many imperfections in this small hotel. the website is not reflecting the reality of the hotel. when you book though booking com the rooms comfort are 3 starred ranked and not at all 4 stars as booking would mention.
I did not like the menu and the tomato burrata is a real horrible meal with only 3 small tomatoes... the pool is ok but faslty crowded and even the staff is swimming next to you. this not acceptable ! 

very disapointing service and food

We found this hotel by chance and what a lovely place. It is attached to a thermal spa where you can take a “cure “ but we just stayed one night. Full of history, there are various sizes of rooms. We had a small room overlooking the courtyard which was very comfortable and clean. There was a nice bar and sitting room in the public areas. Free parking outside. Dinner was very good. Not an enormous menu but good choice. Breakfast was extra and was mostly bread based with meat or cheese, cereals and fruit. 
The owners were very welcoming and spoke English. We went for a walk around the town which was interesting with a tower, castle and lots of interesting little shops. This could be a good place to stay if you are thinking of visiting the Auvergne region.

Quiet, clean comfortable and welcoming

I do not often write reviews, but feel compelled to after reading the review below.

I stayed at this hotel for one night as a stopover on the way to the South of France with my wife and children.  From the moment we arrived, I only have positive comments.

We were greeted by a very friendly lady on reception who showed us to our lovely spacious room.  We spent the day relaxing by the pool which the kids particularly loved after the long drive.

Before dinner we had drinks in the garden.  The same lady greeted us and sat us for dinner giving us a choice of inside or out.
The four course set meal was enjoyable, and at a reasonable price. 

Again at breakfast we were given a choice of eating in the restaurant or garden.  There was a great choice for everyone from pastries to fruit, yoghurts, cheese, meats etc. etc.

There was nothing I could really pick fault with and I think the staff deserve particular credit for being so friendly and helpful in today’s challenging circumstances. 

We are staying again in one week on our way home which I’m looking forward to as the perfect way to end our holiday. 

Perfect stay in a charming hotel

Receptionist doest cone to greet you.
You wait and she shouts.
Unfriendly staff.
On the breakfast i was talking to the staff to choose a table. She shouted at me and said i made her angry ! 
Rooms are unhealthy! Pay attention if you have asthma.

Terrible

Tucked away in rural France we came across this gem. Had problem parking but the owner was more than helpful and couldn't have done more. The room was big, well furnished and a great view of the castle and exquisites garden/terrace. Bathroom was a bit dated.
The restaurant and reception areas were charming and the food more than acceptable. Breakfast was wide ranging and possibly one of the best buffets we have experienced.
Comes recommended!

Pretty town, hotel and an enjoyable experience

We stopped here for several nights on our way from Burgundy back to the Loire region. It is a lovely old hotel with HUGE rooms. It felt like we were living in a castle.

Front desk people were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good.

The spa seems to be the primary reason that people come to this town, Not a lot else to do other than visit the castle ruins.

Lovely Old Hotel In Bourbon-l'Archambault

Very friendly staff, clean rooms, great value for money! Nice swimming pool which unfortunately we couldn't enjoy due to weather.
The beds of the standard room are very small. Not necessarily a problem but when the floor of the room is not level (old building) it becomes a challange to stay on your (small) side of the bed.

Old hotel for reasonable price

Stayed at the hotel two nights, a historical house with connections to Talleyrand, one of my heroes.  Good parking at the front door, the room large and with fine acoustics.  (I always carry a flute with me, doesn’t everybody?).  Very nice small middle-aged lady greeted us, grabbed one bag and headed up the staircase.  The other bag was left, with small suitcase (computer and flutes) for me.  45 steps.  Aside from drinking a bit too much, I'm in good health 77 years old, should have asked for help, didn’t want to trouble the nice lady with a job that I should have been able to do myself.  Elevator, yes, but didn’t’ seem to go from where we were to where our room was located.  Fine restaurant, excellent service.  Superb garden with wonderful boxwood bushes and a 400 year old tree.  Still debating whether to give four or five rating, think 4.5 should be the most honest.  45 stairs up and 45 down again.  Good exercise, if I recommend you ignore your male ego and ask for assistance with bags! Will stay again (good location for us), but will request a room closer to the ground floor! Fine historical hotel with excellent restaurant

We went into this fine looking establishment around 8 pm on a week night with hope in our hearts that there would soon be food in our bellies. Sadly the arrogance and (condensed) lies of the maitre d quashed our spirits. Had they been lucky enough to have us as guests however the story would have been .......well probably disappointing. But we’ll never know. 
The swift up and down scan we received on entering was a sure sign of what was to come. 

On the bright side, the pizza place a mere 20 seconds away was delicieux and about 1/6th of the price. 

Best rejection we’ve ever had.
