Beautiful chateau, pretty village, nothing too much trouble for the hosts.Yes, rather creaky floors, but with a building of this age is to be expected. Lovely garden, and interesting history. Lovely dining room - do pre book for evening meal.

Wonderful stay

Completely preserved 12th century chateau, situated in calmness of a middle age village, surrounded by vineyards and mountains. Here, you get the real thing, with dim light of candles, fire place, small windows, wooden floors and fresh mountain air.
Most kind hosts made our stay a truly unique experience!

Inhale middle age

Had expected our 2 night stay to be more enjoyable than it ended up being. The Chateau itself is an interesting enough building. Monsieur was welcoming and helpful, but we got the feeling (like another reviewer) that Madame didn't really want visitors in what is essentially her home.  After we arrived she eventually showed us to our rooms (after initially showing us the "parc", i.e. garden), but when we got back from a walk a bit later our friends told us that they had had to help move all our luggage to another room as Monsieur had apologetically informed them that his wife had put us in the wrong room! 3 of friends were sharing a room and had only been provided with 2 large bath towels between them and had to ask for another. When we later asked if we could borrow some glasses for wine that we had brought with us, the wife was very unhelpful. Breakfast was very disappointing and compared very unfavourably with two other chambres d'hote we stayed in during our whole trip - food seemed to be rationed, including offerings of very small pieces of grilled french bread.  The location was very rural and quiet, which is not necessarily a problem if that is what you want, but the village is solely residential with no shops/eating establishments at all (although a meal can be provided by the Chateau owners we gathered - we didn't avail  ourselves of this and ate one evening at the Larzac Cafe about 15 minute drive away recommended by Monsieur - which offered a sort of french style "american diner" experience but which we enjoyed).

Disappointing stay

Staying two nights in this beautifully restored and decorated castle in the quaint little French village was a real delight. Philip and Isabelle were wonderful hosts and were extremely helpful in advising us the best villages and other sights in the surrounding region to visit. They provided us with outstanding French food and wine--the duck breast cooked on the open fireplace in the dining was cooked to perfection! We highly recommend Le Chateau du Cros.

An exceptional place to stay - a real highlight

This is a recently restored small castle in a tiny village Le Cros. It's a wonderful place to stay with excellent hosts, Phillipe and Isabelle. The decor is exceptionally well done. We stayed in a charming apartment - apparently an old sheepherder's home - right beside the castle. In the castle are 3 suites and 2 rooms. Food is available for guests staying at the castle, but otherwise the nearest services are in the nearby town of Le Caylar. There is lots to do in the area - great hiking (it's a nice 7km walk to the medieval village of La Couvertoirade) and a fun drive to the geological oddity of the Cirque of Navacelles. This is a beautiful area of France and this hotel is a fantastic place to stay.
