Quaint little cottage,very small. Access to rooms isn't easy ((might be a little difficult for someone who not too steady on their feet.

Bedding and room was clean but basic.

The central heating wasn't on, instead we could only heat our room with an electric heater that was provided - visited late October by which time it's cool.

WiFi was extremely poor both in our room and in downstairs room where the owners sitting room is and the breakfast table. Lucky to get one bar.

The owners blamed this on the village infrastructure but when I entered the hotel office, I received full 4 bar service!!

The breakfast consisted of fresh breads, one type of cheese and home made jams, coffee and selection of teas. The proprietor also dished out a heated up crêpe for each of us too.

A big upset at the end of our stay when we came to settle the bill was that I had booked a triple room via booking.com for 3 people - my husband, me and our 7 year old son - the booking was made beginning of September and the price quoted on the booking was 160 euros for the 2 night b&b.

On 21st October, 1 day prior to our arriving, the proprietor emailed me in French indicating the charge would be 210 euros because of us being a party of three.  I didn't see this email as I was already away in France and wouldn't at that point have been able to find alternative accommodation anyway.

So upon settling the bill I was forced to pay 210 euros instead of the booking.com confirmation of 160 euros. When I pointed out the quoted price the proprietor quickly turned very nasty (made no attempt to try and understand my point as he doesn't speak any English) and threatened to call the police - needless to say I was forced to pay 60 euros more than had been quoted which seems very unfair.

Check what you need to be paying before you go

The village is awesome. One of the  "Les plus beaux villages" The guesthouse is nice and comfortable. We lived on second floor, no elevator, because there are no elevators in those houses. Regular size room, good bathroom. Window opens to a view of hills and mountains. Welcoming owners, making sure you are having a good stay. Wonderful breakfast: cheese, breads, pies, crepes, jams and tea and coffee. Owner do not speak English, but if you willing to speak and understand there is no problem. Village do not have cars, so we left our car outside the wall. You need to walk to the entrance and then turn left and walk to the Creperie and guesthouse La Figuera. There are cafes and restaurants in the village, also medieval castle. The only downside was not having any shampoo or conditioner, only soap was available. May be they forgot to put it in, but we stayed only two nights and I did not asked.

For those who wants authentic stay.

The host is a very kind person , he welcomed us warmly and was always ready to help and advise.

The room was a little small but  had nice balcony and the garden is very beautiful.    
Castelnou is a beautiful old village and no cars can pass in its little and narrow  paths. Walking in them is amazing feeling.
So so beautiful.

Like being in paradisy

I had the pleasure of booking this small and quaint hotel for a one night stay recently.  We were not prepared for what we found – in a good way.  The hotel is in a stunning and unique location with a fantastic and relaxed atmosphere to it.  The views are amazing with individual guest rooms offering a superb sense of privacy.  We enjoyed are mini-break there so much, we extended our stay.  The rooms are basic, but large and more than adequate.  The old building fits in nicely with the architecture of Castelnou.  The owners are very laid back and accommodating and serve up good basic food.  I cannot recommend this hotel enough for quality and service for such an affordable price.

A stunnig find in the mountains

Made a last minute reservation as we were cycling. The communication was excellent. The innkeeper was very pleasant and although neither of us were proficient in the others language we did fine. The room was comfortable and the shower steamy. Breakfast was home cooked and delicious. We would recommend. It is a little hard to find.
