Grand and imposing on first sight, we were rather disappointed with the stay.
We spent one night at Le Chateau en route to Calais and were directed to the gatehouse on check-in. As a family of four, we were shown three rooms on the ground floor of the house, plus a kitchen/dining area. One of the rooms had a key so we were able to lock it, but the others didn't, which we found a bit bizarre - we think it was because the kitchen/dining area (which you walk through to get to these other two rooms) was also for the use of the other guests (upstairs in the house) - not sure... we never really worked it out but ended up having to lock all our luggage in one room when we went out to dinner. We also had to think about sleeping arrangements as we didn't want the children on their own in the two rooms beyond the kitchen area! (These two rooms could be locked from the inside, though).
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. One was en-suite, the other two shared a bathroom. Decor was dated, a bit threadbare in places, and the place feels like it needs freshening up.
Breakfast was served in the chateau but was very basic - bread, croissants, tea and coffee.

Shabby chateau

This is an enchanting old chateau owned by the family that founded Les Routiers.  There are about five bedrooms, mainly on the first floor; but we enjoyed being in the west wing on the ground floor with spacious windows facing full south, so a very bright sunrise start to the day overlooking the rabbits on the south lawn, and fields banked with woodland with small deer.  Breakfast is most enjoyable as Chantal joins and chats while supplying croissants, boiled eggs, jus d'orange, and tea and coffee in silver pots.  One is invited to arrange toasting of bread to taste on the sideboard.  Bring a bottle of white wine to enjoy an evening chat in the drawing-room about their family history and the refurbishment of the chateau.  Patrice will probably guide you to his WW1 museum.  Excellent WIFI, parking and landscape.  Bathrooms are modern.  Bedrooms have been tastefully decorated in a late 19th century style, so a wonderful experience of times past.  The owners are a charming couple of jolly French countryfolk.

Delightful old chateau for B&B

It's hard to believe that this is here. It's a real and well-restored chateau, with a history reaching back to Joan of Arc, and owned by Viscount de Saulieu and his Princess wife, and it is their home. The original structure has been painstakingly restored over 30+ years, and now offers modern plumbing. 

It's close to ARRAS and the Vimy Monument. Definitely a destination worthy stop

Approaching building.....spectacular, grand, historic,imposing. At building...very historic ambience but in need of tlc, wooden frames of windows have seen much.....and are now passed a paint job. Interior historic and full of beautiful furniture and accoutrements, some with "don't touch" notices, for the house is open as a museum. Bedroom, spacious, beautifully appointed, comfortable bed.....although with short legs I could have done with a stepladder! Ensuite, clean and serviceable was large and airy. Door to outside front in bedroom and windows gave fantastic feeling of space and brilliant illumination through the heavy drapes, creating a comforting atmosphere, although in winter it may be draughty. Breakfast very french, basic and limited; orange juice, coffee in a thermos, toast from a pre-sliced loaf, provided the night before, one croissant each and communal already opened jars of jam....with museum visitors being given guided tour whilst breakfast in progress.
It was a good, basic, historic experience, but I wouldn't recommend it as the catering was limited and poor, the facilities were restrictive and were multi-tasking, breakfast and museum tours coincided (9.00am) and no bar, but it was an experience! It is not wheelchair accessible, it has uneven stone steps, it is totally impractical, but overall I wouldn't have stayed anywhere else. Thank you, Madame, Monsieur, it was unforgetable.

Step back in time

One of those places always to remember. Beautiful trip into history. Wonderful castle, great style, grace and good taste. All this in the midst of green meadows with huge trees and friendly cows. It couldn't be more French. The land lord and lady are very kind and hospital.

A lovely place to be

We knew we would be stopping in a chateau in the middle of the countryside. Pulling into the driveway we saw a grand old building in the stately home style, definitely not a castle. Be aware that there is nothing in Grand-Rullecourt in terms of shops. The nearest village has one restaurant and a few shops including a Carrefour and an Aldi. Be aware that everything closes Sunday afternoon.

We were warmly greeted by our hosts who showed us up to our room. It was more like a suite with a large bedroom with sitting area, a dressing room and a bathroom. It oozed character in our bedroom. The old timber floor has a slope and creaks, but the room itself was nicely decorated. 

The property has been restored to a point, with plenty of period furniture, especially on the ground floor in the dining room, library and sitting room.  There is a small museum at one end of the ground floor.

The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was OK but the shower was a bit of a problem. The bed was reasonable. Internet access is limited in rooms but fine in the dining room.

Breakfast is included but really quite poor. Cheap croissants and bread are about all you get. But that wasn't the reason we stopped there. We chose it because it is a chateau and it is a nice quiet part of the country. And the hosts are very friendly but don't expect too much in terms of luxury.
