After being let down by a hotel in St Malo, this came up on my search.  What a fantastic location, stunning views and the meal, well...….We will definitely be back again as have several trips to St Malo.  Lovely people, nice bar and peaceful.  Stunning walk round the headland too.

What a hidden treasure.

I travel a lot. Staying in different hotels, I witness varying attitudes of hotel management towards guests. However, management of Point de Grouin Hotel has set itself apart. After returning home, I have received a follow-up letter from the hotel, which I feel compelled to share. This was my third stay there over three years, always booking the same room (it’s easy, because this is a very small property). In fact, I booked a fourth stay previously (obviously, I canceled after receiving this letter), because I really love the area. Over time I have observed steady deterioration of the already flawed property. All of the issues present two years ago (clogged drain in the shower, dusty room, door to the bathroom that does not close completely) have not only remained, but progressed, mostly due to poor room upkeep, and were joined by a toxic chemical smell that I witnessed both upon arrival, and after each cleaning. However, the straw that really broke the camel’s back was a plethora of black hairs all over the white tiles in the bathroom.  

Being a patient character overall, I waited for three nights. Then, I politely asked the manager, who had been there since my first stay, if it would be possible to clean the room a little more throughly, and actually remove this hair from the walls. The manager became angry, citing it was my hair (I am a blonde, and so is my partner). She strengthened her point by citing reviews on booking.com, where no-one complains about cleaning. My proposal to jointly observe the issue in the room was firmly rejected. I ceased the discussion, and left the hotel the next morning, as planned.

The attached letter followed me home. It does contain some truth. Yes, I had a few snacks and water inside: the EUR 150/night hotel does not offer either minibar or a fridge in the closet-sized room, and is located rather remotely. Their restaurant was not interesting, and it does not work every day anyway. Yes, on Sunday I was in the room until 3 pm, I did not know it would be an issue. When I left the room, the maid already went home. What is meant by Confederate, I am not sure, the Civil War in the US is long over. Now, the positive: I am truly happy that they spent an hour cleaning the room after we left - the room really needed a thorough dusting long before, and I hope, this approach stays, unlike their attitude towards guests. The letter was concluded by a proposal that we should not return. 

It is up to the potential visitors whether they want to stay in this place and pay these people’s salaries. I only go where I am cared for. Hospitality Industry, be definition, is about just this.

Disrespect to guests

This is a tough one. On one hand the location is a breathtaking nature masterpiece. On the other hand, the hotel is one of the worst I have ever visited. Tiny, very dated, disgustingly dirty rooms. But even bigger issue is the staff (I stayed in this hotel several times, and the results were consistent). Having traveled all over, this has to be one of the rudest, condescending, arrogant staff I have ever encountered. They must absolutely hate their jobs. And this hotel is not cheap at all. What a shame.

Nice location, horrible hotel

Hotel in good location with great view. However, this does not at all make up for tiny, filty rooms in dire need of update. Poor room maintenance (bathroom door does not close, drain in the shower is clogged), and awful cleaning (hair all over the bathroom walls) are clear signs of bad ownership. When approached the reception staff about this, the manager became extremely angry and rude. I am looking forward to returning to this hotel AFTER the ownership change, which, no doubt, will happen soon, considering how disinterested the current owners are both in the property and in the guests.

Though seafood is their forte.
The view is fantastic but get there early as it gets very busy.
We will definitely go back.
