The owner can see only money in you $$$£££€€€€. They don't care to know what hospitality is and what value of money means. We were send to this hotel, because the one we had booked had no capacity for that night and we were informed last minute for the change. Once we entered the room, we checked that no air conditioner was functioning. We informed the owner(the woman ) and she answered back with a very loud voice, almost shouting that we were not supposed to have air conditioning in that price (5€ less than the usual price). We told her to cancel the charge, we wanted to leave the hotel and then she gave us another room with a/c. All the rooms had the smell of humidity and mud , like you were in Amsterdam. No good ventilation . No elevator for the luggage, no fridge, nothing. 
The only good thing I can mention is the location. Very close to the bus station that takes you to the airport. 

Worst hotel ever ! 

I was pleased with the hotel and location.
The room was of a recite size.
Bed comfortable.
Had to ask for an other pillow mine was to flat.
our room was very quite to 
It has a good internet and speed free of charge
Phone in the room and TV.
bathroom was small but convenient but could do with a touchup
overall for the EURO 85.00 can’t complain.
Yes you can stay their based on expected basic and comfortable.
Location is prefect between the port and the train station

Hotel Univers dates from 1896 and is located in the centre of Bastia, just 100 metres from Saint Nicolas Square and one block away from the Porte de Bastia and Tourism de bastia Office.It offers free Wi-Fi access, a 24-hour reception and bicycle storage facilities.But No Lifts.Staff doesnt speak English.They dont accept US Dollars.The entire Corsica Island does not accept US Dollars for there is NO FOREIGN EXCHANGE in the entire Corsica so please carry EUROS ONLY.Even the Post Office bang opposite the Hotel and Banque de France behind the Hotel was of no use. Eventually I had to get Euros from Western Union office in Citadel from my friend in Cagnes Sur Mer near Nice.This was the most troublesome part of my journey that I could not believe NO HOTEL in Corsica accepts US DOLLARS.This was an amazing discovery on the Corse Island which I will never forget in my entire Life.I stayed there for 4 nights.The stay was average as I used it only for sleeping purpose nothing else.

The 5 star Rating is strictly for the Excellent Location with Zero star rating for  US DOLLARS NOT ACCEPTED & No Lifts

Pros: quick check-in and not too much of a hassle. OK accommodations and cleanliness. Balcony and quiet room. Night guard who went up to wake us up early in the morning (2 flights of steep stairs).
Cons: Staff is a bit abrupt and does not like French people (at least the one I talked to - seemed to be the owner). Hidden cost until you check-in (it is normal and customary to pay Euro 1 per person as a tourist tax all over Corsica, but the price quoted should reflect that when you call in or come by the hotel to ask for the price). No mini fridge in the room.

Hotel Univers

This hotel is really handy both for the port and town. It is also near where most of the bus journeys to other parts of the island depart from.

The staff were very helpful in recommending local restaurants and made our stay very pleasant.
