Once found, the site is a little difficult to locate unless you're comming from the A9 motorway, the friendly staff do all they can to make your stay confortable and fun. The sanitary facilities are excellent and the resturant / coffee house excellent. There is a swmming pool although the Mediterranean coast isn't far. A great campsite for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

Wonderful Holiday camp site

We arrived at the site to be put on a pitch that was too small, even though we stated what size our tent was.  Apparently the pitch was 11x8 however as there was a tree in the centre of it there was no way our 10x5 tent would fit! we were then offered another pitch on which the tent just fitted then told after they’d watched us set up to have to move again.  On asking for a refund as the third pitch was even smaller we were told that was fine and was offered €670 refund to be given a €610 one.  Campsite refuses to answer any emails and parent group flower campings are not interested.  Staff were exceptionally rude and just laughed amongst themselves.  Food at the takeaway is exceptionally expensive and inedible.  Toilet and shower facilities and pool area were also quite dirty.  Over 1000 miles driven over two days to get to the site and site owners did not care!!

Horrendous customer service and one ruined holiday

Just returned from 6 nights in Camping les Chenes Rouges (formerly Romania Camping). We stayed in an O'Hara mobile home which was comfy, clean and had a decent air-con unit, shower, loo and beds with the usual 15cm gap around the room to perform a comedic change of underpants and socks, no chance. Last year we stayed in Le Bois de Valmarie so I have something to compare with in my thoughts. Come on then, some major plus points. I liked the location, just outside Argeles - potentially hard to find if you have not reviewed Google satellite maps in advance, fortunately I had but was glad I was not trying to find it in the dark or when tired. I used exit 11 from the 914, then took a back road off the 618 which has an InterMarche and a fantastic local fruit 'n veg seller near to St Andres. I liked the fact we could drive into the old town of Argeles and the main beaches but also retreat from the hubbub, about a 10-15 drive. The train bus also visits twice per day and you can order croissants and bread to the reception counter. I preferred driving 5 mins to the supermarket to look at all the lovely french cheeses and wines.
My 5 year old liked Camping les Chenes Rouges and gave the water slides 6 out of 5 stars! I also liked the pool and the play areas which can get busy in high season, but you have to pick the right times of day to swim - early morning is of course best. The other plus points, it was fairly quiet with reasonable spaces between pitches. It was mostly French and Dutch campers and there was respect for observing the peace after 11pm. I got the impression this site is in transition and may develop and improve in coming seasons to keep up with customer expectations. As it was I found it not too commercial but a bit wanting in terms of on-site provisions and evening atmosphere. I am fairly outgoing and have found other campsites to be a bit more fun or engaging. I'm not sure why but the campers were a bit reserved at Camping les Chenes Rouges. For example, they have added an excellent 5 a-side court with basketball nets and astro-turf. Me and the lad had it to ourselves but a few free footballs or basketballs would have been nice. On our first night (Weds) there were outdoor games for families placed next to the bar. These were fun and brought families out but there were not many other entertainments to draw us to the bar. On the whole a very good campsite with all the essentials you would expect as standard. There was no shop or cafe on site but the 5 minute drive to the InterMarche in St Andre was no big deal and it was better than the Lidl in Argeles. The site is spacious and regimental in layout but the hills and camp can be dusty. There was enough shade from trees in 34c heat and the air-con was perfect at night for keeping us all cool and locking out the mossies. The decking to the mobile home was large enough to eat outside but some boards needed screwing down (I resisted the urge to fix one of them, a real toe stubber). The table and chairs were same as the plastic B&Q ones you can buy in UK for your garden, the ones with wobbly legs. We had paid for a BBQ - expecting gas - but we received an electric flat-bed grill called a plancher, it did the job but gas would have been better. There was an itinerary for cutlery, plates and cups. I can't imagine them being attractive to theives. There were no wine glasses, egg cups or large mugs for coffee so we bought some cheap ones from the InterMarche. There was a microwave and everything was clean with nice towels and blankets. The table inside the mobile was not easy to sit at due to the legs being in the way and it was too big for practical egress to the sofas - and I am a slim Jim. My 5 year old was able to scramble behind it to play Lego but it was not right for the space so we ate on the deck which was nicer anyway in the great outdoors. I would give this site 4 stars but I found the bar restaurant was idiosyncratic. I asked for a large vin rouge and was offered a giant glass of Hooegarden. The pression lager is Juplier, so a bit more choice would have been welcome. The bar staff sat outside the bar and it did feel like you were disturbing them, or their friends, when approaching the bar. My attempts to order in French did not really land well either. I tried the pizza and the bar lady presented it without a fork and asked if I would like a fork to go with my knife, it felt like a scene from Faulty Towers, of course not I stupidly replied, why would I want a fork to go with a knife. My wife claims the menu was wide ranging but I only remember seeing pizzas which were mediocre. Many people were ordering them as take-out and eating them in their cabins. I was surprised how quiet and underused the bar restaurant was at night considering it was well laid out and built. Staff were friendly but it did feel like an effort to order and I felt compelled to eat out in Argeles. Perhaps I was just unlucky with the bar restaurant experience but one afternoon it and the pool were closed and a French lady said to me 'tout ferme' in disgust. On the whole though I thought this was a good campsite that I would give 5 stars to if they just keep heading the direction they are going, perhaps I will return one day.

A solid 3 star campsite near the valley of Tortues!

The most outstanding feature of the campsite is the superb pool with associated slides and water shoots.  The restaurant food was among the best we have found.  Everywhere was quiet and peaceful and most emplacements had plenty of welcome shade.  All staff were very helpful.  The site is gradually being improved and the toilet block is probably next on the list - although it was all very clean.

Peace in the shade or sun

Our family have been coming to Romaric for over 20 years and has seen it grow from a small site to what it is today, a tranquil site a far cry from the busy sites on the sea front but close enough to the village, port and beaches if that is what you are looking for. A car is useful, but not essential as there is a land train service available (also a mini bus) in 2017 apparently!
We have always found the service friendly and the site and amenities clean.

Tranquil wooded site

A well run site, out of the noise and bustle of Argeles sur Mer, on the route to Sorede. It is fairly hard to find but is easy to follow the signs once you are on the D2 to Sorede.  There are about 60 pitches for camping and caravans, with different  sizes and variable amounts of shade. There are a lot of static mobile homes, a swimming pool, bar and a basic restaurant. The facilities are clean, with good showers, the toilets are cramped as they have been converted from the hole in the ground type to pedestal.  Hot water takes a little while to come through and the sinks to do washingin, are old and only have cold water.  For caravans, there is a chemical emptying point.  The restaurant has themed evenings where there is entertainment of some description with accompanying food.
The site is part of the ACSI network, which makes it good value out of season.

A really quiet campsite

Our 'chalet' was in full sun from sunrise to sunset with no shade whatsoever. Temperatures inside the chalet reached 36ºC which was unbearable, especially with a baby and 5 year old. 

After complaining we were told that nothing could be done and rudely told that they did not control the weather. There was just no empathy or apology.

We had just travelled from a great campsite that was part of the same 'flower' group so had high expectations. We were treated in quite a regimented manner. All knives, forks, spoons and under bed areas were checked before our deposit was returned and this just felt like being at school again.

A little effort in customer service and a friendly smile can smooth over just about any situation. Something seriously lacking here.
