Spent 3 night in Cafe de la Promenade in September and can’t praise it enough.  Great hosts, great accommodation, great wine and food and great dog, Mia. Thank you Nora for lovely gift.  We will remember our lovely time there when we drink it.  Thank you Sam for great food.

September Trip

Well, what a fantastic restaurant.  Food, superb, wine fantastic and the staff so kind, knowledgeable, truly lovely.  There were 4 of us and all our meals were wonderful.  I had beef carpaccio and a raw chocolate cake, just cooksd on the outside and raw in the middle. No, not raw, moulten but thats how it was described and I was sold. Excellent wine selection and a cellar you can go into.  We had assistance with one of our wines and boy, of boy, what a fabulous red it was.  The white wine was lovely as well.  This is just another little hidden gem, hunt for it when in the Loire Valley.

You must come and have a meal

We went on two occasions and were not disappointed! The cafe is run by a vibrant staff who are courteous and welcoming. There was a wide choice of dishes available. I had the chicken salad and my partner had the foie gras and couldn't manage a desert, tempting as they were. 

What is interesting is the wine cellar adjacent to the main area where you can go and select your bottle of wine to take to the table!

On the second visit my partner had the burger but this was not any ordinary burger! I opted for the smoked fish salad and this time managed an ice cream.

This was a reasonably priced menu which attracted the locals as well as tourists.

It was good to meet Jackson who was a delightful guest waiter.

Great welcome

The pictures don't do this place justice! It's the perfect amount of rustic and chic. There's a great patio to sit outside and enjoy an afternoon lunch. We had a good assortment of French cheeses. The wine room is a unique feature where you select your bottle of wine yourself. I would definitely recommend and would even try for dinner! 

Perfect lunch spot 

What a loverly surprise, the room is large and clean, but don't expect luxury. It's adequate and rural just what we like. The food was plentiful and delicious, the wine is something else. We were invited to go into the owners wine cellar and choose our own wine from a marvellous selection. We chose a Chinon to go with our pasta for lunch, a good choice as it was to die for.
We are looking forward to dinner tonight as if lunch was anything to go by it will be fabulous . The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful and down to earth.
Don't expect modern decor as it is very informal and homely but comfortable.
We will definitely stay here again.

Recommended to us for their 'killer burgers' by Varennes-sur-Loire locals. Very funky, relaxed atmosphere. The proprietor is waiter and cooks to order your meals. The HamBourgeuil is indeed the killer burger. Complete with confit onion and a layer of foie gras. Amazing. Served with salad and sautéed potatoes. There are also other options on the small menu including some very fresh charcuterie. The unexpected highlight was the tarte tartin made in the pizza oven after slicing local apples and scattering them along with some fine sugar over a handmade pizza base. Absolutely delicious. The extensive wine cellar is also a huge draw card.
