Johan and Christina are hosts that care about their guests and have great pride in their wine and their food. The location and the menu are top notch and the welcome is off the dial. It’s not for every night , more a special occasion but it’s well worth it. Signature and unique menu and a very personal fireside approach to your whole experience.

Wow! What a GEM of a find. We like a little bit of luxury when we go away and when I was searching for the perfect hotel near Bergerac I found La Libertie and was blow away by the reviews, we couldn’t NOT give it a try. We pulled up outside (the hotel is so pretty) Christina greeted us with a smile and took us to our room. The rooms was spacious and super clean, a seating area and beautiful bathroom with L’Occitaine products, the bed was incredibly comfy with crisp white sheets! Every day the room was cleaned with fresh towels - a lovely bonus. It just kept getting better, we booked the restaurant and had the taster menus - WOW better than Michelin in the UK, the breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious. The pool area is stunning - super relaxing and peaceful! Christina & Johan certainly know how to host their guests - a luxury service every second of the day. They both work so hard to make your experience the best. I give La Libertie 20 out of 10. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. 

Thank you for an amazing stay, we will be back and will be telling all our friends and family! Nothing in the UK compares to their standards, thank again.

Wow wow wow wow.  No more needs to be said…

A wonderful place, great attitude, to give an example we were just sitting in the garden and without asking a jug of iced water and two glasses were given to us how many 5 star hotels would do that ?

Cleanliness - impeccable 
Rooms,- impeccable 
Food- impeccable 
Ambiance - impeccable 
Wine - impeccable 
Service - impeccable 

We never stay at B&B’s / Cambre hôtes but this was a revelation

Wonderful stay

We stayed here, with friends, for 4 nights.  Our friends had stayed here before and had spoken of it in glowing terms.  We were certainly not disappointed. Our room (a deluxe) was beautifully decorated and well appointed, with a very modern bathroom.  We really appreciated the luxury of a walk-in rain shower.  The air conditioning was very efficient and ultra-quiet. A door gave access to a pretty, private terrace.
The owners, Johan and Christina, hail from Sweden and so a Nordic sense of style is everywhere.  Both are charming and could not do enough for us.  This place is run properly.
Breakfast is included in the room price and a wide choice is offered, including a delicious omelette if you so wish.  The restaurant is superb and we saw no reason to dine elsewhere during our stay (NB: the restaurant was  open  Wednesday - Sunday whilst we were there.  The days of opening depend on the season).  We found the food to be absolutely delicious - the turbot and a heavenly strawberry souffle were firm favourites.  An extensive wine list is offered.
We unreservedly recommend La Libertie and will certainly return.

Don’t know where to start really😉,from start to finish it has to be one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I’ve ever had,it was brilliant!👌.The Place is stunningly beautiful,food to die for,and the Hosts who work front of house are totally brilliant,they made the night for us,it’s just a total travesty for us we could only manage to eat there on the last night of our holiday,as they only reopened then,or else I would have been eating there every night,anybody that goes on holiday to the area has GOT to eat there at the very least,I could go on,it’s a great culinary experience,I will return one day😊,FAB place,hosts especially,hope the place goes from strength to strength😊

Wow Wow Wow

Down a quiet road outside Bergerac, this is a true hidden gem. Previously a chamber d’hôte, Swedish hosts Christina and Johan have turned this establishment into an exquisite small hotel with an exceptional cuisine that marries the best of Sweden with the best of Périgord. Rooms look out over a sweeping garden or over the pool, which is heated to a comfortable temperature even if the outdoor temperature is chillier. They have now opened an impressive restaurant with exceptional Swedish-French fusion cooking. Worth a long detour!

La Libertie is truly a hidden gem. Close to Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, Perigeux but still in a very calm, rural setting. 

Recently refurbished the La Libertie is offering you a great experience with good sized, beautifully decorated rooms, a big, heated swimming pool and a lovely host couple.

We enjoyed every minute of the stay – the striking ambience of the place and the excellent service are two characteristics that make your stay a true pleasure.

And we must not forget the newly opened restaurant. It is definitely worth a detour. 
Sensational food, to some degree influenced by the Swedish heritage, and many excellent wines – a gastronomic memory for a long time.

We have been at La Libertie before. Last week we was there three nights and we have to say that this time, after the renovation, it’s more stunning than ever.
The rooms are much bigger, the pool is heated and they now have a restaurant that also serves dinner. You can compare it with a one ⭐️ Michelin restaurant. Christina and Johan take care of you in the best way so just relax and enjoy the time. 
You can not miss this place!

Stunning

So glad I found this place. We were travelling to the south of France 
And trying to stay at mainly small family run hotels and found la Liberia with an internet search. The location is ideal for visiting Bergerac Périgueux and Bordeaux.  The property is very well presented with quality fittings and furnishings, there is a large outdoor heated pool and seating to the front and rear. Johan and Christina were very friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our evening meal was worthy of a top restaurant with service to match. We will definitely return, for more than one night next time. If you are looking for a quality relaxing place to stay with great food and serve this is it. 

Absolute gem. 

I stayed at La Libertie for 3 nights over the weekend of a friend’s nearby wedding. 

I emailed the hosts, Christina and Johan, a couple of nights before I was due to arrive to ask them whether I could have something simple and light to eat upon arrival (at around 3pm). I received a rather unhelpful response telling me that the only option was to have a set 3 course meal at 8pm in their restaurant. I explained that I was on my own for one night and didn’t feel comfortable eating a 3 course meal in a formal dining room - but still they offered no alternatives - so I said not to worry and that I would try to pick something up from a boulangerie on the way. I also asked whether they could book me a taxi from Bergerac airport but was told that it would be easier if I booked one myself...

Upon arrival I was utterly flabbergasted by the way Christina greeted me. She was extremely rude and clearly incredibly annoyed by my picking a sandwich up on the way instead of eating the 3 course meal. She aggressively said that she had asked me what I wanted and nothing had been good enough. Quite the contrary, not once did she ask me what I wanted. I did not want an argument so had to ask Christina to leave my room. The next day I found out from a fellow guest that La Libertie does in fact offer a light lunch of a sandwich and gazpacho, to be served around the pool. Why was I not offered this? Is it not exactly what I had asked for?

It became clear that Christina had a chip on her shoulder for the entire duration of my stay. I felt slightly scared to ask her for anything (for example a drink of water around the pool) because each time I did she looked at me with utter contempt. Christina’s attitude towards me had obviously filtered through to her husband Johan because when I told him that a plug socket had come out of the wall in my bedroom I was told in a surly manner to ‘use the other one’. When I asked if it could be fixed he said ‘tomorrow if you’re lucky’. No apology or acknowledgement of the health and safely risk involved... 

Another important point to note is that, the security at this place is none existent. There are locks on the doors but guests are told to leave their key in an open drawer in reception so that Christina can clean the rooms. Why bother having a lock and key at all when any other guest, or in fact any member of the passing public, could waltz in and take the key? Christina claims she is always on reception but that’s a bit hard to believe given she is also the cook, the cleaner and the waitress around the pool...

In all my years of travelling and staying in $20 p/n casas in Cuba through to 5* hotels in France I have NEVER come across a pair like them. The word rude does not even begin to describe them. They were unaccommodating, inflexible, unwelcoming and quite frankly, odd. It felt more like staying at a regimented camp than a hotel. I am not sure how they have managed to receive any good reviews so far. Perhaps if you go and play exactly by their rules you will be fine. But dare ask for anything out of the ordinary like some bread and cheese on arrival and woe betide you...
