Had to stay three days in Boulogne and this was a good deal. The room was light and airy and the only real problem was not enough room in the toilet. Quite noisy at night because of the station but I happened to like that.

Correct

The hotel advertises the 24 hour reception desk when we arrived we had to call a number written on the door of the hotel which isn’t the same as the number advertised online for somebody to come out and open the hotel up for us

When we walked into the reception area the whole place smell very musty and it also smelled of cigarettes. 

The hotel obviously wasn’t ready for our check-in as they had to search for towels for our rooms which again smelled very musty and upon inspection of the bedroom I wasn’t sure if the sheets had been laundered recently or not

The place is an absolute tip 
Although at €50 per room per night It is reasonable value but I’d rather pay more and not be worried that my room might been ransacked whilst I am out

What have we done?

My husband and I had booked a 2 night stay but we only stayed 1 night. I cried when I saw the room. It was small and dirty. We had just driven 600 miles from the south of france so did not have the energy to change hotel as we were exhausted. There was no soap provided and Covid regulations not adhered to. The staff were pleasant enough and breakfast adequate but that is the only good thing I can say.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in

Never, ever, ever stay at Au Sleeping in Boulogne-sur-Mer.

I've been there, for single night stays, several times this year & it's been fine - tired but clean, staff & customers pleasant & an on - site bar/restaurant. 

Manager changed since I was there in July & now the bar is full of aggressive drunks & 'ladies' of the night so no way could I sit in the bar. 

After I'd checked in & luggage upstairs,  I was going out for a meal but had to witness (they were blocking the exit) the new manager beat one customer & a member of staff to a pulp - blood everywhere - I was so frightened. 

Baracaded myself in my room & snuck out early hours.

& there is no longer any wifi

Do not stay here!

Stopped here on our way out to French holiday after Ibis let us down again.  Small hotel/Restaurant whose speciality is Couscous Royal.  Arrived,  parked outside in street, and welcomed by manager who does not speak English but his barman does.  All very helpful, up to room,  which was clean and well equipped taking into account it is two star.  Had a relaxing drink in the bar,  locals very friendly and shook hands with us.  Bed good,  slept well,  towels adequate for shower. Shower gel and coffee making equipment provided.  Breakfast adequate and good but only after 8am.  WiFi is provided.  Owner served breakfast himself and spoke French slowly so I could understand and reply.  A good experience for 56ksh Euros,  watch out Ibis.  Down side is no lift,  worn stair carpet,  lingering cooking smell.  Would stay again at this price!!!

A good cheap clean Hotel for an overnight stop

Don't be influenced by the reviews saying Le Sleeping is terrible. It's certainly not and stayed in much worse. The rooms are bright and airy. The shower room and toilet was modern and clean and well-lit everything worked. There are coffee making facilities a bottle of mineral water and a decent tv. The bed was clean and comfortable. There was a small very basic wardrobe but with 3 decent hangars. Yes the room was quite small but just look at the price. The manager who never stops talking bent over backwards to welcome us, paying was fully explained at least 3 times (!) and a singe. Said we could get something to eat at any time - as long as you like cous cous. He was available 24/7. Our sons' room beat ours for a view of the cathedral but their set top box wasn't working. They also said their beds were not too comfortable Their room was definitely cooler than ours. It had been 34° during the day in Boulogne.

Breakfast which is included, had lots of variety, very nice croissants too. There was even ham and cheese for German guests. Orange juice came in large glasses too. It's self serve so you can have as much as you want.

So downsides? Not so easy to find. My sat nav couldn't and one son guided me on his mobile. Good thing though is parking opposite is free. Once we got our bearings and not confused by the one-way system we found we were barely 10 minutes walk from the town centre . The hotel has plenty of town maps. The other, well I found I needed a second pillow which was in the wardrobe. I sleep two pillows high. It looked clean until I looked on the other side and saw a blood stain. Not pleasant. I didn't mention it as we were there for 1 night and I would have been there a half hour while the manager said how sorry he was etc.

So would we go back? Yes probably. Perfectly acceptable for 1 or 2 nights
