Unfortunately NOT at Hotel de France.
Purely for money gain, we were pushed into a room which could take 40 - 50 people comfortably but contained 90 - 100 people. What pandemic, what are safety regulations?? We had to climb over people to leave, no idea how orders were going to be taken or delivered to where we were sat.
Ended up at Bar Restaurant de la Douane, St.Severin, superb food and excellent service.

Fantastic night

English manager likes to talk and when you reply she simply says shes not interested. I don't know if this is her english personality or because I'm gay and shes homophobic...

Avoid this place and use your had earn money somewhere else

Work

Always been a hit and miss kinda place regarding service. Yesterday sat outside the hotel with friends wait ing to be served. 30 mins later after the waitress had spotted us several times she announced to her colleague that she was far too busy to take drink orders. Won't be visiting this place again..  no wonder this place changes hands so many times. Hope the next manager's are more professional and friendly.. I'm sure a party of 10 buying several drinks would have been profitable.. thank goodness there are several other places to chose to drink in aubeterre.

Bad service

The Management has changed again but this time the new staff seem to have got things right. There is a good menu on offer and a fine selection of wines. There is indoor seating available but dining in the square adds to the ambience. Waiting staff are very friendly and fluent in both French and English.

Ideal setting

We spent 2 nights at the Hotel de France, at the end of a fanatic week in the region. 

The Hotel de France is situated in a lovely small village of Aubeeterre-sur-dronne. Qualified as one of the most beautiful places of France. 
If you go for hospitality then look no further, however If you want big fat luxury this is probably not you cup of tea. 
There is everything you need but it's a basic hotel, and you may find sharing a bathroom & toilet facility a bit uncomfortable. 
Nice things about the hotel: the food is good, the bar is very cosy.  
As it was summer when we stayed most of the tourist are English or Dutch. 
We found the hotel as a good place to go see Perigieux, Bergerac, Brantome, but if you don't want to go anywhere you will have a good time in Aubeterre as well. 
There's the River Dronne with a small city beach, with a small snack bar, play area and if you energetic then you can hire a Kayak for 7euros an hour, we did and had a good time.    
There are some great restaurants in Aubeterre are the hotel its self serve's good food, Tappas & Pizzeria and, Sel et Sucre for a nice lunch.  if its fine dining your after then there is the Hotel Perrigord near by at the bottom of the hill on D2 T junction, a 4 course meal off the set menu will cost you 31euros, if your budget can accommodate this then its well worth it you will not be disappointed.   
If there's any point of criticism it's maybe the showers in he rooms. 
They really need an update but I must say they had some power and you felt like you have had a shower (if that makes sense). 
Frank, the Dutch owner can't do enough for you, and his staff are lovely and willing to help.

An end to a fantastic week

I was travelling alone and had a small room at the top. No tv and a shared bathroom but wasn't a bother. The hotel de France is what it is. If you want expensive plush rooms with all the fittings, don't go here. If you want a place to sleep, meet nice people and eat good food and a great pint of Guinness, this is the place for you.
Frank, the Dutch owner can't do enough for you, the staff are lovely and willing to help.
There is a mix of locals, English, French, Australian, Dutch all happy to sit and chat with a nice glass of wine or beer!
It won't suit everyone but hey! Where does?

In summer most tourist are English or Dutch. Also there are many Dutch and Englsh peopYou must see the hotel as a good place to go see Perigieux, Bergerac, Brantome but if you don't want to go anywhere you will have a good time in Aubeterre as well. There's that lovely small river, the Dronne with a small city beach. Great restaurants are in the hotel, the taverna and, Sel et Sucre for a nice lunch. 
If there's any pointof critisism it's maybe the showers in he rooms. They really need an update but the lovely owners Milly and Frank are working on that. They wlcome you with wide arms and a great feeling of hospitality. I would say: just try it and don't be te picky and spoiled tourist but just enjoy. :-)
