute old world decor, spacious room, and free parking. Just a short 5 minute walk to Château d'Amboise and nearby cafes/restaurants. Staff was helpful to carry our luggage to the top floor and the air conditioning was refreshing with the hot weather. We even had a view of Amboise from the bathroom! Staff was helpful in offering restaurant recommendations. Excellent location to stay for visiting surrounding chateaus! Highly recommend!

Spacious room, 5 minute walk to Amboise chateau

My husband stayed here for 7 wonderful days. We had a large room on the second floor. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. The location was walking distance to the major sights, restaurants and shopping.

A wonderful small inn in the heart of Amboise

The location of this hotel is perfect. We could walk just about everywhere. 
Staff is really friendly and helpful. 
The breakfast is excellent, though you do basically eat the same things every day. They can use an expresso machine and the hard boiled eggs were cold. 
The room in the main building look a bit tired.
All in all, a good place to stay while in the Loire Valley.

Good country Inn

I was traveling with my daughter, a recent college graduate. I chose the hotel for its location because we  wanted to be in the center of this charming town.  Honeymooners or luxury aficionados might want to stay in a chateau in the countryside but that's not what we were looking for.  

On arrival,  the climb up the stairs was a healthy one but we were rewarded with a spacious room and fairytale view.  The room decor was a throwback to the 1990's but the building has beautiful bones and everything was clean and comfortable.  The bathrobes and blow dryer were above average for a European hotel.  We hadn't pre-ordered breakfast when we booked but we were able to order it the day before if it was wanted.  I would recommend doing so because the breakfast was very good and there is a labor shortage in Amboise in Summer '22 so eating in the hotel was more pleasant and efficient than eating at local bakeries.  Speaking of Summer '22, this hotel has air conditioning, which is a huge plus and not always a given.  

 Laure and Guillaume made a  few restaurant reservations for us.  In addition, they arranged a round trip  taxi to Chenonceau with a very good driver.  In hindsight, we arrived straight from the US and think I'd take a taxi straight from CDG to Amboise; we took a taxi from CDG airport tot he train station in Paris (Gare Montparnasse) and the train then went to St. Pierre de Corps, from which we took another taxi. Direct trains to St. Pierre de Corps  did not work due to the rail strike and timing these was tricky anyway.  

If you aspire  to the very highest standards of  decor, luxury and attention at all times, there might be an alternative place to stay.  However,   I would highly recommend this hotel for the majority of discriminating travelers who seek an  authentic and comfortable base in the Loire Valley.  I would happily return.
