My wife said Madame DESREZ, or “Michelle” as she prefers, reminded her of Meryl Streep: down to earth, engaging, practical, and confident. As others have said, she is a marvelous host. She covers all the bases to assure that you have an enjoyable stay, and at the same time she doesn’t hover, she gives you plenty of space. 

We usually stay in hotels when on vacation, but it was a delight to have this more personal experience. We not only met Michelle, but we also met her daughter and granddaughter who visited while we were there. 

Manoir du Captot is a historic and handsomely decorated home. You feel a sense of the past as well as the living energy of family life of today. The hospitality that Michelle extends is a joy. Every morning she set out a breakfast in the dining room fit for a queen. We were amazed to learn that the delicious jams and preserves were her own creation.

We had a car, and for the most part we went to restaurants in Rouen for dinner. All of which worked out well. Making the reservation was easy and quick via email. We stayed in the Pink Room which is spacious and looks out over the fields and trees behind the house. It has a nice bathroom and there is a glass partition on the side of the tub so you can shower.

We are happy that we stayed for several days. Manoir du Captot is great base for the many interesting sights in and around Rouen.

Authentic, personal, chaming

What a wonderful place to stay at the end of our trip to France.  We spent three nights here visiting Rouen and used it as a base to travel to Giverny and the Normandy coast.  Our host, Michelle, was a gracious host.   Despite our not speaking much French at all, communication was relatively easy and comfortable.  Michelle gave us good directions and assistance to get the bus into Rouen center.  It's about a 15 minute walk to the bus stop and about 10 minutes or so into Rouen centre.  Our room was extremely large and well appointed.  The bathroom was also very spacious and immaculately clean.  The house is located on some very picturesque grounds which we enjoyed.  Breakfast was excellent and include some home made jams using fruit from the trees on the property - delicious.  Would highly recommend this place as a good stopping point.

Character and charm

We stayed for one night on our way home to UK  from Limousin and what a fabulous stop off . Beautiful traditional Manoir and Michelle was charming . She made us and our two dogs very welcome, we walked the dogs through the grounds accompanied by Michelle’s dog India 😊
We ate at a lovely restaurant 10 minutes walk away booked for us by Michelle .
Room was stunning and we had a very comfortable night with lovely continental breakfast to set us up for the journey home - very much recommended particularly if you love a traditional chateau!

Beautiful Manoir- excellent host

18th century historic mansion, lots of acreage and trees, quiet, gorgeous. We were assigned a gigantic room with lots of antiques and decor of the period. We were the only guests that night. Breakfast was excellent with French bread, cheeses, ham, jams, yogurt, fruits. The owner didn't speak much English but much better than my French! It was enough to get us by. This was quite an experience and highly recommended.

Country manor

We were the only guests and Madame Michelle was the perfect host.  The chateau is beautiful and the furnishings in the rooms and public areas so elegant.  There is no lift but Madame carried our bags herself to our 1st and 2nd floor rooms.  The rooms were big and thoughtfully presented with water, tea and coffee making (with madeleines), full length mirror and spacious bathroom with bath.  Breakfast was served in the downstairs dining room and was a spread ranging from muesli to fresh orange juice, fresh fruit (delicious cherries and strawberries), coffee, tea, croissants and breads.  My only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer than two nights.  I want to go back!
